There's gotta be a song left to sing
'Cause everybody can't have thought of everything
One little song that ain't been sung
One little rag that ain't been wrung out completely yet
That's got a little left

One little drop of falling rain
One little chance to try again
One little bird that makes it home now and then
One little piece of endless sky
One little taste of cherry pie
One little week in paradise and I start thinking

There's gotta be a song left to sing
'Cause everybody can't have thought of everything
One little note that ain't been used
One little word ain't been abused a thousand times
In a thousand rhymes

One little drop of falling rain
One little chance to try again
One little bird that makes it every now and then
One little piece of endless sky
One little taste of cherry pie
One little week in paradise and I start thinking

Gotta be a song left to sign
'Cause everybody can't have thought of everything
One little song that ain't been sung
One little rag that ain't been wrung out completely yet
'Til there's nothing left

Sweet sweet song. Lovely voice too.
Thought it was Aimee Mann for a minute.

  Same for me. PSD again.

To those of you who think this is "comatose" music, go find a death-rock station.  This is beautiful, simple, and evocative. Sorry if that's not your cup of belladonna.
A beautiful tune, and a nice quiet way to end the day.

I know this is an old comment...  but I'm sure they were just asleep.

Gorgeous.  Her voice and style warms the inside.

Im passing out here Gillian... push the tempo a bit
nope, nothing left to sing.  please stop now.

If this is not the last track on her album, then I cannot possibly imagine how sleep-inducing the rest of it must be. I like quiet music, but this is, as has been adequately said by a poster below, comatose.
Borderline country music.  Comatose country music.  {#Snooty}

Luv it. A simple and beautiful song, a nice change from today's busy, scary world.

Never more true...

This is such a nicely crafted song....I had to read back in the posts to see what peeps were saying.    I'll just say this..   a couple years before Gillian and David had much "fame"..  I saw them in a small room (probably about 120 people) in Dayton, OH.    It was a magic evening.  One of the only times I've seen an audience so captivated by the performance that you could have heard the proverbial pin drop !     It was by chance that I was in the room that night.. but I left it fan for life!

Dissing Gillian? Oh man, did you just blow all your Chrissy Hynde worship goodwill points or what?{#Lol}

no, not her. just this one number. it do drag and depress a soul.
keep your paws offa my points.

I have only previously heard her on the awesome Oh brother soundtrack.  I got Alisson Krauss New Favourite after that album but this is very impressive too.  Might have to look for some albums.
Ugh.  Enough with the lame willowy female sedative vibe.
Lovely, but then again I'm a big fan of Gillian owning 3 of her CDs, all of them gems.

And if you ever get a chance to see her live her partner David Rawlings, do it he is an absolutely amazing guitarist.
Very Nice!!! 8

Fully agree as such it is simply BORING {#Frustrated}
This is a great tune from a great album.  Good for not feeling so alone while staring at a blank computer screen trying to produce something...

With a few changes this could be a decent kids song but as it is its one little annoying ditty.

I heard her recording, Every Thing Is Free, on RP. I bought it that day. That's a great album, Time(The Revelator). Imkirok wrote:

Gillian Welch's voice just does not get old. Ever.

It seems I am hearing a lot of this song on RP... and I don't mind at all. Beautiful
Don't know why, but it really hit me this time. 7->9.

Gillian Welch played a killer set this past Saturday at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, a FREE five-stage musical extravaganza held in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco for the past 6 years. I bet Bill and Rebecca were there! The sound wasn't so great for the first part of the set and a lot of people were talking, but then they launched into China Doll and it just shut everyone up, it was so beautiful. Here's a photo of Gillian, David Rawlings, and Emmylou Harris, who's a regular at this musical event. https://tinyurl.com/em5k2
…WOW I just reviewed your photos on flickr from the festival in San Fran, holly line up! that must have been amazing! Elvis Costello, Steve Earl, Billy Bragg, Guy Clark, Emmy Lou, Gillian and David …was that Harry Manx I saw? …when does this event happen again? …I have to see this! …WOW again! Thank you for the heads up on that one …mind you I'm on the opposite coast and in the country north of yours …but I will get there!
That's pathetic!
How about playing "Look at Miss Ohio" from the same album?
One little razor to slit my wrist.
I love "Make me a Pallet" but this will do nicely.
Can't say much about something that good.

What, you think the whole damn world lives in your time zone?!
Are you saying we should remove all location-specific references in our posts? Why not go further and get rid any opinion-specific posts while we're at it.
I had no idea a quiet guitar and a gorgeous voice could bring out such venom in the commentary. Wow. What's wrong with slowing down for just a moment? Its not like the whole songlist is this way.
I saw Gillian perform at a very small venue almost 10 years ago. This is not my favorite genre of music, but she completely won me over.
Yawn......... ......

Just say NO!
This is very pleasant. I wouldn't mind hearing more from GW. It's like one of the Wailin' Jennies and I'm waiting for the other two to come in.
Barf....

I really like everything she does.

Lovely song from a very talented singer/songwriter.
Could someone get this woman a cup of coffee? Please!

I really think Bill should let Superstition run straight into Big Brother like on the album. One of the best follow-ons I know of.

If you like this, be sure to check out Robyn Hitchcock's latest CD "Spooked" that has Gillian on it.
I gave my love a cherry...
Nice enough, but a bit of a shock to the system after Stevie Wonder.
From time beginning I longed for Emmylou, then Gillian showed up. So long Emmylou - Gillian, I'm, all yours. And yes, if you can ever see her live - do it, she and David put on a great show. BTW, a little local history: David and Gillian met while they were both attending Berkeley School of Music here in Boston.

I know that she went to UC Santa Cruz for undergrad.

Hmm - she's done much stronger songs - this one sounds a little too much like a generic singer-songwriter. Try "I Want to Sing that Rock and Roll" - not bad for a girl from Manhattan!

Very pretty song indeed.
:-s
Couldn't somebody fix the bad XLR cable before pressing the record button? That's a nasty, buzzy ground loop you hear swelling in and out with the vocal compressor.
addicting album

I'm a sucker for songs about songwriting.... At least I think that's what this was about....
I love this woman!
