We said we'd walk together, baby, come what may
That come the twilight should we lose our way
If as we're walking a hand should slip free
I'll wait for you, should I fall behind, wait for me

We swore we'd travel, darling, side by side
We'd help each other stay in stride
But each lover's steps fall so differently
But I'll wait for you, and if I should fall behind, wait for me

Now everyone dreams of love lasting and true
Oh, but you and I know what this world can do
So let's make our steps clear that the other may see
And I'll wait for you, and if I should fall behind, wait for me

Now there's a beautiful river in the valley ahead
There 'neath the oak's bough soon we will be wed
Should we lose each other in the shadow of the evening trees
I'll wait for you, should I fall behind, wait for me

Darling, I'll wait for you, should I fall behind, wait for me
Yeah, I'll wait for you, should I fall behind, wait for me
I'll wait for you, should I fall behind, wait for me

You just ruined a whole "sound" by putting Bruce in this...but then this last set has been surprisingly choppy for RP Bruce Springsteen - If I Should Fall Behind (Live) Koop - Koop Island Blues (w/ Ane Brun) Gomez - Rex Kramer Grateful Dead - Casey Jones The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) The Pogues - I'm a Man You Don't Meet Every Day The Church - Reptile
Lost touch with Bruce after The River. Love his recent, roots, stuff - the Boss, as I remember, and now all growed up. This song from '92? '94? is surprisingly good, never heard it before, thanks Bill.

Wow, you guys are two peas in a pod. Or is that your brains I'm thinking of? Ouch :shifty:

Hey, my first time today.... Go figure.
How can a Springsteen fan not have heard this track before ?
Hadn't heard this one before - a fine, soulful tune and performance (but then I'm a Springsteen fan)

Another open minded quote from you.
Another good of example of a guy that can't sing worth a damn that has made a damn good living as a singer. He is a good song writer however, but with that said I still don't own any of his CD's.My favorite song of his is Santa's coming to Town.Go figure..
There's a reason he's called "The Boss". It might be that his music is awesome.
bruce has been relatively unlistenable since the river...and that freakin' twang he acquired over the past 10+ years is just soooooo annoying
still I don't know why when I think of Bruce I recall "I'm on fire".....

No kidding. This is one of the least grating BS songs though. I give it a solid 3.

He's straining to carry all his money around.

Better wake up - the best music is passing you by.

I was not a fan of Bruce until I saw him solo on the Devils and Dust tour. Wow. I saw Blues Traveler live for the first time last summer too, and I'm still not a fan of BT.

that's probably true - I loved him right up until "Born in the USA" and that live box set but then he started to believe his own publicity and went right off. And I went right off him....
Linda Ronstadt does a gorgeous version of this song on We Ran. I think I actually prefer it to Bruce's.

Me too. I never could appreciate Bruce Springsteen, although I'm sure I'm in the minority.

Always nice to hear good music. Great..

Yes, my sister's wedding too. That was the first time I heard the song. Impressive. I'm glad it is the lineup!

Every now and then a song stops you in your tracks. Beautiful
This was my wedding song and it's just a damned fine, timeless love song. On the E Street Band reunion tour he transformed into a sublime testament to friendship with pared down instrumentation and everyone taking a line or two, coming together in a gospel chorus at the end. Maybe the best Bruce song most people ain't never heard. TJ

For us who stumble upon Americana gems, this rendition is worth our time and admiration. Love the message and interpretation.
What the... ? Bruce sounds like Anthony Newley in this tune. :stop: Not good.

Shame on me for not realizing this was not written by Faith Hill (don't ask). Not that I'm a fan of Bruce though.
I had to go check, too. Yes, Bruce wrote it all right, but I so love it when Faith sings it. Of course Faith can yank my heart right out of my chest when she sings most of her stuff (haven't listened to her latest, though) whereas Bruce just wants to make me yak and change the channel. Which proves, rather conclusively I dare say, that it takes a lot more than just song writing to make a song great. But thanks for the song Bruce. With all the covers that fly around here, I think Faith's rendition would be very well placed here. For some reason, though, I don't think that likely.
This is my upload. The track comes from Springsteen's 1992 MTV Unplugged video concert.
Shame on me for not realizing this was not written by Faith Hill (don't ask). Not that I'm a fan of Bruce though.

I love Bruce, but this Woody-Guthrie-speech-impaired-Bruce really distracts me. It seems like such an affectation that I can't listen to him sing anymore and take him seriously. The original of this is quite wonderful, though.

He's not the boss of me. But this is a good song so far...
