Must've been blind
Guess that's what you'll find
If fate taps on your door

Love rolled in
You shook my world around
Then watched me from the wings
I should have known
But my heart had flown
Now look what trouble brings

A train pulls out of a station
Then rattles on down the line
When I held you close
What I feared the most
Was some fool notion of mine

The sun has gone
This winter's much too long
It steals my breath away

Everythin' dies
Like the promise in your eyes
And waves breakin' on the bay

The moon staggers into the night sky
But it ain't up there to shine
When I held you close
What I feared the most
Was some fool notion of mine

Check out Bakelite Radio, one of Joe Camilleri's projects. I've been listening to Volume IV. It has some funky tunes.
EXCELLENT!   Thanx RP!

Sure is! Very nice vibe.
Chuck's got little more nasal sound and sarcastic feel ....maybe? Just a thought.

Yes, nice voice. Great groove. Thanks RP!

I thought it was Mark too, and it also felt like a Morphine song. I am so happy to have another interesting artist to follow up on and discover. From 1992! :)

Only Bill would delve deep into The Black Sorrows’ back catalogue to find gold. Introducing a whole new generation of Americans to Aussie genius. Well done and happy birthday x
This is a bit of sunshine on a cloudy day.
Lovely lyrics.
Top shelf.
Shweet!

Yeh we really don't get the Dire Straits comparison as they are definitely not on the list of influencers...so thanks

The difference between these guys and Dire Straits is these guys are good. A small but crucial difference to my mind.

I think I saw them (not Dire Straits) play at the Adelaide Festival Centre in 1988.

You’re ever growing better JoeC. 💯
Haven't heard this before and I find it's Jo Jo Zep well cool. Good band live too
Thanks RP for more gloriously unearthed Aussie talent. When Joe first started out he was referred to as “that guy who mumbles his words like Mick Jagger” - adding, “Neither of them will ever make it. Seems that was not the case for either! 8/10.
Very good Musical! This set is marvellous! Thank you

Camilleri is a year older than Knopfler, so maybe it was the other way round !
This came after Extreme Ways by Moby (Bourne end credits for those of you unfamiliar with the track), and I definitely hear background similarities.
Added to a long list of good stuff I've never heard before!

I thought it was Chuck Prophet. Had to look. Nope. Nice sound!

Except that Joe Camilleri was born in 1948!!!! He's older then Knopfler by a year, give or take a few months
Joe Camilleri leads The Black Sorrows. He's kind of an Australian version of Elvis Costello. Several great catchy songs in late 70's, then matured to even better material over the years, supported by some legendary Aussie musicians. Seen him perform dozens of times and he's always great.
Rating fo me down from 8 to 7
Someone listened to a bunch of Knopfler growing up...
Good stuff
Aussies? Damn, now they are beating us at excellent R&B . . .
Just heard this for the first time. The Cale/Knopler comment is spot on. Two of my favorites. (Three if you count both Knopflers).
If J.J. Cale and Mark Knopfler fused into one person, you'd get this.

West LA fadeway?
Blast stopped doing what I am supposed to be doing. Too good.
Thanks Bill for highlighting another great Aussie band.
Love this song.
RP play it at least once a week9200199999977424168791

Very Nice.  Thank You.

Similar to some of my favorites yet has an added something.

I thought this was Peter Mulvey, but it's an Aussie named Joe Camilleri. He's been around for decades, apparently. Amazing similarity in voice and vocal style with Peter Mulvey, I think, at least in this song. Would enjoy hearing more from both artists here at RP.

The Black Sorrows are indeed still around touring Australia and Europe. They released their 17th album Certified Blue which is currently #5 on the national Jazz and Blues chart.  Appreciate the feedback on Fool Notion .

Some people would do the same thing sober it'd be called chutzpah. If I were one of the Black Sorrows, I'd have shaken your hand and tasered your ass.

"And now another feel-good track from the Black Sorrows..."
I haven't thought about this band for years....had a copy of "Hold on to Me" that was done in the late '80's, and Camilleri sounded a bit like Van Morrison back then. I remember it being a really good listen- might have to hunt it down and give it some rotation again.
Nice funky beat with quietly sizzling guitar and vocals restrained just enough to be discreet.
Chuck Prophet was and is an awesome musical force!
These guys made some of the most under-rated music of the late eighties IMO. Good to hear them still doing it and sounding great.

Yes! Chuck Prophet that's it! I was sitting here thinking who the heck does this sound like, or maybe it's actually him - then I saw this post.

This post apparently contained an image that was dragged into the post editor. Sorry, but any text contained in the post after this point has been lost.
An extra rating point just for the line about the moon staggering into the night sky.

I hate when I'm so late hearing a good band.

Knopfler + Isaac + a little Bryan Ferry warble?

Same here. Definitely a Knopfler-esque guitar, very smooth. 6 from the Nottingham jury.

I dunno, I thought this one was pretty cool. If I walked into a party where this was on, I'd stay awhile...

I always enjoy the RP selections from this CD (but don't seem to like the newer CD's as much) But it can't be found! Can't download. Can't find the CD. I guess that makes it an RP exclusive!

I lay in bed and counted the songs after this one so that when I finally got up I could go to the RP playlist and check who it was...The Black Sorrows!!! I was so stoked as I`m an Aussie (as they are ) in Switzerland and didn`t expect it. Having big problems trying to buy this online though...no luck on iTunes or Amazon.
Sounded a bit like Chuck Prophet singing.

One hears what one wants to....just as they see what they want to.... Open your ears. It's no grammy winner, but it definitely has merit, IMHO.

Can't find this'n Sure would be nice if this was actually available -not really in love with their later stuff. Once again RP plucks an obscure gem from the ether

He sounds like the Morphine guy. And hey, for that matter the band doesn't sound completely unlike Morphine.
Isn't this J. J. Cale?
Awesome stuff! Strong 8.
Oh So Good. His voice is wonderful.
gah.. i remember the Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons days from the 70s...what a wonderfully solid aussie musician whose contribution to the music scene out here has been phenomenal....and still touring!! i've never heard this song before.. but like a fine red wine.. he's only become better with age...it's quite lovely ..well done RP for playing such a diverse selection.
Joe Camelliri 2006-10-05 ... this is the best album!

I listened to two of their albums today, they're so cool!
Sounds like a cross between Bob Dylan and Jacob Dylan.
I got a Dire Straits vibe, too. It almost sounded like Knopfler's vocal for a moment. Nicely crafted. I'll have to check this band out.
This band is from Australia and has the chops. Great to hear this song for the first time and really, really, like it! Bill, you're the man!
Beautiful music.
