So close...
You're wasted again
I know, somehow...
I lost myself...again

Making me high again
I almost forgot myself again
It hits me so hard
It kills me again
Today

So close
Yet you're wasted again
I know, somehow...

We'll find ourselves...
I don't know, I don't know

Then we'll be high again
I almost forgot myself there
It hits you so hard
And kills again

I almost forgot myself again
I almost forgot myself there
It's hitting me hard
It moves me again
Again...

I have always like the Doves, but this album is not produced very well. Meaning, there are tracks which follow but which are not complimentary. That makes the album sort of jittery feeling. Plus, as long as I am Monday-morning quarterbacking, whoever remixed the various tracks put in some really crappy synth stuff which is also jarring. OK, if I am so smart why aren't I their producer. Uh, like cause I am someone else's producer? Rock on! Dave

Makes it sound authentic though.  Reminds me a little of the Strawbs.  Weak on production values but mucho likeable all the same.

man I never realized these guys could rock like this...love the vibes of Coldplay, U2, Guster, even Spoon, and so many more that this diamond evokes...

7 ==> 9
Beach Boys done acid-rock style.... hehe Seem to like every Dove song that RP plays.
Anyone else hearing a psychedelic Beach Boys sound?

Can't seem to get that listen-all-the-way-through feeling from their albums, but they have some really good songs on all of them. This one included.
Lost Souls, and Last Broadcast are two favorites in my collection because they flowed nicely the whole way through - I don't find myself skipping songs because they seem out of place, or abrasive. This was my least favorite album, but it's got some nice songs, like this.

Totally!

I like this and will have to look into the band's work further. Toof

What on Earth are you on about? Can't hear any of your associations. Yes there are some similarities, but more differences.
Doves and Coldplay are both good bands. Why does everyone always assume someone is trying to be someone else? How boring. Most bands are influenced by other bands and freely admit that.

WRONG The Doves are about 5-6 years older than Coldplay (early 90's) So I guess that makes Coldplay a Doves cover band. Anyway, their an excellent band and while this CD isn't quite as good as their first two, its still very good.

I still don't know what is it, but I do love the introduction to this song! Drums and bass guitar are so simple! Greetings from Mexico, Marie

Hmm.... I swear that is what I just listened to on Sept. 20th! It is still a fine set, even if it's been heard before.

The Last Broadcast was an outstanding album. I haven't bought this new one yet. Sounds OK, but much more mainstream :(, though.
I don't think it's mainstream, but I probably don't pay enough attention to commercial culture to know what mainstream means anymore. Anyway, I loved LB and have enjoyed this disk almost as much. Though neither quite lives up to their first, Lost Souls, which still astounds me.

Hmm, while I like the Doves and have earlier stuff, my highest rating for any song off this album is 7, which doesn't offer much support for purchase. A sign of diminishing quality, raised expectations, or something in between? Likeable tune.

I disagree. Earlier Doves definately doesn't sound like Coldplay, but this song sounds like Coldplay.
Fair point. They where around before Coldplay so you could argue that they orginated the sound, but as you say they sounded a bit different earlier on in their career.

For those new to Doves, check out the 1st album 'Lost Souls'. Fantastic album. I'm a big Doves fan but they have never quite matched their debut. 'Cedar Room' from that album is a mssterpiece. And they don't sound like Coldplay, Coldplay sound like them :)

Okay. I dig this. Is the rest of the album good as well?
IMHO, yes. It has some quiet, solemn moments as well.

Sans falsetto and keyboards.

All the way. Song writing, vocals, instrumentation. Dang! With a Cake guitar solo.

I love that freakin bell !
a number of songs merged into one? I hear the bassline from a John Mellencamp song (wild nights maybe?), hear some coldplay stuff too...
This is becoming one of my favorite tracks off this album. Still slightly behind Snowdon for me though.
great bridge.....

It does sound remarkably like Coldplay, but the vocalist has a slightly deeper, fuller voice... I still like it though. 8.
Sounds at times like the Chili Peppers
very interesting... at points i love this, at other points i dont think it's too special. overall positive though.
i thought it was coldplay!
I need to order this CD (comes out March 1st)....along with some othe killer CDs that came out recently : Porcupine Tree, Black Keys, Gomez, Tori Amos.
