Appalling crap. Make U2 sound good.
Kingdom of Rust has their best stuff.
Sounds like a group of boring white boys, with no redeeming qualities.
Insert "tedious yawn emoticon" here.
This one crept in under the radar...
I can't pinpoint anything specific about it that I like, but I *love* it, and I can't explain why {#Stupid}
Genius
Seven keys on the piano doth not a great hit make... they should name this song Redundant III.
nice segway from dandy's, bill
Revives an 80s-type sound I'm not usually fond of, but here I like it!
good driving music.....easy on the curves..... :motor:
"It's like a heat wave..." Cheap shot. I actually like the Doves a lot, but this is not one of their better tunes, or better albums. The first two are great though.
Awesome segue as said already.
What a ....... great segue from the Dandys!
hmm, could have sworn it was a coldplay song

A bit? Boring as hell, and judging by the majority of comments on this page comparing them to other groups, not very original either. A big ho hum.
Ho hum is too generous...
Interesting references to Heat Wave and Do You Believe in Magic? John Sebastion said that he really liked the rising chord structure in Heat Wave and played around with it, eventually speeding it up - Do You Believe in Magic was the result.

perhaps, but the beat is 100% motown: (click here)
I agree-everytime Bill plays this, during the first few chords I think it's an old motown hit and try to place it. I usually think it's heatwave.
The Dandies then the Doves! Woo hoo!
the Doves ROCK!!!!!!!

Sounds kind of Joe Jackson too. But you all are correct. 95% Tears for Fears.

Heard this song a few times recently as background music on British TV, was wondering who it was - thanks for clearing it up
Sounds kind of Joe Jackson too. But you all are correct. 95% Tears for Fears.

After hearing this song again, I would say that this song sounds like latter day Tears for Fears trying to cover Phil Collins version of Heatwave. :headache:
I think you nailed it. :headache: :headache:
Holy! This sounds like Tears for Fears...Wow... :ask:

hmmm...after the first few chords I expected to hear them break out into "Do You Believe in Magic." Does there come a time when your pop encyclopedia becomes so full that every song reminds you of another one?

How about Joe Jackson?
A lot like Tears for Fears...
Probably one of the best songs on this album, but I hope that we can play other tracks by Doves--the other albums are superior. I can never have enough of Doves.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Actually, the lead singer sounds like a refugee from Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that's OK... I like RHCP!
Are we listening to the same song?
I use to live in a black and white town gotta get out, gotta get out...

Not as immediate as their last album, but it does grow after a few listens.
My travel band. For some reason, they're great to listen to on those long international flights. Looks like I need to pick up this album, too. Excellent tune.
I agree with E-String, its got my foot tapping so thats a plus
a bit monotonous
There's a The The song out there (maybe "This is the Day"), that uses this same 3 chord piano progression. That's what I thought it was. I still like it though. Its bouncy. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Why not just completely rip "Heatwave" off? Is this the latest "new" band to do watered down tributes songs that didn't need covering to begin with? (See Franz Ferdinand and Interpol pretending to be Joy Division, etc. ) Is this a British thing? Surely there are some artists out there that can offer us something new???
My foot sure likes this song. It's got my heal tapping. \:D/

but I think they've already been played three times today. :( a little too much of the Doves for me, anyway.
Almost reminds me of the Buckinghams...
Agree on all counts -- the Tears for Fears sound, the "Heatwave" groove, and most of all, this is a great recording! :music:

Motown anyone? "...or is this the way it's supposed to be...like a heatwave...burnin' in my heart..." That's what I hear, anyway.

Very, very good disc. Can't say it's my favorite of their 3, but its right up there.
Doves are one of those bands that needs to get more airplay. Thanks again RP for being one of the only ones.

Oh no you didn't say that. I've heard the other songs from the album. Dare I say it will possibly be my favorite album of the year. Honestly, the latest Doves release is the best thing to come from the UK since The Bends and OK Computer.
This reminds me of a 70's Coca-Cola commercial.
this is good....very good. Grows on you all infectiously and what-not.
Doves are starting to sound like Tears for Fears all of a sudden...
