Well, it's a lonely road that you have chosen
Morning comes, and you don't want to know me anymore
And it's a long time since your heart was frozen
Morning comes, and you don't want to know me anymore

For a moment your eyes open and you know
All the things I ever wanted you to know
I don't know you and I don't want to
Till the moment your eyes open and you know

That it's a lonely place that you have run to
Morning comes, and you don't want to know me anymore
And it's a lonely end that you will come to
Morning comes, and you don't want to know me anymore

For a moment your eyes open and you know
All the things I ever wanted you to know
I don't know you and I don't want to
Till the moment your eyes open and you know

For a moment your eyes open and you know
All the things I ever wanted you to know
I don't know you and I don't want you

Love pieces with moving bass lines. This is quite nice.
love this band and this album is just rolling gold
Best songs:
1. Nothing in my way.
2. Crystal ball.
3. Is it any wonder.
4. Silenced by the night.

When I was a pro musician I bought one of the first CP70B pianos, because it was the only way to get a realistic piano sound live (unless you had a big touring crew).  However, the sound isn't beautiful and bell-like, but thin and toppy, and I've never understood why Keane ruined their recorded sound by using it in the studio.  I'm delighted now to play a Nord Stage with Fazioli and Bosendorfer samples which is superior in every way (and doesn't take two people to lift into a flight case).

No wonder you are no longer a pro musician - you are insufferable from all I have read of your comments.

I'm still enamored with their overt use of the Yamaha CP70, my favorite musical instrument of all time.  It was everywhere in the '80s and some bands still use it on almost every record (U2, for example), but it has come back in vogue partly because of Keane.  Almost all of the piano tracks on this album are CP70, also known as the Yamaha electric grand.  It has a beautiful bell-like quality that is unlike anything else.  I scored one in excellent condition many years back when they were being dumped by many musicians and studios.

I don't get the comparisons to U2.
Keane (good band, BTW) has hardly any guitar.
Brilliant band in their own right, to me they sound nothing like U2.
Reminds me my first rainy night in UK, after leaving Heatrow towards south...
Underrrrrated by miles: Keane.

Their song "Is It Any Wonder?" is quite good and very reminiscent of U2.
Amazing band.  Saw them in Chicago a few years back.  Love every song they've ever recorded.  Great pic.  Play them more!!

Funny, I was thinking Bono finally lost his voice!
Love this first album of theirs and I've seen them live recently here in Bristol.  Good effort there, too.  Later albums got progressively worse, though, with a few quality numbers.

Yes, very pop...but my GOD his voice is something unreal!
Not such a bad band but this song is compltely empty from feeling and meaning

It wouldn't been the first time I had thought more of people I saw on Jools' show than when I check out their catalogue.  Jools seems to have a way of getting amazing performances out of people on that show

Not up to RP standard. Sucko Barfo for me !

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

But it doesn't rate "bubble gum" to me.  Liking it, it made me look up from my work.

Maybe, but where else would you hear it save for RP?

Hard to believe it's only piano, bass and drums in this song...excellent!
You are right Sjaac. I saw them a couple of years ago at Rock Werchter in Belgium and was blown away by their magnificent performance. while I didn't expect much of it. Ever since I love this band. The second album is also great!

Smoooooth.  I kinda like it.
Didn't know there were so many music snobs on here.  Every song I click on to see the comments everyone is saying how horrible it is...But, what did I expect? hahaha  just as long as there are no commercials I'm not going to start complaining about the songs! {#Bounce}

What happens at the Keane concert stays at the Keane concert.

Perhaps they should get one of Oasis's cast off drummers?  I rate the singer's voice, but don't have any of their stuff on the shelf. Bit too poppy for me. 6 anyway

This would be an 8 but for the cheap fake drum track, which costs it a point.

I hear it, too, and am at a loss why they would do that — Richard Hughes is actually a very decent drummer.  I also agree with Hooey that Tim Rice-Oxley is an excellent keyboard player.

Jup, its light catchy pop, aimed straight for the girly segment.
Yet I find his voice so annoyingly good that i keep turning up the volume every time it plays.

The reason the percussion is understated is because it is done by a Macintosh, not a musician. Nice pop, pretty vocals, but totally left me cold in concert. My wife loved it. Admittedly, it could have been the crowd of squealing 14 year old girls that turned me off. No, it was the computerized percussion.

I'm not a huge fan of this group but I'm thoroughly impressed by their keyboard player. I saw them live on SNL and he carried the whole arrangement himself apart from the drums, including the bass. Very solid player.

Maybe it's that they are such an anti-climax after the beautiful sequence of Massive attack and Imogen Heap, but I had to drop this to a 1.

Wonderful song!!!

It must be a case of an artist not being appreciated in their homeland. I agree, they produce some happy pop music, but it's enjoyable all the same!

Don't hold back. Tell us, please, how you really feel...it's important.
Please, god, no.
I really like the singer's voice, very interesting.... I prefere this first record to the latest, even because I expected something mature from them but maybe airplay needed a fist of pop song.... they will grow up I presume

Thanks for playing this. This album has really grown on me, mostly because of the lead singer's voice.

I was thinking a happier and less interesting version of Radiohead, but at least it's not Massive Attack or Imogen Heap.

Saw these guys play in KC last year. Inspite of the shimmering white belt of lead Keane, they put on a fantastic performance. Looking forward to their next record.
The more I hear of this band, the more I like them. This album is on my Must Get list.

The song opens with that familiar piano line-- COOL! It's Ray Charles! Wait a minute-- It's only Keane A pox on those who rip samples from their betters! ... Okay, maybe "a pox" is overkill. How about just a bad case of psoriasis.
So THAT'S what it is! I knew it had me expecting an R&B track, and couldn't quite put my finger on it. Still like it, although the revelation about prerecorded bass at their live shows is somewhat disturbing...guess they don't do a lot of improvisational jamming...
a damn good CD for driving, even though it's a bit on the "Pop" side for my usualy taste

This song makes me want to run through fields of wildflowers in the Spring.

What a wonderful melody! That's very good pop music to my ears. :D
VERY good stuff!
BTW, this CD makes great travelling music.
Not bad. They say this band is supposed to be "Coldplay without a guitar" - perhaps. But it's still better than X&Y. What trash. My favorite band of this flavor from the UK is Doves.

Good point. Bad choice of words on my part. I should have said that it reminds me of so many stories in my life, and every one of them about a woman.

saw them in London at the Wireless festival-- their 1st huge headlining gig, and a week before they played the same space at Live 8. They were really really good-- I had gone to see Supergrass, but Keane had the energy, sounded great, and were thrilled to be there. They blew them away.
my first keane song that makes it to 4... 8O

Thanks..... yeah, I noticed this after seeing them at Coachella. Doesn't leave a lot of room for mistakes. They sounded amazing..... basically saved the day for me after Snow Patrol and the Kills.

Trivia - They used to have a guitarist but when he left they decided not to get another one.

I liked it before, and I like it even more now. Hold on, that's at least the second time tonight I've said that about a song. I must be in some kind of f-ing good mood! Now would be a good time to ask me for money, I guess...
What strikes me about this band IS his voice. Sounds as good as any male vocalis I've heard. Sounds great to me, almost as good as the singers in Procol Harum or the Strawbs. Rich, Clear and Distinct.
So the early 80s are, like, back, dude. Awesome.

Well, maybe if you try listening to it again? Sometimes, after you've listened to something two and a half times, you become musically redisoriented.

What a great CD! I enjoy it more and more each time I listen to it.
Peach-y Keane!
Pleasant surprise! Love this album, and this is my favorite song on the album. RP to the rescue... once again!
Nice opening to the song. Perked me up after the dismal bore that overcame me from the song "My Mermaid" by tricky that came before it. The more I listen to this Keane song, the more I like it.
