I pick up my smile, put it in my pocket
Hold it for a while, try not to have to drop it
Men are not to cry, so how am I to stop it?
Keep it all inside, don't show how much she rocked ya

Ooh, can you feel the same?
Ooh, you gotta love the pain
Ooh, it looks like rain again
Ooh, I feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
The mountains win again

Dreams we dreamed at night were never meant to come to life
I can't understand the ease she pulled away her hand
This time in my life I was hurt enough to care
I guess from now on I'll be careful what I share

Ooh, can you feel the same?
Ooh, you gotta love the pain
Yeah, it looks like rain again
Yeah, I feel it comin' in
The mountains win again

A pocket is no place for a smile anyway
Someday I will find love again will blow my mind
Maybe it will be that love that got away from me
Is there a line to write that could make you cry tonight?
Can you feel the same?
Yeah, ya gotta love the pain
Ooh, it looks like rain again
Ooh, feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
Ooh, the mountains win again
Win again
The mountains win again

I like how every once in a while a random popular 90s song hits the playlist.
Is there such a thing as noodling on a harmonica?
Excelente! mucho tiempo sin escuchar Blues Traveler
The mountains may have won again, but the rest of us are collective losers for having to sit through this.

I had this on cassette! miss you so much, Cynaera...

everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches be dancing buck ass naked all over the world like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners...  love this song...  love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...
Head for the hills!
Well done all around, nice vocal work.

Popper, right? Chromatic harp.

The mix of his voice, the instruments, and the lyrics make this band one of my favorites.  Wish they made more music.  I love their version of the blues!

Everybody and their mother plays the blues guitar, but not everybody and their mother plays
the blues guitar like that .. wonderful blues & great memories.

I was at the Madison '97 Stones show and Blues Traveler was very good.

That would shock most anyone..and stick with them. Poor girl.

I would like to thank Anheuser Busch for forever ruining this song for me.  I hear this song now and a voice in the back of my head exclaims "Buschhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Man I love this tune!!!  So many mood changes.
For some reason......I feel like having a beverage. {#Stupid}
I haven't heard this song in such a long time. One of my favorite blues.

Oh - that's what made me look. Is there any Mule played or is it too hard? Solo Warren could fit. FWIW - I happen to like Blues Traveler, Popper & harmonica in general.
What is this? Skid Row?
This is a change of pace for these guys. Very good song.

Guess it's not very effective advertising, b/c this tune is used in Busch beer commercials, not Coors.

Someone hit a nerve, eh? How about getting some data before you slander a group like the RP listenership? I'll bet that a lot of them are highly accomplished people. The ones that I know are for sure. And many of the comments are thoughtful and articulate.

You go, Freddyfender!
Izzat David Lindley on slide? *edit* should have backscrolled...Warren Haynes? Hmmmm. Don't think so. Was it Chan Kinchla, their regular guitarist?

The harp is the same. Listen to Sonny Boy Williamson for instance to demonstrate the truth of that.

Donovan - There is a Mountain then this https://www.radioparadise.com/content.php?name=Music&func=search&type=title&search=mountain sad to see there's no chance Jane's Addiction - Mountain Song would be up next :(

Worst harmonica solo ever. But then that's true of every Blues Traveler song. Someone please take the chromatic harmonica away from him... and beat him with it.
ruined by the harmonica. aural torture.
Boy, I never really do this but, MAN does this sound like a Van Morrison song...Northern Muse. The first couple bars, anyway, not the rest of it. It was an odd feeling to hear this song start and sound soo familiar, but just not quite right. When I saw that it was Blues Traveler I wasn't at all surprised. John Popper has said in interviews that he is a big VM fan (as any intelligent person would be). If Van was his 'muse' for this piece I'd say he did a nice job with it.
First there was a mountain, and then there wasn't (Donovan) Then, of course, the mountains win again. Nice set.

The thing I've never liked about Blues Traveler is that their harmonica player is badly afflicted by the "too many notes" syndrome. I have to give this song a little credit, because it's the one time I've heard him play with a wee bit of discretion, instead of trying to cram every tone his instrument will play into the space of one beat.

Nice. I haven't heard this in years. What the hell happened to these guys? One too many horde fests I think.
Horde Fest rocked! I went to the 94' show at Polaris Point in Columbus..Talk about a hell of a show. Blues Traveller, Big Head Todd, Allman Brothers, Sheryl CRow(narf..),early DMB, Black Crowes(rocked the mofo), and Cypress Hill..When I got there the Black Crowes were jammin Low Rider - sign of great things to come
I really dig this song, sure it's kinda sappy but thats the point. Take it for what it is.

How to describe the harmonica... A bad acid trip causes a seizure, yet he continues to play.

For those of you that don't know..the reason why the guitar is so fantastic in this song (the slide) is because the man himself....Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule) does the solo. He is without a doubt one of the greatest living guitar players. THE slide player extraordinaire...even if you don't like John Popper or the harmonica, just LISTEN to the guitar and you'll FEEL the song!! Trust me.....
Thanks ...that helps appreciate this song a bit more because I do not like BT or the harmonica work.
But it's a commercial!!! What's next the Charmin theme song? LOL!!!
my wifes shirt: if you like my moutains, you'll love my bush. haha!
Fantastic Guitar work. Good song, and I don't like like BT. This one kicks.
i like the fact that there are as many negative comments as positive.... i like the variation i hear on rp
In recent years, no song has snagged more quarters from me in a jukebox than this one...just plain great to play pool and drink a beer to. 8) btw, BillG, are the "Mountians" in the title from the planet Mount? If not, there's a typo. ;)

I don\'t ever recall harmonica ever being this annoying.

the bass line on this song sounds like the bass line from Smashing Pumpkins\' \'Glynis\'.......bah
Considering how much I really, really like this song, it is amazing that I like nothing else this band ever did. But this song, I love -go figure.
