I think it's meant to be distorted - I've never heard a clearer version of the song.

Yes, it's much simpler than Newman's 3 or 4 chords.
if needed a friend I'm here to listen if you like

I saw this film on the first date in my life, at age 21. She became my first kiss. Some months later I found myself wishing the memory-erasing technology from the film was real. Funny how that goes. I still wish some days.
Breaks my heart into a thousand pieces.

    How lovely !!  {#Daisy}
Everybody in my alien space craft loves this song...  we can't speak for the potty mind...

It make me cry, now, in the midlle of the mess of my life...
Jon Brion, where do you hide?
"In the shadows of Aimee, and Nina Gordon...."
Ah, here you are!
Qué MUSICÓN estáis poniendo!
Congratulations from Spain, and Thank's!

Thanks so much for playing this. It's one of my favourite movies and listening to this takes me to a good place. I can just see the windswept beach in my mind right now.
Wow! Never heard this outside the movie. Thanks for slamming me back into the movie at 6:12 in the morning. This is going to stay with me all day.

Sorry, sweetheart, I've had several before you ...
Man, Bill  Rebecca's selections on RP are perfect for me today after a late night of showing the world what an asshole I really am.. sigh.

Right about that!

I noticed that this is simply called 'Theme' on my version of the CD. Must be why the links to Amazon/iTunes here aren't working.

Great song, thought I'd add that in case anyone goes looking for a version.
Loving that simple, elegant bass line

The movie is great.
The movie was PSYCHOTIC.

Not sure if it's intentional, but I dig the out-of-this-world set list so far: Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite
Cat Power - The Moon
Jon Redfern - I Love The Sun
John Brion - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Satellites, moons, and suns!

I absolutely agree.  Perfectly fits my mood.

The movie is great.

The movie was PSYCHOTIC.

excellent movie
Blech...give me something else.
Just beautifully suited to the movie - I can hear Jim and Kate's wistful voice-over...
9 + wow
This is really nice. I didn't recognise that it's from one of my all-time favorite movies. Need to watch that again soon. Such a good movie!
This is EASILY one of the best films of the decade. Sheer heart-acheing brilliance!!!

Oh, well played Sir!
Jon Brion is one of the most talented musicians around. If you ever have the chance to see his live show, check him out! It's like watching a death defying trapeze artist perform without a net. He brings no set list and every performance is unique (search for some of his performances on youtube to get an idea of what it's like). I used to see him perform often at Largo in Los Angeles and have some of my best music memories there!

I think I'm too left-brain for it. I can respect Gondry's craft (and I've enjoyed some of his other stuff), but I think I just didn't get ESotSM.
Great movie!
best theme music ever
Outstanding! I was a virgin too!
This song is ok, but... I really love his solo album. He also played most every instrument on Aimee Mann's first 3 or 4 solo discs (they once dated I think), I first heard of him in The Grays, and he's produced lots of stuff too. Also a must see when in Hollywierd, at Largo any Friday night.
The movie this song belongs to is a must see.
