Ok, but what about this song FLIM?

LOVE this song... but that album art CREEPS ME OUT!
Reminds me of sunrise on the Playa, waking up in the Dust.
There is no other DJ in Paradise that could meld this with "Dont hurry love " by the Supremes. You're the Best RP!

I like the frantic, "live" drums on the version by The Bad Plus.  But yes, their version is about six years after this one.
Why is this running at 2x normal speed?
Creepy album cover.  Has it really be 10 years since last played?

I say that all the time. The sad part is when I'm in my sixties I'll be saying "I wish I knew in my forties what I know now ..."

One of my favorite Aphex Twin songs.
The Bad Plus version is way better, this is decent though.

A 9 for the cover... the music's good too

Today, Bill is playing the same as those days... wonderful list. Aphex Twin is absolutely great. :bounce:
That's better!

I didn't enjoy this until the drumming stopped. To me, the drums are to provide propulsion and punctuation. To my ears, they are too busy.

I heart Richard D James. Ohman, he is a sick, twisted Genious.
This song is just beautiful. It does everything right for me, great drum programming, lovely piano, and just a wonderful sense of space and freedom. To all the album art haters, yes its creepy but its the music that matters, dont let ratings suffer for this. And thanks to Bill, I have discovered The Bad Plus doing a cover of this song. Really a fantastic acoustic interpretation of a purely electronic song.

And vice-versa. You don't have to appreciate it, but equating it to the work of a child is insulting to both the artist and the child. Personally, I find most of Aphex Twin's material alienating and disassociative. The mood is generally a lot more...creepy. This song, however, brightens my day. Have a little security in your personal aesthetic and you won't find the need to resort to grade-school derisive tactics.
Well said!
 Nice track, creepy cover art! :eyes:

Yeah - - what he said
Well put, Narty! I like this composition, and love the cover version by Bad Plus. I do like the darker, harsher stuff that Aphex Twin does, as well, though - and the cover art for this album is very cool in a disturbing kinda way.
that is the scariest album cover i have ever seen.

I agree, this is one of the few examples where the version surpass the original. It is still very cool though.

The backbeat seems way out of kilter with the instrumentals, and keeps bringing me up short just when I think I'm getting into the groove of this. Unsettling, but not in a good way.

Wow - this guy has range... given the diminutive sound of this track, one might never guess that the same guy would be capable of such demonic sound and imagery - "Come to Daddy" is seriously disturbing.
Can anyone else hear shades of Gene Wilder's "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka in the twinkling melody of this song?

I know I'm preachin' to the choir, but the fact that I can hear both Van Morrison and Aphex Twin within playing together within the same half hour is the reason RP is the best thing I've found on the entire internet. Ever. Period.
Shoulda put this one directly after the Radiohead. Twoulda been a seamless blend.

Disturbing indeed. This is the first time I've heard the original version, and it's cool. But the remake by The Bad Plus on non-synthesized instruments blows this version away.

Album so, so. Song is great though. More Apex Twin. PS. - Big influence on Trent Reznor too...
If you like this, The Bad Plus' version is amazing. (click here) :drummer:
Nice.
Very nice indeed
Wow - this is probably the only thing from The Aphex Twin on here. (just checked - yup.) A nice piece.

You might have heard it as a legitimate tune: The Bad Plus, a jazz trio out of Milwaukee (I think?) does a killer version of it. (In their version the drums are live!!! not programmed - pretty amazing) RP has The Bad Plus' version in rotation as well, I think....
Yes, both versions are played here.

Pullman? Do you go to WSU or live there? (My college roommate was from Pullman.) More importantly, have you heard the "Pullman anthem" "Cruisin' Down Stadium Way"?
hm, somthing about part of this reminds me of a melody from charlie & the chocolate factory. in a good, mysterious, creepy way.

Oh yeah.
My kinda music. Chill, but with a wicked drum break.
Cool. And the Bad Plus version is maybe even more cool.
Ah.
Oh MAN, this is delicious. The tune, the beat selection, the sounds... I love that the general pace of the song is slower and mellow, while the drums kick around with a bit of a faster flavor. This rocks my socks off.

Yeah, I keep waiting for Thom to break into that synthesized voice on "Kid A" with these drum beats. Decent stuff.
