I wanna sit and talk and laugh with you as the day ends
I wanna see your smiling face before the new day begins
You'll never know what it means
To see the sunlight in your hair and dancing everywhere

I wanna shout about it
But I keep quiet about it
I wanna laugh about it
But I don't joke about it
I wanna live without it
But I can't do without it

I'm someone's daughter
Are you somebody's son?
Can I ease your pain till the morning comes
I'm no one's daughter
I belong to the sun
Gonna ease your mind till the morning comes

Keep looking for the reason
High and low to let it go
Keep losing my mind
Looking for the peace that I just don't find
I wanna know how it feels
To be the sunlight in your hair and dancing everywhere

I wanna shout about it
But I keep quiet about it
I wanna laugh about it
But I don't joke about it
I wanna live without it
But I can't do without it

I'm someone's daughter
Are you somebody's son?
Can I ease your pain till the morning comes
I'm no one's daughter
I belong to the sun
Gonna ease your mind 'til the morning comes

Well, she's British, so I don't know if she shops in either of those stores.  I seriously doubt that the members of Pink Floyd ever visited anyone on the dark side of the moon either.

Bit odd altogether.  We don't have trailer parks, but she might have popped into one of yours on her travels.

Don't you lot have caravan parks? Basically the same thing, right?

Never seen the show, but all I can think is that poor guy in the middle having to wear those headache inducing glasses for hours!

I didn't read most other comments about what they may have heard. Maybe someone else caught it.
Does this resemble a Joe Strummer song, All in a Day (or another one of his / the Mescaleros) ? Because I think it does.  A lot. Fix my ears if I'm wrong.
Kinda reminds me Natalie Merchant, they definitely have some sort of vibe in common.
More Beth Orton please! While always a background kinda fan, Beth Orton's work has never seemed more relevant than... right now. I think that's called, like, enduring art or something. I dunno. I'm just a music fan; not an academic.
How cool to have this playing in my head and when I fire up Radioparadise there it is!

If she's driven through any parts of rural or suburban America - between larger cities -  she would likely have at least seen some trailer parks.

Maybe not in person, but some of those drugs out there will take you all kinds of places...

I like Beth's style and voice. Gimme something new Beth!
Interesting, busy little ditty. It's like a colony of sounds at work. I like it.

No question a bit ragged in spots, but what a lovely tune. 8 in my book.

Mmmmm nice

Quite a feat when you think of it. Beer cans haven't been made of anything but rust proof aluminum for several decades.

Authenticity is for people, not song and album titles. I love to drive around the suburbs listening to Beth. And we definitely pass by trailer parks.

{#Tongue-out}
This is good for the ears.  I heard that line somewhere, can't recall where.  LOL.

Nah, that is where I met her . . .

Very nice, brings her own beer.

Heh!  She mine, ya hear!  We be Living in my Single-Wide out behind the Cracker Barrel in Smyrna, Tennessee.   When she can't sing so good no more we can still cook up a batch of Crank.

Wow, cool. Never heard this track before. Here in LA—Beck played with her (I think they did a tongue in cheek duet from Grease of all things). So it was great to hear something from her.

Dear Santa,

I only want one thing for Christmas, and that thing is for Beth Orton to learn the appropriate use of the letter "H" in her vocal diction.

Thank you,
Agnes

really like beth, thanks for playing her bill.  are those jack purcells shes wearing?
Can't sing?!  Can't stand her voice?!  OMG, I LOVE her voice.  I want to have her babies!  ....erm, oh, wait, nevermind, I'm a guy, so I got that all backwards.  But you know what I mean!!1!!1  (/giddy squealing off)

And hey, I like Bob Dylan a lot too, so clearly I'm flexible about the voice thing, though I really do like her voice.

I Think She's A christian.
A great pop song from a very un-diva like performer. Solid 10.{#Wave}
Can anyone else hear the lazy?
WOW this is really good! I have not really listen to Beth before. I like!
LOL Not too many Beth-Lovers here, but I can understand them. Best thing to say is that she's just boring.
I honestly think she cannot sing
Beth is cool, saw her in Minneapolis for like $2.00 the year this cd came out. What was it, 95? 96? Was in town for OSU-Minn football and Primus at First Ave, but my buddy failed to pick up Primus tix ahead of time. The line for Primus stretched around the block. We wandered down the street, and found Beth at a club. After that, we had rusty cans of Bud at the Saluki Bar. Outstanding!
I'm so glad we can change our song ratings here on RP 3? What was I thinking? :arrowd: 1

Hurrah, Beth Orton! :)
Wow..lots of love and hate for Beth out there. I am in love camp. Hey JRS... how's it going, I know you're happy with this song.
Can. Not. Stand. Her. Voice. (That's me being kind.) 2, for now. Maybe dropped to 1 later.
me parece una voz muy agradable y buenos arreglos musicales.
This is what she looked like last October. I'd say don't hold your breath waiting on her next album. Now she's not only someones daughter, she's got her own.

Yes

It would be a boring song by any other artist. Beth makes it magical!
I give this an 8, even though my little Beth refuses to answer my calls and has taken out a restraining order on me.

or, Jem sounds like Beth, considering Beth came first... Not saying one's better, just making sure we're in order...

I am hearing Gorillaz in there. Off the top of my head I think it is Re-Hash, the first song on the self titled album.

Initially I thought this might be a cover of that. Now I kind of wish it had been. Don't like Beth Orton.
Voice reminds me of Jem.

Well, how about "Souljacker pt.II" by Eels? The intro is a little too similar to that song's chorus, to be a coincident...
...thanks ms. Orton... S.
I can't get enough Brth Orton!! I saw her at Milestones in NY and she was just great! Just like the CD.
Wow, that's got a nice, natural swing! Love the funky guitar sound and that fat, groovy bass. Her voice is cool too.

Oh man, I loved this song! I had to give up this album to an ex-girlfriend and I haven't heard it in ages. I wonder what Sue is up to these days.
