Why no one will help me I'm too dumb I'm too smart
They'll not understand me I'm lonely they'll hate me

There is not enough time It's too hard to help me
God wants me to work no resting no lazy

These excuses how they've served me so well
They've kept me safe they've kept me stuck
They've kept me locked in my own cell

I'm too far from home it takes far too much energy
I cannot afford to, no one will ever see me

These excuses how they've served me so well
They've kept me safe they've kept me stuck
They've kept me locked in my own cell
These excuses how they're so familiar
They've kept me blocked they've kept me small
They've kept me safe inside my shell

Bringing these into the light shakes their foundation and clears my sight
Now my imagination is the only thing that limits the bar and its' rise to the heights

No one can have it all see I have to, they want me to
I can't let them down I will never be happy

These excuses how they've served me so well
They've kept me safe they've kept me stuck
They've kept me locked in my own cell
These excuses how they're so familiar
They've kept me blocked they've kept me small
They've kept me safe inside my shell

Is she too close to home for all you cynics? Her lyrics reach deep inside and ask you to do the same. Not up to it, huh? Not many are!!!!
actually, i find most of her lyrics trite and insipid. and confused. not one example she posits in her song "ironic" actually fits the deifinition of the word

I must say I agree. That anger gave her the sort of spirit and sharpness which her more recent work seems to lack more or less. It's good for herself she could get things more in perspective, but not for her music. Somebody this talented will surely find another way.

Now I like Alan-is Mor-is-sette as much as the next guy,
And here I thought she was a woman :)

I caught her performance on Sound Stage and I have to give her credit for her live act. The CD is another matter. Almost made me puke. Production is just awful (and she produced it). Too bad, some of the songs are decent.

It just fell to a '1'. Irritating...
Eh... just more so-called music from Alanis Morissette... --d

Hate the unnatural way she breaks her words up. You don't say 'excuSEZ' you say 'exCUses'. You don't say 'fam-ill-YER' you say 'fam-ILL-yer'. Just lazy songwriting.
Not everyone went to the Frank Sinatra School of Pop Phrasing.
Oh, good! A-bland-is Morbid-sette. It's a 2...

Heh, you should listen to Matson Belle. Bill's played a few of their tunes here. All of these folks went to the same writing class. Not.

Worse than lazy, in my book--and a good point on your part. It's like the kind of forced meter and forced rhyme that 9-year-olds do when forced to write poetry. I'd call it amateurish, but I'm not quite sure it measures up even to that.
Yes, both of u--But AM enjoys being irritating. #-o It's a specialty of hers.

Hmph. Lazy LISTENING, IMHO. I like this. I've always liked her distinctive voice and unusual choices in phrasing. That's what an artist does...

No more...excuses.....
"these precious illusions in my head did not let me down when I was defenseless and parting with them is like parting with invisible best friends" -Alanis Morissette, "Precious Illusions", UNDER RUG SWEPT "These excuses how they served me so well They've kept me safe They've kept me stoic They've kept me locked in my own cell ... These excuses how they're so familiar They've kept me small They've kept me blocked They've kept me safe inside my shell" - Alanis Morissette, Excuses, SO CALLED CHAOS They sound awfully similar to me.
I dig it. Strong chorus.
I liked her much better when she was pissed off. :nodhead:
