14 years 30 minutes 15 seconds I've held this grudge
11 songs 4 full journals, thoughts of punishment I've expended

not in contact not a letter such communication telepathic
you've been vilified, used as fodder, you deserve a piece of every record

but who's it hurting now?
Who's the one that's stuck?
Who's it torturing now, with an antique knot in her stomach

I want to be big and let go of this grudge that's grown old
All this time i've not known how to rest this bygone
I want to be soft and resolved clean of slate and released
I want to forgive for the both of us

Like an abandoned house dusty-covered furniture still intact
If I visit it now, do I simply re-live it somehow gratuitous

But who's still aching now?
Who's tired of her own voice?
Who's it weighing down with no gift from time of said healing

I want to be big and let go of this grudge that's grown old
All this time i've not known how to rest this bygone
I want to be soft and resolved clean of slate and released
I want to forgive for the both of us

Maybe as i cut the cord veils will lift from my eyes
Maybe as i lay this to rest dead weight off my shoulders will rise

Here i sit, much determined ever ill-equipped to draw this curtain
How this has entertained, validated and has served me greatly ever the victim

But who's done whining now?
Who's ready to put down
This load I've carried longer than I had cared to remember

I want to be big and let go of this grudge that's grown old
For the life of me I've not known how to rest this bygone
I want to be soft and resolved clean of slate and released

I deeply dislike this song. Who's singing?

BTW Where does Brittany come in this? Why do you assume anyone NOT liking Alanis must like Brittany. Typical strawman (straw-woman ?) argument. All bluster & no substance.
My point is what it's always been when faced with the bullshit that women who put out REAL music must deal with: if we can't tolerate a woman in rock who produces a sound outside the box what we end up with is Brittany and her clones. Why? Because everyone thinks she's great? No- it's because her sales are the only ones that will merit FURTHER production. Settle for crap and you wind up with crap.
OUCH.
It gets a little lower score from me because i really can't stand her. A 3, and that's as high as I'll go for any of her work.

Sorry, but this song isn't so bad that it deserves the rating it's getting- it's Alanis herself that people are voting on and damnit, I get so fed up with that kind of crap- espcially since it's almost universally applied to female artists. It's not about the music, it's about not liking the WOMAN. Christ, when are we going to evolve past this shit? Y'all wecome to Brittany Spears because she's cute and fluffy and she never ever implies that she's anything other than eye candy- she never ever implies that she might be a real person with real feelings who writes about those feelings even if they might not be palatable to the male listener. Personally, I'll take the edgy rockers over the fluffy eye candy any day.
I agree the ratings are lower than the song warrants - I gave it a 6 which I think is fair. A rating of 2 seems harsh but everyone is entitled to their opinion. As for your generalizations, while this may be true of some, but to speak for myself, it's crap. On average I prefer a female vocalist to a male one (depends on type of music). My comment referred to Alanis' STYLE not her sex. Her 'angst' was novel at first now I find it tiresome. This particular song was less angst-ridden that most recently and thus I said I found it better than average for Alanis (not woman-kind in general) BTW Where does Brittany come in this? Why do you assume anyone NOT liking Alanis must like Brittany. Typical strawman (straw-woman ?) argument. All bluster & no substance. To Britanny I would give a 1 to most songs. Besides give us guys a break, even if we were attracted to the Brittany Fluff this is internet radio, I can't see a damn thing, I can only HEAR the music & I stand by my 6.

Song started off sounding very 'janis ian' ish. My ears perked up. Quickly became apparent it was Alanis. Started curling up in the fetal position feeling the Alanis "therapy" was about to start :-) In all fairness this is not bad, has some really good parts but the sum of the parts is "average".Maybe a bit better than average for Alanis.
