I let the genie out of the box
I let the genie out of the box
I'm scared of everything I am
I let the genie out of the box
I'm scared of opening the can
I let the genie out of the box

I had this recurring dream
I was living another life
In another country
In another time

As I got older the dream began to fade away
Until one day
There she was.. tapping me on my shoulder

She says she's got so much to say
But she's not telling it today
She said "Come back when you're alone"
But I'm not sure I want to know
Cause maybe her road
Is a one-way street
Maybe her road..

I'm scared of everything I am
I'm scared of opening the can
I'm scared of losing who I am
Think I might've taken all I can
I let the genie out of the box

She said there's a house in your mind
An attic of treasure, a forgotten pleasure park
Waiting inside you in the dark
Don't leave it behind
Don't leave it behind

I'm scared of everything I am
I'm scared of opening the can
I'm scared of losin' who I am
Think I might've taken all I can
I let the genie out of the box
I let the genie out of the box
Out of the box

Script for a Jesters Tear it is not. Do hear the Gabriel similarities though. It might grow on me.
Go further and listen to the whole album, a masterpiece, not easy listening but so deep and wonderful!!!
I like the sound that they've evolved into. 'Genie' is a good example of their embracing some pop sensibilities without going verse-chorus-verse-choruse-etc. The rest of the album has even better examples of evolving into the 21st century while still retaining some of their 80's melodic trademark riffs.

Well they quite a few older recordings out there. They've been around since I was at University and that was frigging years ago. They used to sound a little different though. Whatever happened to Fish? And what a bonehead idea to keep that handle. Edit: I like them a little then and don't like this particularly.
I'm the same way, the band hasn't been the same since they fired Fish. His real name is Derek Dick... I think that's why he stuck with "Fish" (as in 'drinks like a...'). He still does some solo stuff, and I've seen several albums of live half-Marillion/half-solo stuff, too.

Its not Jethro Tull but its close!
I'm guessing this is some thinly veiled jab at Jethro Tull. If so, what songs or albums in particular remind you of this mediocre song by Marillion.

A good friend of mine gave me the early-Genesis comparison too, but I don't really hear it. Didn't really like the CD much, but it might be the most beautiful CD box I've ever seen. The version I saw had a CD-sized book that was amazingly well done.
And "a lesser version of (early) Genesis" may still be pretty good!

Because he hates you?
Yeah, next thing he'll be buying you Bryan Adams anthologies. Maybe it's "tough love."

I wouldn't go that far. Still, it does nothing for me, and I'm usually a sucker for the melodramatic stuff.

It's hard for me to say. My brain was too shattered for comparisons by the time I made it to the mute button. Is it over yet?
worst song i ever heard on rp.

Marillion in like playing Peter gabriel with a very overdramatic feeling...Never liked them...never will...Just look at the first album cover...

What I've heard of this band always sounded a bit like a lesser version of Genesis to me.
