Love endures, it clings away
When asked to leave, it begs to stay
Like the perfect song, at imperfect times
It's the way the chords struck with the rhymes
So let your troubles roll by...

He knows he can help himself
He can tell by a look at the books on his shelf

And someone, somewhere loses her son
Before her own sunset is said and done

And she dreams of sunflowers bent-over
Frozen in snow, and thinks 'Colorado.. ?'
But then plays her life back in slow motion
To keep in touch with that raw emotion
In the night, crushed empty can
Olive Oyle is waiting for her man
To come in from the fight
That will change their life
'For good this time...'

When all of your tears dry, let your troubles roll by

Like New Year's Eve, tonight's underway
But tomorrow you'll wake up afraid of the day
'Cause underneath the scars of your broken dreams
An undone war still wages and stings
You fear the year will blow
Like a breeze through a rainbow
You swear it's there, but you can't grab a hold
So you sit and cry and wonder why, why...

When all of your tears dry, let your troubles roll by

So many cities and windows and lives
And through each one there's a soul that strives to survive
So pay no mind, my sorrow's fine
The day is a live and that's why I cry
It's a New Year's toast, grab your list to conspire
The last snake hissed as he was thrown in the fire
You've come far, and though you're far from the end
You don't mind where you are, cause you know where you've been

Like a culture vulture sprawled out on the floor
Like a dead devil soldier washed up on the shore
With nothing of note but the ole' Capt.'s coat
And a burning boat you just sank with your salty tears...

I'm not a depressive, but this song always makes me feel better. Not necessarily good, but better. It should get a 10 for that alone.
I AM a depressive, and I agree with you.

Very nice!  Really enjoying this tune today.
Always something new on RP. Echoes of The Decemberists...
Carbon Leaf is one of several bands I'd never heard before RP. Their 'The War Was In Color' is powerful songwriting.

Ok, now it's going from a 6 to a 7. Gets better as it goes.

Wait, you think these vocals sound like Michael Stipe?

Suddenly decided this is a really good song. Might have something to do with just having eaten a good lunch.
It's like a Decemberist is crying out somewhere to please be in this song. Any one would have worked it... better.
Bof Bof ... {#Think}
Carbon Leaf definitely has some downright catchy songs... I got turned onto them by RP and now have a lot of their stuff. Thanks, RP!
Very nice tune from Carbon Leaf.

I'm a Carbon Leaf fan, I confess. This song always reminds me to take a deep breath and let go of whatever I'm currently stressin' over. :)

well isn't that special  (no I mean it!   a neat tune  : )
Very nice.

Lovely one
These guys are great fun in concert and virtually unknown. They only perform sparingly now it seems. Too bad. Thanks, Bill.

I love this song. Niner for sure.

I love the cover art, it'd be a Niner if I could rate it.  The tune is a duce but I'll upgrade it to a tre 'cause of the photo.

Totally agree! My salvation lies in your love...

I like this song, interesting lyrics. The last snake hissed as he was thrown in the fire-...yikes!

Very nice, a first for me.  Really like the vocals and the tune really caught my attention as I was working.
I really like Carbon Leaf. One of those bands that you hear and think "that was okay" and then you catch yourself humming the tune later. :)
Sounds like Alexi Murdoch.
Great song - I highly recommend catching them live if you can. They sound great live and they usually hang out afterwards to chat.
Man, what a set! You GO Bill!
It only gets a two because the album cover has a nice car on it.

Great phrasing overall and good simple harmony in the chorus.

Sorry, am I a freak with no taste and knowledge? Or what? TOTALLY dislike this song and kind of music! Since this is the only song I know from them, I don't want to be unfair. Wonder what the other songs are like and if this one is maybe "the best" of the album even...? Not for me! Stingray!
Go away.
blah
I am liking this band more and more. May have to scare some of their cd's up.
Love the CD...highly recommend...this is the second or third best song . Best song is - Raise the Roof !

Have you actually looked at the lyrics? They seem rather literate and intelligent to me. A little more complex than most 7 year olds could pull off.
i agree w/marr  .

Nice sleeve photo and quite nice song, too.
This stuff is brilliant....let it rip Radio Paradise! (I cranked it up for this one and actually blew the window out of my Prius!!)
One of the first bands I heard here on RP. Thought, " What a name..." Now I think , "What a sound..." 8.
mmmmmm carbon leaf. What About Everything and One Praire Outpost are the best songs on this album, but heck it's all pretty good.
Really like this band. Saw them open for Great Big Sea, and and another time. Great fun.

Only one word to describe this tune: Godlike
I think that falls under the heading of (ahem) blasphemy.
Another lame band from my home state.
I know this tune and these guys get bashed on RP, and for the life of me I can't explain it, but I really dig this tune. I think it's the positive message and the way they deliver it. I dunno. Likeable anyway, though don't ask me why.

Oh, so Robbie Williams does have followers after all.
I noticed that myself.
ouuuuuuu... OIL ... makes everything feel better
Exactly the right song for today. Thanks!
This guy's lyrics all sound like they were written by a 7 year old.
Love his voice. Is there a bit o irish in there?
i like the rhythym in his singing its good.
:puke:
Oh, so Robbie Williams does have followers after all. Californian ones by the sound of it. Trite, trite, trite!
3? OMG, now you're joking me right? why so high? :puke: pyxxel wrote:
OMG are you kidding? IMO there are so many things why this tune doesn't work - the lyrics don't fit the melody, the intrumentation doesn't complement the singing, the mandolin solo is an anti-climx and the whole tune sounds contrived to me. Sorry, 3 is the max for me here :(

I saw them in Park City where they openned for BHTM. They're pretty good live; but after BHTM rocked the house down, I couldn't even remember Carbon Leaf's name. I kept on calling them "Copper something"...
I saw these guys open up for Big Head Todd. Pretty enjoyable and seemed like a nice bunch. :nodhead:

Good melody.

this sounds like about a million other songs. bores me. great name for a band though
These guys are great live. I didn't catch on to this song until I heard it live and then had it pop up on my iPod playlist a few times. Now I'm hooked.

refreshing! Although liked them better as "One Fell Swoop".
joking, right?
My fav Carbon Leaf album is still Echo Echo, but this is nice. I might just look into it. Man, I remember when these guys were just a local band. It's nice to see them getting recognition.

Carbon Leaf is the only group I regret a bit having bought after listening to it on RP. It doesn't grow. Kila does, and I'm still awaiting Solas and Air.
Yeah...it's wierd, it's not bad, but it's not good either :frustrated:
My first post. Weird! I just got out of the car where my MP3 player was playing THIS song! My computer is on when I walk in and is playing this. Synchronicity. I like it.
Was just saying this sounded like a Carbon Leaf.. and then here it is.. a carbon leaf song.. So far a lot taht I've heard comes from RP, I went to their web site.. and found they offer a lot of their music for free download.. and of course most of what they've offered is very good.. like it.. thinkin' of buyin... Thanks again RP :beat: for making me want to spend more money

A bit emphatic, but not bad ...
I hear this band too much, and that's not a good thing.
That just made my day!!! I love these guys. If you would like to see them live they are playing Atlanta, GA at Vinyl on 11/5; Carrboro, NC at Cat's Cradle on 11/6; and Richmond, VA in Shockoe Bottom on 11/14.
If this doesn't deserve a :bounce: I don't know what does!
My favorite song on this album! Awesome!

Because they are so damn good
They're journeymen ---- skilled at what they do, but not artists. Lots of other bands have done this sort of music better (Waterboys, Spirit of the West, Hothouse Flowers to name just three). Add me to the list of listeners who can't understand why they get so many songs played so often on RP.

Really like these guys alot. Found out about them here and bought Echo Echo. I wish there was some way RP could get credit from iTunes for referral, since I've switched to that from buying CDs
Geo - They do, click on the song in the "not playing" then look for the itunes link and click it!
I am done with this Carbon Leaf idolization on RP... I don't rate em any higher than a 3... Please pick another (preferaly better) group to overplay to death....
Like these guys more every time I hear them. :daisy.gif:

This whole album is awesome and the lyrics are outstanding. I wonder if he got the girl he is singing about back?

Well, it's hard for groups not to sound like anything else out there. This sounds like "jump little children", but still, good!
really? i'm not a huge jump fan, tho i've been to a few shows, and i don't think barry ( lead singer of the leaf ) sounds a bit like jay or matt. I think both jump and the Leaf have some pretty fine unique sounds - not like each other, and not like much else out there. Bravo RP for being a place I can hear them both! :)
Well, it's hard for groups not to sound like anything else out there. This sounds like "jump little children", but still, good! Carbon Leaf - On any given day is a winner though :)
Wow! Good! They're playing this weekend near me! Going. Jump, Little Children remake? 5 guys, east coast, celtic roots. Awsome!
I'll be seeing them Saturday night for the second time.. at a beach bar. Can't wait.
Gotta Love Carbon Leaf!
Saw these guys open up for Great Big Sea here in Austin this spring. Great show, lots of energy. And ya gotta love it when the lead singer goes to man the t-shirt table after their gig.
Carbon Leaf performed this song in Salina, KS in the middle of June. I knew then I wanted their soon-to-be-released CD.
Their first album with a label! Good luck, guys! Keep kicking ass.
Pretty groovy. Reminds me of Robbie Williams' Millennium in ways.
