My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why
I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
And I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be grey
But your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad
It's not so bad

I drank too much last night, got bills to pay
My head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there'll be hell today
I'm late for work again
And even if I'm there,
They'll all imply that I might not last the day
And then you call me and it's not so bad
It's not so bad

And I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life
And oh just to be with you is having the best day of my life

Push the door, I'm home at last
And I'm soaking through and through
Then you handed me a towel and all I see is you
And even if my house falls down now
I wouldn't have a clue
Because you're near me

And I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life
And oh just to be with you is having the best day of my life

I think you might be slightly overthinking this.  But in any case, it's entirely possible that she experienced the "best day of my life" because such a thing is subjective and not necessarily governed by the provision of umbrellas and hot drinks.

I'm with you, Edweirdo.  My take is the song is about being completely in love.  That's why even when you're paying for hell at work, a simple call makes everything OK.

No...No...No!

Handing someone a towel after they walked home in the rain does not and I repeat does not equal giving a person the 'best day of their life'. I hear no additional influence on her day by this person causing it to be 'the greatest.'

Maybe if this person had met at work with an umbrella and a hot cocoa, and
walked her home, and when they got there her cat, who had been missing
for a week, was sitting at the front door, maybe we would be getting
closer to a 'good day,' but most definitely not the 'greatest.'

Where was one of over involved jerky record executives when I needed one?

I get that you're doing a bit, but this reminds me of the whole "Wait, why won't you tell us what you won't do for love, Meat Loaf?" thing -- it's in the song! "Just to be with you is having the best day of my life!"

Can't stand this or any of her 'work' - I love the PSD button :-)
Just makes me want to hear some old school Eminem.

Yes, I know. I'm the worst.
Smooth as silk. Where did she disappear to?
I can associate great memories with this.....
I have two of her albums and enjoy both a lot.
Great lyrics. NOT!
sweet
I think she's lying about being no angel.

Sorry to say but I prefer the Stan version :P

a nice little ditty {#Cheesygrin}
anyone hear this one before?
always makes me think on a nice walk through a charming city (London?), like those video-clip moments on many films. Makes me dream, so at least 8 (isn't music meant to transport you somewhere?)

overplayed or not, this is a really good song.
I recall back when they played this on every radio station about every 3.5 seconds. Got to a point in which I wanted to hack off my ears...but I survived. Haven't heard it in a long time and kind of like it again. Funny how likes and dislikes can come full circle.

This song has it all! Can't hear it enough!
