Listen to Dave Matthews "Time of the Season"  I think you will forget about Ben Taylor or anyone else!

I was wondering why nobody else was commenting on this... is it just me? Then I went digging and found this comment. I really quite like Ben's stuff, and this wouldn't be unbearable were it not for the fact that he changed the lyrics which contained the title, of all things. Every time I hear it, and he must sing it a million times during the song (it seems), it sets my teeth on edge. I think it's giving me OCD. I wonder if he thought he was being clever, or if he just genuinely got it wrong? It's the time OF the season FOR loving, Ben!!!!!
Sorry. They are trying way too hard. I try to follow Thumper's words, "If you can't say sumthin' nice, don't say nothin' at all," but in this case ...

I don't know, I love the original and I don't think this is an improvement, that distorted guitar/synth/harmonica/whatever the hell it was break in the middle was supremely annoying. Had no idea it was James' kid though, interesting.
Now, having heard this again, I must agree and withdraw my original assessment. I don't know what I was thinking. Had to have been temporary insanity.
I'm really digging this version. (pimp)
Sounds like a Genesis cover band picked this tune for a quick spin in order to perform a sound check. Quite difficult to listen to. Ouch.
BAB.
Making the next track sound all the better. Maybe that's the reason this track is still in rotation.
Nice cover...definitely different, and this time it's good.
Pleasured Hands...
This was chilling, but a great cover. The original was already on the creepy side of cradle-robbing ("What's your name? Who's your daddy? ... give it to me easy and let me try with pleasured hands to take you and the sun to promised lands"). This turns up the creepy to 11. Brrrrr!
This is stupid. The original song was stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

I heard he was under the endzone of the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
In Detroit we think he's underneath I-696, which they were building back then.
What a horrible version. :puke:
It's covers like this that confuse me. I understand wanting not to be too faithful, to make the song your own for a bit, but this? I'm sure Ben's mom loves it.

Thank you. As long as you were postulating & prophesizing, I thought I'd ask.
Please play the original, or something else by the Zombies.

He is approximately "dead."
:drunk: :verymad: :-& This gets me completely out of the Time of the Season for loving... I do feel a queasiness coming on though. The key and intonation of him 'singing' lo-o-oving is gut-wrenching in a bad way. And in that first verse I'll add that the vocals brought to mind the incredibly uncomfortable feeling of being approached in an inappropriate manner. Then we get to the background accompaniment/screeching... I just began to wonder if he was doing a satire. I'm disappointed. His voice itself is pretty decent and I feel this had more potential. Everything does, I suppose. But this was torture for me to listen to.

Me too. Truly awful - yikes!

What was the point of this?
I for one find this version quite likable. Unlike the original, even diabetics can listen to this version without going into shock ;-) . flame on!
Wow, brutal comments. I'm often skeptical of covers but this strikes me as an "accurate" contemporary interpretation of the original in the sense that it if The Zombies had recorded this song today instead of nearly 40 years ago, this is approximately what it would sound like. I'll give this a semi-enthusiastic thumbs-up.

i haven't been this turned off by a cover version since... hmmm... when was the last time Johnny Cash was played?
Give us the original - this is a travesty! :butt: :beat: :fire: :puke: :yell: :puke: <-X

i'm sorry, maybe it's my mood today, and i usually try to be fair even with music i personally don't like, it's all subjective - but this is fucking uninspired garbage.

Geez... Haven't those of us past the age of... oh... 30, say, heard enough scratchy speakers to last twice our lifetimes?
Yes. Ben sounds like Phil Collins.
This has got to be the very worst cover of any song ever produced.... my ears are bleeding... PLEASE, make it stop!
this is just plain .... stupid. :crashcomp:
Geez... Haven't those of us past the age of... oh... 30, say, heard enough scratchy speakers to last twice our lifetimes? I can't believe someone sat in the recording studio and played with the knobs until that NOISE showed up and then got the votes to keep it in. Really, really annoying especially considering how much cash has been spent trying to eliminate that type of NOISE ...... :grumpy: .....

So YOU are the culprit!!! This is the limp noodle of music. Devoid of any of the life that the Byrds had in their version. :puke:
The Byrds? THE BYRDS? Rod Argent would be spinning in his grave, if he were dead. (Is he? It's so hard to keep track...) At the very least, "Roger" (Jim) McGuinn would be spinning in HIS grave if HE were dead.
Hadn't heard this before...I like it! Imagine, James's little boy does the Zombies! But seriously, it's one of the few updates/covers I've heard that actually sounds good -- if not better than -- the original (think: Heroes, I'm a Believer...yeccchhh).
Nope. :headshake:

I was never much of a fan of covers until I started listening to RP and heard some really interesting ones. So, when I got this CD and heard this song, I just had to upload it. I still prefer the original, but I really do like this interpretation of the song.

I think the itchy little intro noise is cool ... the rest of it's a snooze. oh well
Good song and interpertation. At least we haven't it heard selling cars, YET...

Geeeeeeez am i sitting in some coffeehouse listening to some knucklehead play this? Blech :frustrated:
Interesting rendition of the original, but it's still a cover. I guess I'm just tired of covers in general. :grumpy.gif:

This is cool. Thanks to the uploader.
hee. it makes me giggle. thumbs up.
A nice homage to the original with enough individuality to make it interesting.

I agree. However, the song is still pretty logged down with mold, though. Don't know if it will ever scrape off. Nice try, though.

Thanks, but I'll take Rod Argent's version over this one.
I am with you...It is ok but nothing like the original..I can still listen to this very very once in a while
Who's your daddy, indeed.
Wow, kinda neat to see how polarized people are with this cover! I guess I have to say I am on the like it side. Very original arrangement..... Viva la difference, or as someone below just said before blowin' chunks.... To Each Their Own!
Thanks, but I'll take Rod Argent's version over this one.
to each his own but imho :puke:
Better than the original.

This cover is almost there. Really shows how much potential this song has got. I was there for the Zombies, I remember the Zombies, the Zombies were friends of mine, but I might like this cover even more than the original!
I had to disagree..I found it very mediocre
Every time I hear Ben Taylor, I am struck by how much he sounds like his father. A good thing, imho.

they wish....
rubbish
Eh. It's okay I guess. I do like the synthesizer part. But, the original was pretty close to perfect.
he does have a very smooth voice. great job Ben!
I agree - a good cover!
AAAH i heard this on the LRC a long time ago and hoped it would get onto the main stream. i love it. nice cover. i'm usually partial to originals over covers, but i like this way better than the original. call me crazy.
Well done cover of a good song to begin with. The kid has a great voice as well.
I love a good cover and this is very good!!
