There's a tug at my heart
Like a rope it's pulling
Out on the horizon
But I've no way of knowing
Where to start

Nothing is for sure no sleep still in my eyes
Fumbling for the door oh she doesn't like to face the morning light
Nothing is for sure oh as I begin my day
Glasses are a blur as my world's about to spin the other way

Staring at the ceiling
I can see to heaven
But only when I'm willing
So I pray for the strength
To begin again again

Nothing is for sure no sleep still in my eyes
Fumbling for the door oh she doesn't like to face the morning light
Nothing is for sure oh as I begin my day
Glasses are a blur as my world's about to spin the other way

Spin me the other way
I've got to learn not to say always
Spin me the other way
People on the other half got no worries

Nothing is for sure no sleep still in my eyes
Fumbling for the door oh she doesn't like to face the morning light
Nothing is for sure no as I begin my day
Glasses are a blur as my world's about to spin the other way

Nothing is for sure oh
And nothing is for sure
Spin me the other way
I've got to learn not to say always

Does not sound like he has a relationship with God.

i don't care who he's trying to sound like - that breathy vocal just makes me want to smack him. Too bad, 'cause it's a nice enough tune.

perhaps it was just awkwardly stated. perhaps it means ; this guy is trying too hard to sound just like Lennon? That is a statement I would agree with.

Funny, I kept hearing George Harrison

Why, does he look thirsty?

he shoulda made his bed afore they took the pitcher.

This may be one of the stupidest things ever written in this forum. Let's face it, any singer/songwriter post 1968 could be called a "Lennon-wannabe". Lennon set the standard. He's who we all wanted to be.(or Paul, maybe!!!) And really wouldn't, even you, like to have written just one of John Lennons songs?

This song is repetitive, that is for sure.

Well, yeah... nothin.

Check him out on the song "The Whole Shebang" where he's channeling Bowie. His ability to sound like Lennon and Bowie says to me that he's got some amazing pipes, otherwise he'd sound like . . . Bob Dylan.
Does he think anything is for sure?

I happen to think he's in fact a very good singer
this reminds of the crap Charlie Garcia used to do back in the day.
just another Lennon-wannabe

Hate falsetto in general. Hate this one in particular--it is even worse than that on Beatles songs. An amazing zchievement (neologism).
Fully agree...

I actually like it! EDIT: Too long though, could have been a perfect 1 minute song..
I've just dropped from 6 to three, and that is not because I don't like Oracle (wich is a nice expensive product for end users, but should be forbidden for the sake of system administrators). It is nice to listen to. But only once. Once a year that is. More is overplaying it.

yah :highfive: I hear that too, and you're right it's not a bad thing at all.
If you like Phillips, his band Grant Lee Buffalo put out 3 really good albums.
so I've investigated further...I now own two Grant Lee CDs (Mobilize and Virginia Creeper) and they are fantastic... RP, you're costing me a lot of damn $!
Reminds me of David Garza. Terrific sound.
Love grant lee, he plays at Largo quite frequently in Los Angeles.
I'd heard of this guy, but hadn't heard his music until this song...wow. must investigate further...

This is just awesome, and has a very definite John Lennon feel to it.
or some mellow Billy Squier - almost embarassed to make that connection, but I can hear it....
Spin me the other way I've got to learn not to say always :(
Anne Marie and trekhead... I'm so glad you enjoyed the lyrics!! absolutely my pleasure.... and long live Grant-Lee! :grouphug.gif:
I'll be a Radio Paradise fan as long as you play Grant Lee. He's totally under-rated and Grant Lee Buffalo's Vancouver show was what smart rock and roll should sound like: loud, confident, melodic, and innovative.
Thanks to beautifuldreamer, nice! And agreed.
This made me stay at work a little bit longer today. :D

Hello fellow listeners: I have been a dedicated fan of Grant Lee Phillips for the past three years. I have managed to collect three of his solo albums (Ladies' Love Oracle, Mobilize and Virginia Creeper) and one double CD set from the former Grant Lee Buffalo (Gems from the Vault...) ... this guy is phenomenal... lyrically and melodically... NEVER disappoints me. I have attended 3 live shows---- I sometimes feel lucky- when the venues are rather small and intimate... but in the back of my mind--- I know this guy should be a millionaire... then my nickname took wings: beautifuldreamer (the name of one of my all time favorite songs from Mobilize) at any rate--- I'll get to the point--- I just wanted to share my opinion and the lyrics to this beautiful song (I'll also try to remember to post lyrics whenever I hear one of his songs... and no I'm not his agent!) I think I like it because it reminds me of the HOllies "I'll Pay You Back with Interest."
This is just awesome, and has a very definite John Lennon feel to it.
