Kyle Chandler.....
Perhaps  a strange comment, but I always played the sound track to American Beauty while grading my students' college chemistry exams.  I mentioned this to a colleague and she started doing the same.  And I always finished grading them the same day as the exam because that is what students deserve.  Oh, and I like Lester's speech at the end of the movie...
Youngest son of Alfred Newman, famous film composer. Cousin of Randy. Runs in the family!

Amazing bass.

watched this on my own in Bray cinema, co. wicklow. ireland. loved this song. loved this film.
I own two movie soundtrack albums.  This one, and In the Bedroom.  Both are by Mr. Newman, and both are truly extraordinary.
Reminds me of the theme song of the HBO series  Six Feet Under.

Ooo, turns out he wrote that theme.

No relation to Alfred E. Neuman, however.
Totally enjoyable. Leave the movie and Spacey out of it. It's only music. Did I say only?

Ironic, now that we know more about Spacey.  Apparently he was acting naturally.  With the obvious difference, of course.
Perhaps a tribute today to the less illustrious Kevin Spacey?
OMG!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG, and this movie.

The movie was a critique about many different parts of society. Interesting how that one stuck in your craw.

A fair point, and you're right, it was a multi-faceted movie. However, seeing as the central character was Kevin Spacey's menopausal man, I think it's not unreasonable for his middle-aged travails and fantasies to be the main thing that I remember about it.
The music was so important in this great movie.

Loved right out the gate!
Both films - American Beauty and K-Pax - are as great as are their soundtracks :) Kevin Spacey before Frank Underwood. (Not that F.U. isn't good. Just well..not as likable as these two characters, Prott especially).
Theme music for the CBS series "The Mentalist."
if you have a good stereo listen to this

Amazing movie and a great score by Thomas Newman. I'd love to hear more soundtracks on RP!
Can you dance to this?  YES.
One of the best movie soundtracks ever. Thomas Newman is my fave modern composer.
The movie still remains, to me one of the best movies I've ever seen.
It also won best picture of the year.

Not so fast there, big boy.  I ride a motorbike and enjoy chatting up women from 20-year-olds to 80-year-olds, always without lecherous intent ... well, almost always without lecherous intent. My youth may be gone, but not my enthusiasm for life.

And if I'm middle-aged now, I'll live to be 120.

Awesome soundtrack from Thomas Newman. American Beauty is on my list one of the Top 10 Best Movies of All Time.
Thomas Newman is the best composer today.
Hard to divorce the track from the film... both great...

great tune from an amazing movie!
So excellent!  Gotta love the opening music from one of America's darkest films first thing on a Friday morning.

Bill, The name of the song is 'Dead Already', not 'Still Dead.'
Wow!  REM, the Beatles and Thomas Newman...all in a row.  I love RP!  Thanks, Bill. {#Notworthy}
One of the best composers ever.
TOOO BAD Bill never plays some Basil Poledouris' stuff. I tried soooo many times to have him play some Conan The Barbarian tune, even the very day of the composer's death...

Love it!
