J'ai jamais appris à me battre
je me souviens
baila baila
hay que bailar de nuevo
y mataremos otros
otras vidas y otros toros
y mataremos otros
venga venga baila
y mataré los otros

I've been waiting in this dark room for so long
I can hear the fun and singing down the hall
Someone touched the lock
And I plunged into the great day
I saw the bands, the fences
And the people around
In the first moments
I thought it was only to defend myself
but this place is a dead end
I'm beginning to understand
They closed behind me
They were afraid I'd back out
I'm gonna get this ridiculous dancer in the end
Is this world serious?
Andalusia, I remember the meadows
lined with cactus
I'm not going to tremble in front of this puppet, this little one
I'll catch him and his hat
I'm going to spin them like a sun
Tonight, the bullfighter's wife will sleep
on these two ears
Is this world serious?
I've chased ghosts
Almost touched their ballerinas
They hit my neck hard
to make me bow down
Where did these acrobats come from?
With their paper costumes?
I never learned to fight
Against dolls
Feeling the sand under my head
It's amazing how good it feels
I prayed for it all to end Andalusia
I remember
I hear them laugh as I moan
I see them dance as I succumb
I never thought we could have so much fun
Around a grave
Yeah, yeah, man man man
dance dance dance
we've got to dance again
and we'll kill others
other lives and other bulls
and we'll kill others
come come come dance
and I'll kill the others
Wow
Merci RP
Merci M. Cabrel
sure Claya !
it's about toromachia (bullfighting) and how stupid and bloody that's. It is sang from the bull's point of view .
The poor animal repeats some time "is this world serious ? " .
The bull sees what he thinks is a puppet (the matador) and don't understand why everybody laugh and shout . "I didn't know one's can have so much fun around a grave"
It's rather sad but it makes you think. very moving
F Cabrel is VERY famous in France, nearly all his songs are hits.
Very moving indeed. Beautiful song.
And such a cruelty bullfighting is!
Quel fromage!
another cheesy comment? Quel DOMAGE

Beautyful song. 1994 and sadly not a thing has changed... Bullfighting is sooo cruel!
This is truly one of the most beautiful songs of all time, as far as I'm concerned. The lyrics, however, always make my eyes well up.

Francis was a great fan of thé eagles.
i Hope your enjoy.
hello from France....
Salut caporal77m
I was on a farm in Stellenbosch South Africa today and there was a sign at the office stating-If you want to cross this field you must do it 9 seconds. Because the Bull does it in 10 seconds. Classic. Yes I would rather have the bull in nature than being jabbed and stabbed to death . I love this alternative music . Thanks to RP for finding excellent music -Even South African Artists

Not sure what is more cruel, a bull raised in relatively good circumstances and dying a cruel death in a corrida, or a cow leading a terrible life and slaughtered 'humanely' for human consumption.

My Colombian girlfriend way back in the day invited me to a bull fight in Bogota. I try not to be judgmental. It was fascinating but I could see it getting really boring after a while.
You were saying about the welfare of the bull?
10 puntos para La corrida.
A masterpiece, nothing less!
i Hope your enjoy.
hello from France....
Lovely!!
So out of place with the posted lyrics
I am french and agreed this comment !
We are not all like this ;)
Tu agrée n'importe quoi alors ... tu n'as même pas regardé l'original ... Vas voir et apprends
I seem to sense a bit of that infamous french arrogance in this comment. Being french myself, I feel a bit ashamed when this proves not to be a legend... :/
And BTW, when I listen to non-french or non-english songs (which happens quite often), I also don't get the lyrics and hence I have a "limited code" (whatever that means). But where's the problem, as long as I enjoy the music?
peace
You don't read all my sentences ... so funny to take just one part of my text. Do you do like that for all ?
Merci RP.

Reference is made in a comment below to the expression in French to sleep on one's two ears, meaning to sleep soundly. This is true in a general sense, but when applied to bull fighting there is another meaning altogether. When a torero succeeds in putting down the bull with artistry, he can be awarded one of the bull's ears. When his performance is deemed exceptional, he is awarded both ears. Thus when Cabrel's bull is saying the torero's wife will sleep on his, the torero's, two ears (ses deux oreilles), what is meant is that the bull intends to dispatch said torero in no uncertain fashion.
Magnifique album, superbe chanson. :)
Manu Katché on drums.
I hear having fun and singing at the end of the corridor
Someone have touch the bolt and I have dive in way of the great day
I have seen the brass bands, the gates
And people around
In the first moments
I did believe it was just a question of defense
But this place has no issue
I begin to understand
The have locked behind me
The did fear i go back
I will well have her
This ridiculous dancer
Is this world serious ?
Andalousia I remember of the pastures
Bordered with cactus
I will not quake in front of this puppet, this shorty
I will catch him and his hat
Make theim turning as a sun
This evening the torrero's wife will sleep
On his two ears
Is this world serious ?
I have pursue of them some ghosts
Almost touch their ballerinas
The have hurt strong in my neck
For I do lean down
Where do they come from these acrobats
With their paper costumes
I did never learn to fight
Against some dolls
Feeling the sand above my head
It's crazy how it can be good
I did pray for all does stop
Andalousia I remember
I hear theim laugh as I do gasp
I see theim dancing as I do succumb
I did not believe some can have such fun
Around a grave
Yes, Yes, Man man
Dance dance
I have to dance again
And you'll kill some others
Others lifes and others bulls
Come on come on dance
And kill the others
Sorry for a frenzy traduction i prefer world to world traduction better than make a nice phrase slepp on the two ears is the french expression for sleep without a worry
This song use the image of the corrida with personification of the bull to translate the iniquitous a life's fight
Happy new year everybody,
And anyway...
Fight !
Thank you Finoufk for explaining the lyrics. My french is rather poor but with your explanation I understand the lyrics rather well, I believe. The absurdity and cruelty of bullfighting is obvious! I feel very sorry for the bull! May this kind of mediaeval cruelty stop!
Is it still law in France to play mostly French music on the radio?

Well all I can say is I fell in love with this man's music and knew the words were meaningful even with my very limited French. But thanks RP listeners for providing me with the translation!
Andalousie je me souviens

You mean PSD as in Profoundly Stupid Diatribe? Yes, let's close our minds, hearts and borders. That's got to be the answer. So many examples of what a success that is.
The EU is what we make it, and if politicians stopped waving it around either as an ideal (which it isn't yet) or as a red rag, then perhaps we'd see and do things differently.
P.S. Now, if you were taking the Mickey, good on you.
Thank you to RP to play french music around the world ! Love U <3

That translation is horribly word-for-word, it may help to follow the original lyrics that way, but it loses so much of the poetry. It really is so bad that it seemed worth spending just a few minutes knocking together something a bit more idiomatic:
In this dark room
I hear laughter and singing
From down the corridor;
Someone slid the bolt
And I rushed toward the daylight
I saw the brass band, the gates
The people all round
At first I thought
That I was only supposed to defend myself
But there's no exit from this area
I'm beginning to understand
They've closed up behind me
They were afraid I'd go back
But I'll end up getting
That ridiculous dancer
Is this world for real?
Is this world for real?
Andalucia, I remember
The meadows surrounded by cactuses...
I'll not tremble before
This marionnette, this loser!
I'll catch him, him and his hat
Make them spin like a cartwheel
The matador's wife is going to
Sleep soundly tonight
Is this world for real?
Is this world for real?
I chased a bunch of ghosts
Almost swiped their dancing shoes
They struck blows to my neck
To bring me to my knees
Where are they coming from, these acrobats
With their paper costumes?
I never learnt to fight
Against dolls...
It's crazy how good the sand
Feels against my cheek
I prayed for it all to stop
Andalucia, I remember...
I hear them laughing as I wheeze
I see them dance as I go under
I never realized that you could
Have so much fun around a tomb.
Is this world for real?
Is this world for real?
Baila, baila
Hay que bailar de nuevo
Y mataremos otros
Otras vidas, otros toros
Y mataremos otros
Venga, venga a bailar...
Y mataremos otros
Thank you Bill and Rebecca <3

Wow!! Many times I wonder
For non french native , read the lyrics , they blow up bullfighting !
Perfecto
Love it, and always happy to go and see Francis when he performs.
Thank you Bill

How I agree!!

If not, do go. For the novelty. So you can say that you have been to a bull fight so in 2 decades from when they are no longer, you can talk about the old days.
A Colombian girlfriend invited me to my one and only bull fight in Bogota, Colombia in 1977. I enjoyed it though mostly from an amateur anthropological perspective.
Politics is my favourite blood sport.
Want to really be a toreador? Face the full-strength bull alone and unarmed. Or run with a herd of them through the streets of Pamplona.
