I like it!  Roger Miller did the original. It is the first time that I've heard this version. I like both!  Thanx RP!

Oh, man, you're surely wrong there. I love that The Proclaimers always sing in their true Fife/Embra accents, and proudly so. The worst thing they could have done in covering this song would have been to put on some cod US accent.

EDIT: How come smileys never work for me?

I have found that using Google Chrome the smileys don't work for me as well.  They do work in Firefox and IE.  I haven't done any debugging to figure out why.
You're friend in the broken image club.  {#Cheers}
Will probably like this song after my lobotomy surgery...

Well I suppose I have to agree its not as good as Roger Miller but then The Proclaimers do come frommy home town Edinburgh and therefore I am very biased - anything they do is GREAT
Doesn't hold a flame to the original.
OK — anyone out there not snapping their fingers had better check their pulse!

You beat me to it!

*sigh* I love the Proclaimers, but they really shouldn't ever be allowed to cover anything, especially someone as iconic as Roger Miller.
This version of this song is forever linked to an experience from this summer:

bhd, hobbitt, and I were driving from Wyoming back to Washington. Throughout our drive, we were listening to large blocks (hours worth) of music ripped from RP. During our travels on the second day, we were approaching the Columbia River Gorge, and this song came on. Listening it, we were trying to determine who it was that was singing the song in this manner, and it all made sense when we heard Bill's voice tell us it was The Proclaimers. We took great joy (particularly bhd) in the brogue of the singer singing "kind of the rrrroad" and continued to imitate it for several minutes after the song ended.

Thank you for that, Bill. Not just for playing this version of this song (which I doubt we would have heard anywhere else), but for this community that made friends of this wonderful couple (bhd and hobbitt) and myself.

These guys are great. They have some great stuff.
I like this cover!!!!

I saw these guys preform at a club in Toronto a few years ago. They were terrific! They've been around for a while and they've got a solid back catalog.

I would walk 500 miles to get away from this song...
Enjoying the nostalgic feel of this set — King of the Road on the tail of Just a Bum (thought Greg Brown was Dan Hicks!!)

Great to hear the unabashedly proud Scotts accent from these boys on a classic tune.

At least you didn't call it a Scotch accent.
Man that accent just doesn't work.

Ok, after listening to the whole thing, I appreciate it more, but that was pretty jarring.

great
I love this cover. But doesn't the guy on the left play bass for U2?

Just sayin'.  {#Roflol}

EDIT: How come smileys never work for me?

DOUBLE EDIT:

And the guy on the right has a tv show, doesn't he?

TRIPLE EDIT: And by 'cover,' I mean the song, not the artwork. {#Shifty}

Yeah, but the original (better) version is in the library and it's never been played.  How come?

this is a great cover
These guys are great. They have some great stuff.
I like this cover!!!!
Nice album cover. They look so much older and less nerdy. I'm a big fan of the song "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" and the video makes them look like the biggest geeks in the world. What happened to those Coke bottle lenses?

Yeahaaa!!!!  I got to hear it when it came around on the rotation.

I really love these guys.  If you ever get a chance to listen to "Jean"...   It's a good schtuupin' song.

Thanks, Bill.

Great cover and great set. "time ain't money when all you have is time"

"... maaawwwn of means..."

"Broooom"

LOVE it!

I kinda like this, but the accent makes it sound just a bit wrong.
I think this is very cool, and I loved the original. Good take on this song.
Great to hear the unabashedly proud Scotts accent from these boys on a classic tune.

Nice cover of a beloved song. Sometimes with the Proclaimers, they initially sound good, but lose something after multiple listens.
Bill, cheers to you and your love of quirky cover songs!  {#Cheers}
{#Confused}

...and yet, the original hasn't been played on RP.

Meh.
It's not Roger Miller, but...I like it.  The lead singer's accent sets it off.

{#Surprised}
2nd. (Edit 3rd) Wonder if this is the first time it's been played.

Not nearly as good as the original, but still puts a smile on my face.
Adding a comment to song that has not been played yet... Very Interesting, but Schtuuupid. I heard 500 miles and then went looking to see if this song was on RP and here it is un-played and un-commented. Makes me want to yell FIRST!! Anyways I love this cover. Thanks in advance for playing it Bill.
