And you, were right to bide your time and not buy into my misery,
well the good things are never free,
do the colours of the rainbow look the same to everyone,

And I, was rushin' round in circles for a reason to believe,
wipe the slime from of your sleeve,
you could follow me for weeks and i'm not goin' anywhere,

Sometimes it's hard to love someone,
until the day that they are gone,

And I, just had a dream the other night,
I was married to the Queen,
and Madonna lived next door,
I think she took a shine to me,
and the kids were all grown up,
but I had to turn her down coz I was still in love with you,

I'm turnin' Madonna down,
i'm callin' it my best move,
i'll get a ticket to what you need,

I, remember doin' nothin' on the night Sinatra died,
and the night Jeff Buckley died,
and the night Kurt Cobain died,
and the night John Lennon died,
I remember I stayed up to watch the news with everyone,

And that was a lot of nights,
and that was a lot of lives,
they lost the tickets to what they need,

And I, was busy findin' answers while you just got on with real life,
always hoped you'd be my wife,
but I never found the time,
for the question to arrive,
I just disguised it in this song,

And songs, are never quite the answer,
just a soundtrack to a life,
that is over all too soon,
helps to turn the days to night,
while I was wrong and you were right,

And this was a lesson learned,
I'm happy to be your fool,
and get you tickets to what you need,

I'm turnin' the lights down low,
i'm ready to make my move,
i'll get you tickets to what you need.

Not one of Damon's better efforts.

I hear the Robyn Hitchcock influence already mentioned by several , along with more than a hint of REM's "Electrolyte."

It's French for bridge. Maybe he was saying it doesn't have a bridge. Where's that confounded bridge?

hahahaha ... that about says it!!

A lot of "Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams" in this song.
Badly drawn song.  And the Andrew Bird whistling nails the coffin shut.  3

He can do much, much better.

Poor choices for mates, there's a comparison.

Long stringy hair. Beloved rock stars. Life ended too soon. I'd say it's easy to compare.
I usually like BDB, but this is kind of drab.
I really like this song. Haven't heard it in ages... Thanks for the memory blast!
kinda drags on a little...................

There's a difference oh wise one...you would imagine BDB have a say in how their songs are used. Mozart is fairly passive these days. Advertising Hummers is poor form.
Hey, weren't most of those composers in the olden days commissioned by tyrannical monarchs? Just wondering.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way...
I just LUUUURV this song!

such a sweet song.

Uh yeah, but I wouldn't say that Candy made much in the way of music...
Move over Andrew Lloyd Weber

A bridge. And he/she's right, there really isn't a bridge in this song. Still likeable, with a bonus for the references.

good pop. good pop references.
This song is growing on me. Went from a 6 to a 8. Pretty good, well written lyrics.

I don't know why I like it, I tell my self I shouldn't... but I like it.
it makes me sad everytime he talks about john lennon, jeff buckly, kurt kobain :( this song seems very self-aware.

it's a gimmick. he often does that. or at least he did, back in the day when he had only a few songs. maybe he just did it to pad out the concert to a reasonable length (although the first time i saw him, the concert was over 3 hours long -- was very glad i had a seat....)

perhaps.. mmm yes, might be just a little bit. ;)

Love the cover. Not so much the toon...
This sounds way better than the REM preceding it... I absolutely LOVE the album cover! fureanbode wrote:

this is not good.
Love it!
I really like the music he did for the movie About a Boy. I watched the movie, fell in love with it, and go so obsessed with the music that I scrambled around looking for this guy. I like certain pieces but some of his stuff I wasn't necessarily enthralled with. But I really have to say I enjoy this guy as an artist.
Yuk! Everything including the kitchen sink! What's with the over-orchestration anyway? Probably wouldn't be a bad pop song but sounds like Phil Spector got a hold of it!!!
I love the little "hidden" proposal in the song. I wonder if it was real.
Clever sigue. The REM song sounds like Badly Drawn Boy so much that I had to look to check.!!
WHY wont it end?
It's really a nice tune! perhaps a little long... =)
I like it. Funny album cover too.
Nice segue from REM. Excellent!!!

Those little drumming rythm shifts, or whatever they are called... these things make me mute my player. Bad, bad, bad!
This song kind or reminds me or The Orange Peels. Hmmm... I should upload a couple of their songs. ...don't thing they are in the RP playlist.
boring song
this song terrorize my ears

Feeble! Feeble lyrics, feeble voice, worse than feeble, bad voice. The worst type of pop ( oh, shit then the whistle?!)
Sounds like the Shins on Steroids.

I disagree. I know nothing about this singer/writer, but I think these are some of the most charming lyrics I've heard from someone new in a long time. "I'm turning Madonna down I think it's my best move..." It's a serious song, but the guy has a sense of humor. How can you not smile at that?
I agree with your disagreement.

Uggh again. How about "Badly Written/Played/Sung Song"?
The melody and arrangement are relatively clever and complicated, and the performance is pretty clean. The vocals are on-key. So next time just say "I don't like it", 'cause I'm guessing that's what you really meant.
Badly composed lyrics. (Madonna? Sinatra? What is this, People magazine?)
not an over the top great song, but i happen to really listen to the lyrics this time around...makes me like it.
weak voice
great song

bored now

I'd recommend Hour of the Bewilderbeast or maybe the About a Boy soundtrack before this album (although I flat out love this song).
It overstays its welcome by at least two verses. #-o

Oh, come on. "If there's a rock and roll heaven, you know they've got a hell of a band."
badly drawn boy - It reminds me of my first year @ the university and @ the apartment I lived. Darn "Hour of the bewilderbeast" is nostalgic, and this is great as well, christ /me love this god.
Re The Thunder Road upload below. Got reasonable votes on the LRC, not the backlash I expected. Still got bumped though. I have seen speculation as to why even high yes votes get bumped. Maybe it is also to do with how fast the positives / negatives roll in.
brought a tear to my eye when I saw him play this live and he switched out the words a bit: "I remember doing nothing on the night Elliot Smith died."
Badly Done Robyn Hitchcock imitation.
Just uploaded BDB's version of "Thunder Road" Hope it gets added to the RP playlist I love Springsteen also, but I can't wait for the "how dare he", "take it off", backlash.

These are the most sophomoric lyrics I've ever heard. Did he write this in the bathroom?
nice. i love this band. my only complaint is the fact that curt cobain was mentioned before john lennon. blasphemy, i say. blasphemy.

I get what you mean, but does anyone else think his voice is remarkably like Robin (Robyn) Hitchcock? That's who I thought it was when I first heard this on the radio.
does anyone hear a tad of "I was so much younger then, I'm older than that now"?
This whole CD is wonderful. More Badly Drawn Boy!
Can someone upload 'once around the block' please? And make it snappy ;)
I actually quite like this - I was never a fan of his stuff, but I can now see a 'place' for it, if anyone knows what I mean :) I saw him playing at the Move 'music event' in Manchester UK (NOT a festival, because obviously They didn't like the sound of that :S) - whilst he seemed a little drunk he was still very good. Please keep playing it!
