You said I'm gonna buy this place and burn it down
I'm gonna put it six feet underground
You said I'm gonna buy this place and watch it fall
Stand here beside me, baby, in the crumbling walls

Oh, I'm gonna buy this place and start a fire
Stand here until I fill all your heart's desires
Because I'm gonna buy this place and see it burn
And do back the things it did to you in return

You said I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
Oh, and I'm gonna buy this place is what I said
Blame it upon a rush of blood to the head

Honey, all the movements you're starting to make
See me crumble and fall on my face
And I know the mistakes that I've made
See it all disappear without a trace
And they call as they beckon you on
They say start as you mean to go on
Start as you mean to go on

Said I'm gonna buy this place and see it go
Stand here beside me, baby, watch the orange glow
Some'll laugh and some just sit and cry
You just sit down there and you wonder why

So I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
And I'm gonna buy this place is what I said
Blame it upon a rush of blood to the head
Oh, to the head

Honey, all the movements you're starting to make
See me crumble and fall on my face
And I know the mistakes that I've made
See it all disappear without a trace
And they call as they beckon you on
They say start as you need to go on
As you mean to go on
As you mean to go on

So meet me by the bridge
Meet me by the lane
When am I gonna see that pretty face again?
Oh, meet me on the road
Meet me where I said
Blame it all upon a rush of blood to the head

Good Tune!
Really enjoyed Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head when they were released.  Played the heck out of those cd's at the time.  But now...find them to be pretty stale.  And the new Spheres album is just dreadful.  So, what does all that mean?  Not sure.  I just think that some music exists in the moment.  That it reflects the culture and feeling of the world at the moment.  And I think that Coldplay hit that planetary tuning fork just so.  They found some sympathic natural harmony that allowed for their success.  But now...it just comes across as tripe.  Sorry boys...ya had your moment...and that moment has passed...
Alright, alright. I give up. Coldplay are actually pretty good.
Fantastic! I don't know if this is from the show in Atlanta but I was there and Chris Martin was running around the stage and climbing up on things like a madman. He was singing so hard and running out of breath with all the theatrics. This was the first song they performed - then three more before they stopped and Chris said hello to the crowd. Great concert.
After 17 years I just realized this song sounds like Champagne Supernova Part II.
Not whine but shine
Really really like this band. Love to hear good positivity. We need more of this but they seem to have gotten sold out. Like money and fame got to them. They just don’t seem to whine as bright as they did .

From their first records on (I used to be an early fan) I liked Johnny Buckland's  guitar playing for the unagitated manner.
Until I thought about it and came up with the solution he is just a bad guitar player, because more or less he is doing the same simple things over and over again. plusminus some echo-y stuff... anybody noticed that as well?
Said that I kinda feel sorry. I am not a hater, I was just so disappointed at least since Viva la Vida as I seriously enjoyed Parachutes and Rush :-/
The whole concert's pretty cool.

Oh bullshit.  You, and many others,  are just jumping on a "I Hate Coldplay" bandwagon started by some useless celebrity.
I have to say that the studio version is a bit better than this particular one but I did see them do this song in Atlanta in '03. It was the first song. The music soared, filled the place and the people. The energy was was awesome.

I agree, Coldplay sucks, this song is 'probably' good because it sounds like Even Less by Porcupine Tree, otherwise it would suck too
I miss the earlier Coldplay like this - seemed more intimate and more sensitive and less rah-rah everyone sing along in a pub.

Chris Martin gets hammered for his lack of macho posturing that is so common in rock. He doesn't sing with a lascivious leer or snarl (thankfully, he doesn't have the nasal voice of Deathcab, the Decemberists and countless others).
His band doesn't do cynicism or irony. Top it off with top of the charts success and a celebrity marriage and you get all this hate. A Rush of Blood is their highpoint and sadly their last record or two have been pretty damn weak. Coldplay does happy pop. They should have been born 20 years sooner–they'd have been perfect for the 80s.

the original is a really good song, but this is one of the most pointless recorded live versions I've ever heard of any song, ever

Crikey!!  That's the most lethargic live song I've heard in ages.

Or even more so. Things become popular for a reason. Sometimes that reason is even quality. That is the case with much of the great "classic rock" that gets slammed here because "Clear Channel plays it." That might well be the case with Coldplay. . . .
I like that song Yellow.

i don't hate it because it's popular. i hate it because it's boring. sounds like bob seger's "turn the page" with a guitar lick stolen from 1993 radiohead. snore.
MakeColdPlayHistory.
Wow, didn't realize there was a live album; love bands that actually sound better live than studio... thank's Bill.
At least they are successful in generating strong reactions! I personally find it enjoyable enough. I don't own any but its not horrible...

Christ when he's not singing like Kermit the frog...he's singing flat...like the music though.

Just what I was thinking.
I love the original so much. This version tests my patience for several reasons, all of them amounting to lesser quality in comparison. And of cource, that makes me mad I'm not hearing the original. Which I am. Mad, that is.
Two 10's. EMS-RCD, and CP- AROBTTH!
These guys write sleepy, dreamy music. I think next to Bryan Ferry, these guys own the genre. Great stuff.
Geez, why so much raggin on Coldplay? First, there have been a ton of great bands that have been huge commercial radio successes. Anyone heard of The Who? Led Zeppelin? REM? U2? Getting airplay on Clear Channel doesn't mean you suck. Even the general public gets it right sometimes. Second, there have been a ton of great bands that have had cryptic or plinky lyrics. REM again? Led Zeppelin again? Nirvana? Oh, and I like this live version. The intro guitar is pretty cool, very mood-setting.
i've seen them twice live - highly recommend it.
:sunny.gif:
One of the few Coldplay songs I still like. For some reason, even though I have both of their albums and have seen them live (amazing show), Coldplay just bores me. Their material does not age well for some reason, and I don't know why.
I'm gonna buy this, I'm gonna buy that. Good holiday tune. Buy.
I'm growing to like this band more than I initially thought possible. The sum seems to be more than the parts combined.
Excellent version of a superior song.

I usually can't stand coldplay,but I dig this song...Has a nice,radiohead-ish feeling
This is a good song, but I like the rest of the album better.
I just like em. simple, well constructed tunes and martin's voice ....work for me...and it's Friday :D
Can you guys rate a song without actually comparing it to something else? Coldplay is one of the best things that ever happen to world music in the last years. By the way, it seems that most of you are just watching too much tv...

Yeah, Dave Matthews meets U2. Since I don't listen to commercial radio and don't watch MTV, these guys haven't been pounded into my head at all. I've been through the Rush of Blood to the Head album several times and I sure do like it. My condolences to those who've become sick of it due to its commercial success.
I think I have heard about enough of htis song.
No one puts on a better show than this band--Chris Martin is SUPER talented---The management at First Avenue here in Minneapolis had to drag these guys off the stage!

When I first started hearing them, I thought they sounded a lot like U2. I couldn't put my finger on why. I thought it was a little in the "edge-like" guitar, and a little in the production. Me too. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought the singer had a touch of Bono to him, and the drumming/bassline on this song gives it a real U2 feel. I haven't given these guys a chance as of yet, even though a friend of mine swears that they are a quality outfit. Is this album alright? Your thoughts:
A timbre too much near the Dave Mathews (band).
Okay, yeah, it's official. I am totally bored with this band. Can we lay off for awhile?
Do they use some kind of computer program to write their lyrics? Sounds like they just random pick some word that ryhmes. I like the Monkees better.

Not bad. Martin doesn't sound like he can quite hit the high notes the way he does on the studio version though.

What? No one sued Coldplay for a crummy show. Believe me, they're an outstanding live band. I think Creed is the band you're thinking of. Several fans sued them because the lead singer was a drunken ass on stage and mumbled every lyric. How you get Creed and Coldplay mixed up, I'll never know. :-k
I absolutely agree with lindydallas, Coldplay are getting aired a little too much on RP lately :)
The applause of "live" versions hurts the music. This group took so long to get into the song that I had to turn RealPlayer off. Maybe I am too impatient and need to relax. But the word "langweilig" jumped into my mind. :meditate.gif:
