Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'

But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breaking my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you a sad girl
Don't be a bad girl

But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

Baby, I love you
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

Great song - but weird cymbals during chorus

I had this 45 as a kid. Always liked the emotion in his vocals, felt it as a child and still feel it 49 years later after hearing it hundreds of times. Guess it will never get old for me.

You had the 45? I'm shocked that it was even possible.  I hope that you eventually purchased the album! It was really good!

No ability in English either - it's correctly written as "you're an......"
My childhood wrapped in this album. My parents played it non stop. I became obsessed with the album cover, it's wonderful.

Sorry that it brings up bad emotions ... but music does that.  This song reminds me of a college "girlfriend" that manipulated me terribly, so I don't much care for it either.  It was one of her favorites.

Now I chuckle when I recognize the irony in the chorus: Oh baby baby it's a wild world, it's hard to get by just upon a smile.  Oh baby baby it's a wild world, I'll always remember you like a child, girl.

I do remember her as a child, and I hope she's learned how to get by on something other than her smile.
So few comments is surprising.  This album is on my top 20 albums when I am stranded on the desert island.

Couldn't agree more!  Same (except I splurged for the album).  Cat Stevens and Simon & Garfunkel were my go-to's when I needed to calm my teenage anxieties - and they still work for my 65-year-old anxieties.  How amazing is that!?
That vocal is so emotional and drives this masterfully written song into an ageless classic status

A truly emotive, insightful and relaxing track. Thanks R&B (Rebecca and Bill) of course!

Great song, great album !!

So happy to hear so much of Cat Stevens on RP lately.  Thank you.  What a beautiful artist.  His music was incredibly important to me in my formative years.  First (real) concert I ever went to at age 15.  (Got kind of high, regretted that, wished I had not, just so I could have had every moment of reality watching this master of poetry and music.)

Looks like your request was approved...I'm hearing it today (for the 1st time?) on the main playlist.  It's a 10.  For me and many out there who've had a younger girl move on in life.  And now that I'm older, the sentiment expressed in this song means even more to me...thankfully I'm not dealing with lost love anymore...Long Live RP!!
This morning I heard a punk-pop version of this from a band called Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies. It was fun and surprisingly good!
