On the afternoon
That the revolution began,
I was in a hotel pool with another kid
And an Australian business man.
And nothing there would make you say
After all so much talk, today would be the day...
Nothing but an upset tray
Left by the pool
This afternoon

An orange cup was thrown
From an upstairs room
A cherry bomb of giddy lust, I guess,
From a bride and groom.
And nothing there would make you say
After all so much talk, today would be the day...
Nothing but an orange cup
From an upstairs room
This afternoon

I've spent every long summer
Just this way
Since my mother started making up their beds
And learning to look the other way.
So what's one more drunk businessman
Coming on to me in the shallow end?
Nothing there would make you say
After all so much talk, today would be the day...

Listen

What's another slogan mean
Scrolled across my TV screen?
What's another bride and groom
Locked up in a fancy room?
What's one more drunk businessman
Coming on to me in the shallow end
This afternoon?

Caterwauling from Ani DiFranco it would seem. Hopefully this session has now reached its lowpoint.
Well . . . it made me listen. Actually I can see exactly why this is either a love it or hate it song by the comments below and the (current) 5 rating. . . Let's face it - that's one of the reasons we are listening. . . for Bill's musical burps away from nice and safe stable fodder. . . and finding new stuff as well as the stuff we like. Ramble over. . . :)
First Tori destroying Bossa Nova and now this average Joe..what is next??

does anyone else hear sting in this song? i don't think i like it.
Yeah, he definitely does uses similar vocal inflections. But Sting has better tone/control.
Getting REAL sick of hearing this one.
OMG!!!! The very first time a song made me clicking on the little "x" in the upper right corner... HORRIBLE NOISE!!!

This sounded like multiple songs playing simultaneously at the end. Thought something was wrong with my PC. I can't rate this until I give it another listen.
just think of it as getting more songs in, in the time it normally takes to listen to just one
Somehow, given the intro, if I'm not looking at "Now Playing" I'm apt to be expecting Sade.

That's a nice little catchy horn line.
There's a horn line in there? I must have tripped over it.
Erm...sorry...no.
Kind of intriguing. Moody and experimental. Made me stop and listen. Interessting!

That's the part I liked.
I really like this; nice and bleak. I'd like to read the lyrics, so I get get a better idea of what he's actually singing. And, I don't mind the jazzy discordancy at the end.
Uhhh.......nope, not for me.

I think I am having an epileptic fit. Ah good, the song is over and I am back to just a slightly annoying tic.
I'm sorry, did I stumble into the "Kooky Music Hour?" I haven't processed the last five songs very well. :-s
That's a nice little catchy horn line.

I thought the same thing, definite Sting sound. I'm still undecided about whether I like it or not.
