And after all we're only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows it's noz what we would choose to do.
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
moved from side to side.
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who.
Up and down.
But in the end it's only round and round.
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
The poster bearer cried.
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside.
"I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short,
sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off
lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners
don't cost nothing do they, eh?"
Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about.
With, without.
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?
Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind.
For the want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died.
--
The lunatic is on the grass.
The lunatic is on the grass.
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs.
Got to keep the loonies on the path.
The lunatic is in the hall.
The lunatics are in my hall.
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
"I can't think of anything to say except...
I think it's marvelous! HaHaHa!"

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."
Don't worry, If you think about it long enough, it will come to you...
Terrible day at the office today, but Pink Floyd and my headphones convinced me to stay and extract all the joy from Us and Them yet again.
I keep thinking that too, 47 years and counting....uncountable listens attentive each time new nuance. Passed it on to the kids and grand kids, not sure they get it...yet! Hopeful!

You've got that wrong, 1973, 1974, 1975,1976, 1977, etc and so on, every year until the end of "Time"
I guess, you youngsters no longer grock the concept of an "Album" What a shame!
Queue Eclipse.
Perfect choice for the preview to the movie that shall not come out in 2020 because why would it. This year official has suck to all new lows. But man oh man, that preview with Eclipse playing is truly righteous.
Thanks RP for everything!

Thanks a bunch Bill!
And I would.
If I could.
But I can't.
So I shan't.
Darn't.
And what four months head revealed. If I had told you when you wrote your entry, you would not have believed it.
Most compared to this is just drivel.

I don't understand that. I can understand not liking it, but Sucko-Barfo? Really?

My rating is 9 - O U T S T A N D I N G
LOL, three thumbs down for a 9! Sorry mateโฆ

... and I recall listening to Nicky Horne on Capital Radio (London) playing the whole of Wish You Were Here (pre-release) at a similar time of night, having said 10 mins previously 'you can start setting your levels up now'. I really didn't know what he meant

I used to record Nicky Horne's show each evening onto cassette and listen to it the next morning (3.00am) as I drove to work.
|I recall the time when had been to the off licence and as he left one of the bags broke and out of all the purchases he had made, it was the expensive brandy that smashed on the pavement.
Almost; side B of the record starts with "Money"
It's also the point in the movie "The Wizard of Oz" when the Technicolor scene first starts....among the more interesting coincidental parts of TWoO + DSotM.

Time keeps
flowing like a river.
to the sea,
to the sea.....
I can see Alan Parsons lyrics fitting in this one too.
well said... 9 -- 10

Welcome to the club!
And it's SO cool having tracks 6-9 played at once (or 7-10 on the newer CDs) - Any Colour You Like is one of my favorite tracks to play LOUD with the good speakers...total trip...and some of Nick's best work. 11!!
And BillG - I'm right there with you....I imagine I'll never stop enjoying this album, maybe when I'm dead....Long Live RP and DSoTM!!

This is simply a masterpiece.....
The neat thing about those "lyrics" is that they aren't lyrics, not really. It's kind of a funny bit of trivia.
Is this sequence related to today's tragic event in Florida? Gun references alternating with hopeful ones?
Let me know if I should change my handle to 'mistress of the obvious'!
Us & Them
Revolution No. 9
Brain Damage
Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major, K. 331: I. Andante grazioso
Eclipse
btw google Us and Them to Eclipse: this comments page is the #1 hit.

It just never gets old.
Only if we work at it, it would seem. As arguably the highest of primates, it's amazing how much more primitive than our evolutionary family members we can actually be.
Tears every time. I can't ever say what my favorite song is, but this one makes every cell in my body pay attention.
Funny story, one time I didn't realize I'd left my stereo with remote speakers outside on, and volume fairly high. And connected to the computer that automatically starts RP at 5 in the morning. At about 5:15 I woke up to someone's radio blasting outside and thought 'well at least they have taste'. When I realized it was me and raced out to turn it off, I couldn't. What if someone else was enjoying it? So I stood there with bathrobe on and faded it out on the closing heartbeat.
Anyway, there are a few 10's in my list. This is 10+.
I'm sure we're many like you, and I just stopped everything for 10 minutes !

I half suspect that DSOTM was something of a musical dark comedy, or a tone poem for humorous cynics. Nonetheless, it's a 20. Too much is not enough.
weed, wine, and dark side. Thought I was traveling to heaven...yikes!

Same here....although a few years later...and presumably a MUCH louder and CLEANER sounding car stereo....I actually still get goose bumps when I hear Any Colour You Like, which I know as Track 7, but that damn remastered CD added a track in the intro...so it's 8 on the newer discs. Seriously, I did not realize how awesome a great stereo was until I heard this CD and OMFG. Time BUMPS like crazy, and again, I just loved the dynamic range, stereo separation and clear highs on Any Colour You Like.
Kudos to BillG for the combo tracks of DSOTM. It's really amazing to think how UNDERPLAYED this album is in my life and I've heard it at least 500 times if not more. I think I could listen to it in full weekly if not daily. This is the peak, the benchmark which ALL OTHER bands had to look up to and say "well shit I don't think we're that good but let's try it anyways"
Also...no other album have I purchased more times than this one. Twice on LP, once on cassette, no 8track cuz it was dead by my time, at least 3 CDs and I even bought it in digital format.
LONG LIVE RP and PF!! RIP Syd and Richard. PEACE
Oh...when I get off work in 15 minutes I'll be enjoying some Amnesia Haze
Again, if the tour gets through to your neck of the woods and you're remotely curious and have the coin for tickets, I would strongly, strongly urge you to go.
Or maybe I'm just becoming an old sap. Either way, it was a hell of a show.

Wrong album. That comes later.
Hong Kong Diesel
Most stations would just try to play ONE of these tracks which of course, is impossible to do without cutting it off and completely ruining it - so what the hell - stick the 4 tracks together and play all of them so people can hear them the way the band intended?
Who cares that it equates to about 17 minutes of airplay time when it's 17 minutes of utter UTTER brilliance from the best album ever.
Completely sublime and always makes my day when I hear it - top work Radio Paradise :)
