Nice but can we hear the original??  No more covers!
Makes me want to get out and shred some wave 🌊! Something I haven't done since my early 20s!
Sounds like the Ventures !

To clarify. Dick Dale was left handed & played a left handed bodied stratocaster. He then strung it upside down to be correct for a right handed player.

They were doing opposite to eachother. Confused? Welcome to my world!
The GREAT Dick Dale - RIP!

Tricky Dick put it all to rest.

Heard a dj on WFMU a couple of years ago do a really feep dive on dick dale.was rather interesting
GREAT!!!!  Iconic tune, done very well!!

No, Jimmy Hendrix played a right handed Stratocaster flipped around but the strings were re-strung. I read that Jimmy also knew how to play right-handed as demanded by his father. Albert King however played like Dick Dale on a right handed guitar strung upside-down. I imagine this to be very hard to learn since everything has to be done in reverse and self-taught.

Much as I hate to be pedantic, that's not quite right. Hendrix played mostly right-handed guitars, but strung for left handed playing. So he'd take a regular guitar, turn it over, and string it so that the low E string was at the top for him.
Dick Dale's way is very odd indeed!

Correct, Hendrix thought the left handed bodies were sub-par, but hadn't really played one. Clapton has a Laft handed body he bought to give him to prove they were fine, and the night Hendrix died he told him he needed to get with him for a gift he had for him.
Just enjoy this animal - no need to dissect it folks!
Truly Great Version of the punch delivered by a gutsy guitar

Fastest is good for sprint races not necessarily for guitar songs!

Dick plays left hand. He also plays with the strings reversed for a leftie.(the strings are correct for a right hander playing his guitar). This is a seriously weird way to play. I know because I play the same way & never fail to get weird looks & comments at gigs. It also contributes to his unique sound. The upstroke hits the fat E string first. & his style favours the lower strings. I want dibs on any old guitars he wants rid of!

I saw him live in Adelaide in the 90's. Ears are still ringing.

My eldest is a lefty and wanted a left handed guitar when he was in his early teens.  I insisted that he learn right handed as there are hundreds, thousands probably, of rh guitars in many households just sitting around.  Now the @#$# can outplay me any day and also plays fiddle and piano.  Never seen a lefty piano!

RIP (1937 - 2019)
There are probably a bazillion covers of this. I ought to google it and find out. I do like the one The Outlaws offered up one of their albums after their debut classic in the mid '70s.
Sounds like a bloke down the pub who has learned to play REALLY fast.
This one after Crazy Horse! What a set this fine afternoon! :)
Love surf music - love Dick Dale!
damn, that's a good song...

Dick Dale's Ghost Riders on the heels of Mathias Duplessy's Crazy Horse...whew! I need a nap.
Dick Dale - he is a CLASSIC!  So great to hear this fantastic surf music trend setter!

I've caught him live 3 times over the past 4 years down here in Florida.  Sad to hear that he is touring so much to pay medical bills, but I am lucky I get to see him live so often.   And don't think he has slowed down because of his illness; his shows are hard rocking and he delivers.  Amazing man.

He toured up here in Chicago in early October. What he lacked in performance on the guitar due to his ailing health, he made up for in storytelling that was well worth the price of admission. Its not from a youth of debauchery, merely Father time. Support him while we still can.

Dick Dale helped Leo Fender develop the first reverb in amplifiers to capture a sound he imagined in his head but there was no equipment to reproduce at the time. He's a pioneer. You can simply turn that knob on your Mesa Boogie because Dick Dale came up with the idea back when your parents were probably still in grade school.

Yeah, that's tough to do.

He uses a reverb tank, not the amp reverb. Heavy strings, a loud clean sound, and percussive style probably help to enhance the feel of reverb too.
For me, that was too long. Besides, Johnny Cash did it right.

I saw an interview with him once. He only refers to himself in the 3rd person. I have a tough time giving him as much credibility now.
