These guys I love.  I love 'em because they grew up.  They evolved.  They kept their shit innovative and rocking over the past THREE DECADES and while their straight up rap ain't for everyone they've done, in my eyes, as much as any band since The Beatles to grow with the times surrounding them.

I was a teen rockin' it with License to Ill but I realized a few years later that their music of that time was pretty sophomoric in content.  And so, I started to grow away from it... but then I noticed that those guys were chasing me.  With Check Your Head and Paul's Boutique these guys showed that they were way more than just the fumbling, druken, moderately skilled rappers of their twenties.  They started to play real music.  And produce some real soulful, funky rhythms that have truly grown up and grown with me.  Give thanks!

Bump ^
WOW....don't recall EVER hearing BB on RP....very nice!  Let's get a few other tunes from this album going too (definitely their best).
Beasties on RP!  Yeah!

Cool, cool, cool.  And yes, they were just kinda silly rappers 25 years ago but dudes grew up and became fantastic musicians all around.  Kinda like some young blokes from England that were just putting out pure pop music for a while that got them to the top of the world then they matured and let their music change with them...  What fun.  Great sounds.

RIP MCA.

A close second to Paul's Boutique.
I missed these guys when they first came out.  I thought they were rap/hip hop guys and I hated all rap/hip hop.

Turns out I was way wrong on both counts.  I started listening to 'em in the late 90's and I luv 'em now.

Better late than never....I guess.

BTW...Their music is awesome to listen to in the gym.

best b boys album imho.
This is almost kind of Zappa-ish which probably why I like it ...
Never heard this song here. 3 thumbs up and will rate a 10.

So what song by RUN DMC sounds like this?
Drummer sounds a lot like Yuval Gabay of Soul Coughing but apparently it's not.

Nice little tune to build web pages to, anyway.

For more Beastie goodness in addition to the aforemention "The In Sound From Way Out" compliation, their release of just a couple of years ago "The Mix-Up" is their first all-instrumental album and is very much worth a listen.

Pinch me am I dreaming? And yes, I agree we need more Beasties. Hey, I'm a baby boomer (yuck!!) and I LOVE em, always have, always will...
Is this their out take of an out take of a rejected unfinished jam for the rare cuts and out takes record?

It's not worthy of inclusion anywhere else.

A total of one Beasties tune on the RP playlist? C'mon people, let's upload some more stuff with groove!

Wow, these guys really blow. :puke: Absolutely no redeeming qualities of their music. I don't understand why Bill plays crap like this?
Awesome.

That's very cruel Makadar. You are old, too, Mister Born in the Era of Polyester Pantsssssss.
once again... did the double-take to see if itunes had started playing my own playlist for some reason.
Man, there must be a blue moon tonight... Beasties on RP!?!?

I'm hearing some similarities to "Block Rockin' Beats" which I think (not sure) was Chemical Brothers? In any case an inspired seque from the CB's Surface to Air.
About goddamn time some Beastie Boys showed up here on RP. "Check your head" is an absolutely stellar album, which I listened to endlessly in my early 90's. And still do on occasion, when I want to get my groove on! :dancingbanana: :guitarist: :devil_pimp:

Paul's Boutique was certainly ahead of its time, but I would say it has not aged well. Check Your Head has held up better so far.
Both albums are excellent. Paul's Boutique, way ahead of its time, took sampling to its zenith, imo. Still sounds timeless to me.
Funkeh!!!
good choice!
 Agreed on this being one of their better albums.
What a surpurb choice! Always wondered when you would spin a song from the boys. Respect.
not annoying for a change
Now I see where Kanno got the inspiration for yet another one of her GitS tracks! =) Great beats.
holy crap- these guys are f u n k y diggin' it  b a b y

Hear, hear. Although they inexplicably and unforgivably excluded what I consider to be their best instrumental -- "Futterman's Rule" on Ill Communication -- from that collection.
more beastie boys please! :bounce:

Never really listened to the Beastie Boys, but I really like this... made me stop what I was doing to see who it was. Could be a Starsky and Hutch theme song. Very cool!

Biggy up yourselves, RP - some bboys jams are welcome here anytime! (especially to offset the crap woosy music that you insist upon)
