Say you do
Say you don't
Say you will
Say you won't
Believe in the great expanse
All or nothing
Salute to chance

Sail the course for the unknown
Stacks of change
Thrown into the tolls

The rules haven't changed
It's just the same garbage war we're sitting in

Really not mad at anyone
You're just mad at the world
Break it apart and take it down
Just mad at the world

Hanging on to a life vest
Clockwork closed
The way the weary rest
Stare down the stretches that remain
Pylons and barricades
Nothing to contain

Aftershock
The daily din
Metals and monsters sing when they're invited in

That says more about Jay Farrar than it does about Son Volt.

well...have you been to Belleville?

Belleville, IL.  Hometown to Jay, and Jeff T.

You should go there.

Drink Stag beer.
Jay Farrar has a very distinct vocal sound and style.
and I like it.
I really like it.
Fuck Spotify…
Why is this song not available on Spotify?

Jay Farrar is one of my favorite songwriters. He has a style.

Probably when you hear John Fogerty, all you hear is CCR.

Jay can really get in there and claw at my heart sometimes. Such raw feelings communicated so remarkably well!
It's that Belleville, IL sound...him and Jeff Tweedy.

Very close but very different.
Jay always sounds great… Son Volt - Uncle Tupelo Great stuff…

Not to take anything away from Jay Farrar, but I’d love to hear Anders Parker on Radio Paradise. Not sure I’ve ever heard Anders on RP, but when I hear Jay, I always hope to hear an Anders song soon.

Anything from Tell it to the Dust, his first solo, even Varnaline Songs. Dig them all. Also his combo with Jay, New Multitudes.
A fantastic album and this tune is one of my favorites. I have been mad at the world and am trying to get over it. This sounds like he has.

Love this song and title, 9.  Sounds like someone who sees the world more clearly is trying to help someone who's stuck. Changing your perspective is a little like correcting a vitamin deficiency. Reminds me a lot of talking to my niece. 200mg SAMe and 5000iu vit D plus K for absorption really helps with no downside.

Now I'm wondering how many of our "modern anger problems" are due to simple chemical imbalances. People have always been driven by fear, but maybe there is something new going on besides tailor made news. Could vit D save the world?

You could be easily broken down. You're not right.
Love Mr Farrar's vocal sound. His talent first revealed to me by RP of course, with the band Son Volt... never tire of it.
Listen to this song 3 times. Brilliant

Huh.  A new one for me.  Poignant today.
Not my favourite set so far.  Struggling to listen to this little lot.

Radiohead — Supercollider
The American Analog Set — Hard to Find
Florence and The Machine — What the Water Gave Me
Jay Farrar — Vitamins

All I need now is Neil Young and my day will be complete.

Great song.  I love the drums (especially the snare) on this track.

I don't know Son Volt that well...I was guessing Steve Earle...This is pretty cool.
Sounds like the vitamins were to keep him awake while singing this track - they barely worked!
Nice after Pattys nice song!
Play Barstow, the best cut on Sebastapol.
Fantastic song...
Nice. One listen and put it right on my, " Buy List."

Distinctive is right — no matter if he's with a group or solo, his voice always sounds "whiney" to me....blah!  Too bad, it takes away from the music part, which is actually nice on this track.

Bob Dylan & Neil Young think it's just fine to have an easily identifiable "whiney" voice.  I agree with them.

Uncle of Ricky Fataar.
Thanks for the laugh...made my day:

"Really not mad at anyone
You're just mad at the world"

I'm trying not to be that person anymore, maybe that's why I like this song. I like most anything the Uncle Tupelo boys do though.

bet you like Pearl Jam, same sounding voice....IMHO

It may be that the whole appeal of alt-country and its predecessors is that it's a little OFF. Maybe that's what sounds good to some of us.  I don't hear the flatness in the voice, but I think I understand when you say "dissonant harmonies." Meaning imperfect harmonies? I like that.

Wow, been too long since I've listened to this great song from Jay's 1st solo album.  Was somewhat underwhelmed by the album but always loved this song big time.

This song suddenly made me feel like I was at Grateful Dead concert.  Not sure why other than Jay's voice reminds a bit of Phil Lesh.
Not bad.....it's called Vitamins?
I've always appreciated Son Volt but was never much of a fan (just didn't really grab me). But this one is really nice. I like the way the song is constructed. Or something like that . . .

Yeah, plus the drumming takes some chances, and Farrar for once stretches himself as a singer. Interesting track. Wonder what it means.

Do like this, but makes me want to break out my old trace or straighaways cds :-)

Yep, I said to myself - Sun Volt! as soon as I heard this. He's got a really distinctive voice.

Have an orange-juice, Jay.... you need vitamins! bore-bore-bore! There's nothing to explain "their" insider-fame! Stingray!
Knew I recognized that voice from somewhere(s)! I do miss Tupelo, but this stuff is pretty killer...

Jay Farrar and Wilco in the same set--wonderful.
I love this, love his voice. Different from Son Volt and Uncle Tupelo, but still....Jay. Gotta check out the rest of this album...

Jeff evolved into different genres, Jay evolved around the same genres as UT. I like Wilco a lot, but it's Son Volt and JF CDs that I pull out ten times more often. As a whole, Jay's lyrics aren't any more depressing as Jeff's.

You are kidding, right? Depression Rock is the hottest non-Britney category out there.
I just love this guy's voice.

Wow, I obvioulsy knew it was Jay by the voice but the sound was awesome. Has like an Indian trippy sitar thing going on in there. Good stuff, I'll have to check out some solo work.
Nice sound. Never heard of...

He sounds a lot like They Might Be Giants with a little bit more of a rock edge.
I like Jay's writing a lot.

Son Volt and Uncle Tupelo
Jay already won me over with Tupelo and SonVolt. His sometimes oblique songwriting depths become spirtually uplifting .

I always wonder how people who are not the greatest singers, can still make great music..... think about Lou Reed.... This is just wonderful....
Somehow, the vocals remind me of Tom Petty. Very subtlely. Perhaps he should cover this.
Dang, this seems to be moving .... score me interested .... like the sitar flavors ....
good stuff
Yahoo, I loooooove this album! great for a road trip. I think it's been my favorite album since it came out. More, more!
Wow... I\'d hear Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt, but not Jay Farrar solo... I kinda like it; --d
Is it just me or does this guy sound just like Hayden? (The singer from Toronto, not the composer...) Perhaps Bill could play \"Bad as it seems\" for a compare-and-contrast?

i think sebastopol is a bit of an aquired taste. i'd start with "trace" by son volt, jay's band (are they still together?). anyway, it'sa classic, and after that get their sophomore album, "straightaways." they're both outstanding.
at least bill likes SOMETHING i uploaded!
