great idea. that's a wonderful song. i'm all for hearing some hip hop on RP. not a whole ton, but a bit won't harm anything. hip hop is music, too, and it deserves some kind of recognition. i don't know a whole ton of good hip hop, so i'd love to be exposed to some quality stuff. none of this "crazy town" crap. something that i haven't heard before would be nice. heh.
Where's that dancing banana! \:D/

them's fightin' words. good job, chief. :war:
I like the latin rhythm and trumpets etc. but these squeaky voices

No jodas guey !!!
This song gets played too frequently. Doesn't this group have another song? This one tends to get obnoxious, but I do like parts of it.

It is always interesting to read some of the comments that are posted by RP listeners. I am glad that most are open minded enough to hear something different and not rip it to shreds, I personally like to hear the different genres. Variety is the "spice of life" people. Enjoy!
Pardon me, but just because I or others "rip it to shreds" does not, in fact, make us close-minded. I would argue that judgment statements like yours, which try to pigeonhole people based on personal values, are more indicative of close-mindedness. Living in Tucson, I hear considerably more music of this genre than most people, so this is not "different"...and I am as open-minded as they come. I simply don't like this song.

Please define "real rock," por favor. And I don't think that's a goose.

I take some pride in having about 1/4 of my uploads accepted. Some people are insulted to have a song turned down but not me. I don't upload things I don't like, just to be a punk, either. But in the time I've been listening, the station's gotten better (according to me!) so Bill's no dictator, he does take our input seriously. Especially in the area of how much Grateful Dead I should have to hear! Now, I hope that one day I'll trip over some extra money and send it in.
i completely agree, man. i listen to rp because bill plays some stuff i'd have no way of hearing otherwise. i don't want to hear rap all day either, but maybe if a little was squeezed in some people might hear a little something they might not of heard otherwise. i'm even having a hard time finding songs to upload that i think "fit-in" to rp, so i can understand the dearth of hiphop on the playlist. but sometime songs turn up that i think would be perfect, so now all i have to do is wait for bill to think the same thing. i mean, damn, i can't even get any afghan whigs up in this piece... :D

And it is work. Maybe just start with REM's Radio Song, with KRS-One.

totally cool :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :moon:  :D   :bounce: :bounce:
A. some of the songs veer towards an "urban" edge. rp plays a lot of songs incorporating hiphop, and "techno" type music as well, which owes a lot to hiphop. rp plays reggae as well, which has a pretty strong connection to hiphop. this seems like an obvious opening. i can understand a certain aversion to this kind of music, but it's just mtv and radio supported ignorance. and how will you ever learn to appreciate a genre of music if you dismiss it without giving it a chance? B. i know there are hiphop stations out there. but i like the challenging nature of rp. i think rp could work some (occasional) stuff in. i'm not talking jay-z or 50 cent (even though i think these guys have merit), and i'm not talking about every other song, but some more musically inventive stuff every once in awhile. it's out there, believe it or not. there's more to hiphop than puffy and ja rule, despite what commercial radio might have you believe. C. down by law is a film by jim jarmusch. you should check it out, good stuff. i'm going to keep uploading songs, and bill can dump them at will. but ima keep trying, and maybe something will slip through. i understand rp isn't a democracy, and maybe bill just doesn't like hiphop (which i totally respect) but i'm going to keep bugging him (and all of you), so get used to it.

This is why I listen to RP. I\'m pretty sure I\'d never hear this on a local radio station, and I know I\'d never buy the album on my own. But I love experiencing music that\'s new to me, and this certainly qualifies.
Started to hate it with the hip-hop rap sound, then I heard the horns and they kinda drew me in. I wouldn\'t mind hearing it again. :bounce:

As you can tell when he tries to work Scorpions or country music or jazz into the mix, some people just don't get it, no matter how hard he tries to make a segue that illuminates.. This is, in the end, a white-boy rock station. You just gotta draw a line somewhere. Better to draw the line just this side of making a fool of yourself, i.e.: don't start playin' rap just 'cause you know you should and someone said "this is a good song." It's hard work being eclectic and having it all fit together. Praise Bill for not trying it if he doesn't think he can pull it off. We don't advocate tokenism, either, so don't say he should just play some and nevermind how it fits. It has to make sense. You are absolutely right that US-born hiphop is looked down on. Same thing by soft-spoken French girls gets respect. Go figure. But lots of people hear rap and they immediately pigeonhole it as it was in the beginning(whatever they thought at the time). It's hard for them to imagine that there might be an attitude about some of the music that fits perfectly well amongst the peace-lovin' groove that hangs over RP most of the time. New topic: Never hear Jimmy Buffet here either.

they may play instruments, but that doesn\'t mean they don\'t steal beats. and how do you know the lyrics aren\'t trash? i don\'t understand people\'s elitist stance on hiphop. if it\'s from another country, it MUST be valid, but stuff from our own country is shit. it doesn\'t hold any water when you take into account musicians (that\'s right, musicians) like aceyalone, dj shadow, the roots (who also play instruments), etc. and i don\'t want to exclude the \"mainstream\" acts that actually get airplay, either. outkast is amazing, early to mid 90\'s tribe called quest, de la soul, kool keith, epmd... i could go on...
At least these guys play instuments.I don\'t like the song but at least they are not stealing real musicians work and looping to lousy lyrics.

As I type this, we're hearing Toots and the Maytals. Maybe RP could work in some reggae "toasters" first.
