Songs when they're true are all dedicated to you,
and this invisible world i choose to live in.
And if you believe that then now i understand
why words mean so much to you:
'cause they'll never be about you.

And maybe you're young without youth,
or maybe you're old without knowing anything's true,
I think you're young without youth.

Then you contract the American Dream
you never look up once.
And you've contracted American Dreams,
I require you to stop and look up.

Sing a song about myself
keep singing a song about myself,
not some invisible world

Constantly searching to find something new,
but what will you find when you think that nothing's true?
Maybe it's that nothing is new.
So you let me hear songs that were written all about you
The good songs weren't written for you,
they'll never be about you.

Then you contract the American Dream
you never look up once.
And you've contracted American Dreams,
you never look up once, so dont look up.

Sing a song about myself
keep singing a song about myself,
not some invisible world.

Sing a song about myself
keep singing a song about myself,
not some invisible world.

And I won't tell you what this means
'cause you already know
And I won't tell you what this means
'cause you already know

So sing a song about myself
keep singing a song about myself
not some invisible world.

You came along and found the weak spot
That you always wanted
Let yourself be everything
That you've always wanted
It doesn't have to be so decided
But you've always wanted
No need for explanations
You've always wanted

You'll find what you'll find when you find there's nothing.
You'll find what you'll find when you find there's nothing.

yuck yuck yuck. Makes me want to die.
Well - this one did it. I'm clicking away to Pandora.
Really surprised and the harsh responses towards this song. It's not the greatest, but it's not *that* horrible either. All in all, I thought it was "pretty good".

I doubt that the 20% misses on the site keep you from donating. Compared to most radio where there is at best one decent song per three hours we have it made here.
i wish there was a zero rating.
Much better tracks on this album, a good band!
Insipid crud!
Now we have brit-pop's answer to Hootie and the Blowfish. Yuck! Yeah, big miss here.
I gave this one a Ho Hum not only for the song but the cover art as well.
Porridge-music, but no reason to swear about it. It's not that awful... besides, I'm trying to clean up my language.

I think it's just the accent but this reminds me of Paul Weller.
i'm with jersey girl. this is dreck.
Brilliant live band, much better tracks on this cd though!
Ponderous.

Is someone holding you at gunpoint and forcing you to listen to RP?
It's not my cup of tea, but it's followed by The Hip, so I feel better.

btw This song just went from 6 to 4

Nor commentary, apparently. Nothing wrong with a little MOR radio once in a while. Just not too much. Likeable tune.

This CD is now available on iTunes...
blah
Sounds like Third Eye Blind ...but after the singer smoked 5000 packs of cigarets.
I like this more as the song goes on, but I wasn't much for it when it first started.
Joe...Where are you from exactly? Curiously you don't specify If you are from England I would be horribly ashamed to talk about politics. The tune..It was ok..I found mediocre myself... joe1 wrote:

much like Morrissey, an excellent tune to hear mixed in with other stuff, though an album of it would be too much.

This was one of the first songs I heard on RP, and as such, has a lot of good karma. Love it.
This has grown about as tiresome as I expected it would, but it did take much longer to do so than I thought. Heh.

if you click on the "view more emoticoms" link, you can click on images and rp will insert the text code for the emoticom into your message. for an unknown reason, the basic "emoticoms" link doesn't come up as an actual link on mozilla on my imac running os x. the "more emoticoms" link, however, works fine.

that comment was extremely rude. the people who listen to RP do not represent 99.9% of america . therefore, one should not pass such a harsh judgement on a huge group of people based on a small group of people. guess what that's called? that's right, folks, bigotry. i'm canadian, and i find that comment extremely offensive. think about that for a second. also, just because someone happens to like GWB as a president , that doesn't mean that they're unintelligent. just because someone doesn't happen to like a band, that doesn't mean they "don't get it". it just means they don't like it. being judgemental is not good. condemning others for their opinions is also not good. i'm sure you're a perfectly fine person, i just wish that you weren't so quick to dismiss others like that. /end rant
reminds me of goo goo dolls... only slightly, tho. reminds me more of a band i accidentally downloaded once called "darwin park" - all their ID3 tags were labelled as matthew good band, and i was confused. heh. i kept the mp3s, tho, cause the songs were good. it just wasn't matt good. heh.

Following the AMG link from this comments board will fill you in pretty well, they're Scottish. (And I personally think this song is about those English who have been infected, as it were, but the gentrified values of capitalism and individualism usually ascribed to Americans. It does not, after all, appear to be about language, but more about a kind of cultural narcissism.) Yeah, you're probably right--we Yanks don't appreciate good music. I'm sure Brits have the monopoly on taste in that department. Also, I have a tiny mind. Okay. I'm persuaded. Not to mention intimidated--awed, even--by your mammoth intellect and rapier wit. Did that sound sarcastic?

However, I'm not a cryptographer, and maybe that's why I had so much trouble understanding what the hell you were talking about in your post. I like the song. I feel pretty relaxed today. By all means, let's make this song the impetus for a transatlantic pissing contest. Each country has brought the world more than its fair share of tastelessness, stupidity, inhumanity, and unapologetic brutality. Some people will love the song, some poeple--like me--will think it's okay, and some will dislike it, and none of those perceptions have a lot to do with what you're trying to link them to.
This song is off a mostly pretty rocking album.

Interesting that you follow Pearl Jam\'s Black with this. I saw Idlewild open for Pearl Jam this summer. They were fantastic.

Horse*^&# to that, the majority of the popular vote went against him; the Supreme Court appointed him our first hereditary King, given the Presidency by divine right and blood. I think it's this particular song. It's also getting a little too much play here. Maybe a little more variety. Sounds pretty much like any soft-pop.
Is this the whining, self-pitying, self-obsessed set for the day? When will it be over? This song at least has comprehensible lyrics, though, and guys who are really singing (or sing-talking), and they sound unambiguously like male singers. That is getting to be refreshing nowadays.

Great. Just what we need: more whiny, wussified 80\'s-style, narcissism.
I keep wanting this to be \"Sweet Child of Mine\" when I hear the opening chord. This is alright, but I do love that song.

This continues to grow on me. Nice punchy little hooks. As a singer I especially like it when he pops up into a higher octave on a single note in a line. Funky little touch that.
