People stand in line
People stand in line
People stand in line
A premonition of
The killer's angel eyes
The Armageddon sky
Tell it like it is
It's like the old man says
We're dead in the water now
Dead in the water

They come from miles around
They come from miles around
They come from miles around
In avarice and love
To suckle on the blood

Of some forgotten god
Sell it like it is
It's like the old man says
We're dead in the water now
We're dead in the water now
Dead in the water

A simple act of faith
A simple act of faith
A simple act of faith
A celebration of
The colour and the creed
The cancer and its seed
Crackles on the mic
Can call it what you like
We're dead in the water now
We're dead in the water now
Dead in the water

Whoa!  All of the comments are from 2008....  Guess this song has been outta circulation.  I landed here today after I hit PSD button.  Love this song!  {#Smile}
cool chord changes.
love his early stuff...but this is just using formula here. he should forget about the money and go for the art ...like he used to.
can't stand him or my morning jacket. they are both cut from the same cloth-- its called annoying.
Interesting segue. Nautical Disaster, then Dead In The Water.
great lyrics? this song is an uninterrupted line of cliches (and no accompanying irony)

I really love this album and this song, although it's not my favorite. David Grey is an amazing lyricist. I appreciate and relate to what he says too often to not really, really love what he does. (And that he did it independantly doesn't hurt any...)
Yeah, it's just a shame it's so hard to HEAR those amazing lyrics! I find him sooo hard to understand!

Hmn...? Kind a' fits how the afternoon feels here in these disUnited States. Don't really have an opinion re David Gray and this song as musically speaking these days everything on the radio (except Radio Paradise) sounds so much the same. All those cookie-cutter mixes and sound-alike artists keeping it all in bounds, making certain their music slides in beneath the "Clear Channel" radar or something. Not sure Gray's music rises much above the amalgamated mush down in the foxhole, but I'm open to what ya'll think. Yeah RP!
I think it does. Nothing spectacular, but definitely a cut above average. As to your larger point, it's not only music that's being driven to the lowest common denominator. Other areas of art have been experiencing the same for decades. There used to be thousands of independent publishers in the States where "non-commercial" authors could get their words in print. Now book publishing is controlled by a few companies and retail outlets, and only the "bestsellers" count. The same is true for television, movies, etc. It's all cookie-cutter now. The reason? Cash. In a commercial, profit-driven society, only the bottom line counts. However, the Internet provides an alternative. People are bypassing the publishers and writing on the Internet. Beautiful radio staions like Radio Paradise allow us to circumvent the schlock on commercial radio. The only problem is, its time will come too. The handful of corporations that control entertainment in the US today are busy working on how to take over and control the Internet, of course with the government's support and co-operation. Perhaps this is where the ultimate battle for freedom, not just musical freedom, will eventually be fought.

Went to see him in concert in Dublin. He played for 2 hours straight without taking a breath! I wasn't sure that the album would transition well into a live performance, but I am happy to say I was dead wrong. His music is unique- go see him!
I love David for his melancholy notes and superb lyrics! It would be great to hear some more from him. :goodvibes.gif:
although this cd can't top white ladder, lyrically it's quite good. Okay maybe you don't see in this track, but the cd was written after the loss of his father and touches upon issues that we can relate to. Not the best track on the cd, but i think it's still a good song.
Hmn...?
