Always love it when they miss the point.  Having a unique and enduring sound and not pushing the boundaries of that sound (which they have continued to do up to the present day) are 2 entirely different things.  But go ahead with the tired and vapid "U2 sucks and every song sounds the same" trope.  You'll certainly find many who share your unoriginal and ageist opinion on these boards.

I'm wondering where William Orbit is. After producing Madonna's Ray of Light (which was amazingly excellent), he was very popular for a little while, but then his signature sound somehow disappeared... PITY! He improves on the U2 song by about a factor four :-)

It's "broad appeal" music that makes tunes like Gates of Delerium and Anaesthesize so powerful.
