She went in and bought some bullets
But she didn't have a gun
There was a time when time was never ending
But that time is long gone
And the strangest things are gonna knock you down
Wasn't any one man seemed to do it
Just a series of losers on a losin' streak
She smoked a cigarette, slipped on her leather jacket
And left town singin' "Life's so bittersweet."
And the strangest things are gonna knock you down
The strangest things are gonna pick you up again
You can only get so far before you reach the ocean
Where do you go from there
You can't go back, now you've set the wheels in motion
Dark clouds on the horizon
Rain's good for leather anyway
She dreamt that night she could walk on water
And she just walked away
And the strangest things are gonna knock you down
The strangest things are gonna pick you up again
Strangest things

when will you low rating haters understand - the reasons for not liking a song don’t matter. This is all subject to so many factors that your intellect won’t understand the ins/outs. So my suggestion is - instead of spreading your ignorance and infection. Just hit fast forward and move on.

Yes..  Just hit skip and don't be a meanie.

I have never rated a song this low as far as I can remember. The Bee Gees have come and gone. I honestly do not like this song. I find it repetitive and boring. I wish it would come and go. Alas, skip forward works for me. Thanks for all the other music.

Compare & contrast helps illuminate the fine points.

is a pretty interesting way to start a song.

Reminds me of Nick Cave's mini novel in a couplet:

I left by the back door
With my wife's lover's smoking gun

"She went in and bought some bullets
But she didn't have a gun"
is a pretty interesting way to start a song.

As an old cowboy, this is interesting and is VERY reminiscent{#Bananajam} of Bob Dylan's album Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.

(Plus a small tinge of "Willy" thrown in for some extra flavor.

"Where's my horse?"

It is a "hommage" rather than a stealing...
Those times are coming back, they are, I swear. Recently, I learned more than I previously knew my entire life... and yet it's not much.

Sounding like Bob Dylan is no way to start a career in music, son

I didn't know this was Devlins, but as I was listening to it, I caught myself stopping what I was doing and murmuring, "Damn, I LIKE this!"

So - damn, I LIKE this!  And that it's Devlins only makes it better!  {#Sunny}
Very nice!

I just canceled my Sirius subscription because I never listen to it anymore, with RP rocking the house and all...

can't anybody on this thing just appreciate a band for it's own merit instead of comparing it to everything else?

Sometimes the sniping gets annoying to me, too, but at this point, after "one bourbon, one scotch, one beer" (hey, is there any George Thorogood on the playlist?) I say WTF!!

Really.
That intro conjured up one scene...
Mediocre schlepp fare. Cut it from the playlist.
I really enjoy it, but I have to agree he has a very Dylanesque singing style. 8 from me.
Some poor guy died in London after falling under a "Bendy bus" and getting dragged for a mile before anyone noticed...and you think you're having a bad day

edited much later to add: I've been listening to their latest CD (Waves) since I saw their concert last month...it is fantastic! and mine is autographed! buy it.
You're offering your autographed copy? I stand by my comparison to E and the Eels, moreso than Jacob and co. Most excellent.

Good stuff, but, I thought it was David Gray...
I had a chance to talk with these guys after their show last Friday...they're really nice. I do like their music - nothing really jumps out at you, but it feels really good on the ears. edited much later to add: I've been listening to their latest CD (Waves) since I saw their concert last month...it is fantastic! and mine is autographed! buy it.
Exactly, Wallflowerish. Country Lite. Ugh.
Too much like Dylan or the Wallflowers ....
Really pretty tune. The singer reminds me of 'E'. Like it.
One Bob Dylan is enough..Let's jazz it up a bit RP
bittersweet... just like life...
I\'m listening to RP for the first time today and just heard the Devlins for the first time in years. I bought Drift when it came out (\'93?) and think it\'s a great album, but honestly haven\'t heard from them since. Looks like they\'re doing just fine.

i think they sound like "the flying burrito brothers". the album just before gram parsons left and the next one after he left ("burrito deluxe"/"the flying burrito brothers"). chris hillman/ rick roberts enfluenced.
:) so true

Thanks. Thanks a lot.
This song has that insidious catchy tune feel. I like it. And I like that RP plays it \"often\", but not \"hourly\", like a catchy tune would be played on those other stations.
I like the song, but it has one thing it in that drives me insane - there is a \"chirping\" instrument in the background (probably a keyboard) that sounds just like my cell phone and every time I hear this song I find myself reaching for the phone. Arrggh
OK, OK, OK--that\'s at least four songs by the Devlins today; they\'re fine, but enough already!
Does anybody else think these guys sound like the Wallflowers? Or is it just me?
Draws me in from the very beginning. Lyric and mood flow seemlessly all the way through. Should hold up well on repeated listenings.
I\'m finding a lot of tunes on this site sound like either Pink Floyd or Radiohead. Sometimes both..
