Jodie wears a hat although it hasn't rained for six days
She says a girl needs a gun these days
Hey, on account of those rattlesnakes
Hey, on account of those rattlesnakes
She looks like Eve Marie Saint
In ''"On The Waterfront"''
She reads Simone de Beauvoir
In her American circumstance
She's less than sure if her heart has come
To stay in San Jose
And her neverborn child still haunts her now
As she speeds down the freeway
As she tries her luck with the traffic police
Out of boredom more than spite
She never finds no trouble, she tries too hard
She's oblivious despite herself
She looks like Eve Marie Saint
In ''"On The Waterfront"''
She says all she needs is therapy
All you need is love is all you need
Jodie never sleeps 'cause
There are always needles in the hay, hey
She says that a girl needs a gun these days
Hey, on account of all the rattlesnake
Hey, on account of the rattlesnakes
She looks like Eve Marie Saint
In ''"On The Waterfront"''
She reads Simone de Beauvoir
In her American circumstance
Her heart's like crazy paving
Upside down and back to front
She says ooh, it's so hard to love
When love was your great disappointment
Hey, on account of all the rattlesnakes
She says that a girl needs a gun these days
A girl needs a gun these days
Hey, on account of all the rattlesnakes

I really don't like this version - Lloyd Cole's original is so much better!
Oooh, what's that I see off in the distance? Oh yeah, it's Tori laughing all the way to the bank with no time for misogynist haters.
"I believe in peace, Bitch," - <3 Tori

I can think of five lloyd Cole songs that should be on this feed; Jennifer She Said, From the Hip, Rattlesnakes, Are you Ready to be Heartbroken, Mister Malcontent, Perfect Skin, Down on Mission Street, Lost Weekend... ...oh... that's eight...
Looks like nine now!

I don't celebrate Tori's entire catalogue (too many songs)
but i loved this album of covers!
It also turned me onto a few more bands/ singers i didn't know

What a girl! That was polically incorrect! Who cares!
I've tried, Lord knows I've tried...but for the life of me, I just can't with Tori...
Love this!
And would love to hear the Lloyd Coke & Commotions original!!!
Tori Amos - still the subject of so much vitriol, some 30 years later. She remains so underestimated by so many.
I don't love this covers record but good god what a run she had, particularly from Little Earthquakes to Scarlet's Walk. When you fall into her wavelength she hits just right. She illuminates parts of my brain/spirit that few, if any, other artists can.

Dual personality much?
I can't think of anything more depressing than this.
Well, maybe a Tori Amos cover band doing a cover of this song.

Just awful. Slowing down a song to a crawl while grinding against a piano is so fucking old by now. Tori needed a new shtick over 20 years ago.
Musical poetry.
First Lloyd cover I've heard. Prefer the original, but this gets a solid 6, just for the tunefulness and acoustic presentation!
Another song that makes your depression worse.

I'd rather have 4 more years of Trump than hear this cover.

Just play the original already.
Superb interpretation of the Lloyd Cole original

Pretty sure Lloyd Cole wrote this one back in the 80s. He's pretty darn awesome.
Originally gave this a 5. Then read the lyrics. Say what you will, Tori is a hell of a lyricist. Now at an 8.

Best we leave this one to Lloyd Cole...

One trick pony, and a marginal trick at that.

I'm usually not that harsh on covers that take a different vibe on a song, but she sucked the life out of this like a black widow does to a fly.
This is killing all music. Please make it stop!
Compared to the Lloyd Cole original, Tori Amos is mellowing my harsh. Cole's witty mockery becomes just sad.
Please STOP playing Tore Me Anus!!!
Well, this starts out FABULOUSLY with headphones ...

I feel a little out of place, but this what I've been waiting for from Ms Amos. I knew she had it in her to produce something tasty. I think this is great ...

The original is exponentially better... Although this is not too bad either ;)
This is one of my favorite Tori covers. I think its a beautiful song. Its just amazing when she does it in concert. I wish she performed it more...
Tori rocks, this song is okay and this album was rather boring. Love everything else by her though.
CWH
Another example of an artist who is a prisoner of style. She should stick to her own material so we wouldn\'t know how much better a song could be.
She only gets a \"2\" because she decided to cover a great song. Unfortunately, she thoroughly stripped all the heart, soul, and drive out of it. If Lloyd Cole was dead, he\'d be whirling in his grave. This is just another reason why someone should drive a spike through Tori Anus\'s forehead.
This is one case when I wish I could give a song two ratings: one for performer and one for composer. I\'d give a lower rating for the former and a higher one for the latter here.
Pretentious? Moi? ;)
It\'s nice to see that Lloyd Cole has not been completely forgotten. Tori offers a pretty good cover, but maybe we could have a spin of Lloyd\'s original.
nice - two songs from the same album in two hours ;)
Better than \"Strange Little Girl\"...
I wish some rattlesnakes would take a few bites out of her....
Tori is HARDLY godlike. I do like the majority of her songs however. This song\'s pretty good.
What is this, the Tori Amos Radio Station? I was already sick of this chick 7 or 8 years ago. Now I\'m hearing her damn near every day on this station. Argh!
Being a huge Tori fan, I immediately purchased this album when it came out. At first I didn\'t like it much. As I listened to the songs, the message they present makes them as deep and meaningful as her own songs. I certainly enjoy this album much more now that it has grown on me. Of course I gave this song a 10, just because Tori is a god, thus her songs are godlike... :)
love that major-chord chorus
This, along with the title track are definitely the high points on SLG, which is not one of Tori's better albums...but I guess it got her out of her contract with Altantic :D

So how is the original different? I'd never evven heard of Lloyd Cole et.al. before this album, and even then only from reading press, since there's no mention on the album, as I recall.
