From the very first time I rest my eyes on you, boy,
My heart said follow through
But I know now that I'm way down on your line
But the waiting feeling's fine.
So don't treat me like a puppet on a string
'Cause I know how to do my thing.
Don't talk to me as if you think I'm dumb,
I wanna know when you're gonna come.

See, I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,
'Cause summer is here, I'm still waiting there,
Winter is here and I'm still waiting there.

Like I said, it's been three years since I'm knocking on your door
And I still can knock some more.
Ooh boy, ooh boy, is it crazy love? I wanna know now
For I to knock some more. You see...
In life I know there is lots of grief
But your love is my relief.
Tears in my eyes burn, tears in my eyes burn
While I'm waiting, while I'm waiting for my turn.

See, I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,..
'Cause summer is here, I'm still waiting there,
Winter is here and I'm still waiting there.

No I no I, I don't wanna wait in vain
No I no I, I dont wanna wait in vain
No no no I, no I, I dont wanna wait in vain
Its your love that I waitng on
Its my love that your waitng for
Its your love that I waitng on
Its my love that your waitng for
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love

I'm in on that Karaoke critisism. She could have done some real justice to this song had she slowed it down and sung it. It's a great song and she is a great singer but..
If it is karaoke, then it’s great karaoke:)
What a voice !
What a mess.
I remember a frank interview when this came out, she said she hated the album because she was contractually obliged by the record company to release an album that year and had no help making it hence a collection of karaoke.    It is Anne Lennox, but I still hear karaoke.   It sold 6 million copies.
Beautiful cover done by a Beautiful IndividuaI    : )
Great song, great cover.

Indeed - an amazing CD and no one can sing like Annie!  She is represent heaven on earth!
Well. That was certainly not an improvement on the original.

Yes, she has still got it as witnessed on the Grammy's. Hozier looked a little overwhelmed...

Dear oh dear. *Reaches for barf-bag*
I never understood Annie's appeal. This doesn't alter my opinion.

I have good PSD luck today to land here. Wonderful song.

you were almost correct today! Stephen Marley, his voice sounds so much like Bob's
oooo no, not for me - I enjoyed her voice in early Eurythmics stuff, but she became so self-indulgent later on... meh...
I like Annies voice, the muzak is not really doing it for me.
I don't hate it, but eh...
WOW, Thanks for this one Bill! Really enjoyable  Solid 9
Now on 2nd listen I may have changed my mind.   {#Iamwithstupid}
I agree. Wow!

Very Nice cover. Good Job Annie
I honestly have never been able so stand her voice.  It just does not work for me.  I suppose she can sing very well if you were to ask a voice coach or something, but that means nothing to me if it makes me unhappy. Admittedly I do get satisfaction to not like someone who most people seem to adore, but it is nothing but a pleasant side effect and not manufactured to seem non conformist.

Sounds like the rhythm of the words and the music here don't go well together.

Miss you so much, Cynaera...

excellent song...

Very nice.
Beautiful version of a great song.  Love this entire album where Annie makes all these songs her own.

Yes, the song is a victim of the mid-80s to mid-90s ballad style.
It's like being stuck in an elevator somewhere
"and now your local forecast..."
Written by the messiah of reggae and sung by angel Annie.

I like this cover of Marley's song.  It works for me.
Annie pleases me muchly

once had a roommate who thought Marley was singing "I don't want to wait in the van for your love".  nuff said.
I like the original version not this dribble
this just keeps getting worse as it goes on

Hear her talk and you know she's from the Outer Hebrides (she isn't); hear her sing and she's from mid-Atlantic (perhaps).
Wow!  This is good!

That's not to say I don't love the Bob Marley version, but sometimes you just need to hear a song sung from the other perspective.

I love this version as well.  But I like everything Annie sings!
Boring like ....
Annie Lennox channeling Don Henley.

Annie's cover of this song makes my heart ache.  It's sublime.

"Tears in my eyes burn! Tears in my eyes burn while I'm waiting, while I'm waiting for my turn..."

As far as I'm concerned, Annie Lennox could sing the phone book and I'd be enchanted. She's got such a powerful voice, and she knows when to whisper and when to scream. She sang "Into the West" for one of the Lord of the Rings movies, and it just brought me to tears, it was so evocative.  If I had her voice and she had a feather, we'd both be tickled. {#Sunny}

Yes, the song from Lord of the Rings!  A fine tune - I think it brought a tear to my eye, too.
I've been following her since the first Eurythmics CD and like her work.

A wee bit too polished for my tastes. If I had an analogy for Lennox, I would say that she is the female Sting. Strong artist, great/original early material that has become increasingly slick and mainstream over time.

Of course none of us are getting any younger and I haven't personally had an original thought in ten years...lol.

do you mean this song? It's 16 years old now.
she's also had polyps on her vocal chords and can not sing like she once did.
But damn she was good live.
Great love making song......
Complete butchery!

I am an Annie Lennox fan, but hearing this just makes me think of how great Bob Marley's version is!
I think both versions are pretty perfect! please play annie's version more, though! i rarely hear it. and i love it :)

While I enjoy this cover I absolutely ADORE her version of "Don't Let it Bring You Down"!

Interesting interpretation.

But, that sense of urgent and raw yearning that Bob brought to it is missing here.

2 1/2 years later.  I still have the same opinion.

Also agree with comment of Alafia, below, that this is overproduced and could have been done better by her if more stripped down.  She has a great voice, and it is a great song.

i always love reading through the track comments. Such different opinions on these songs. "This Sucks" to "This Rules"... I love this place. (and Annie Lennox)

this is gorgeous. i love her voice, and the arrangement is lush and beautiful.
Oh Bill, please make it stop!
I lot of the time I just don't get Annie Lennox. I like some of the old Eurythmics songs, but I think that was more to do with the songs and arrangements than the voice. A couple of recent performances on UK TV have made me cringe and switch channels. Is anyone with me?
She does have a gorgeous voice, no doubt. But like Linda Ronstadt, you wonder about her choices in music.
Her vocals are nice, but the arrangement is so blah. It just doesn't feel like anything. Just sorta lays there motionless.
This is allright, but her cover of Don't Let it Bring You Down offers a very interesting, and IMHO more haunting, take on the original - a cover that reinterprates, as it should.  To me, this just covers; it's not really transformative.
Just Bad... not the good bad.. the bad bad.
Freakin great
love her voice, but not sure if this is the right material for it. 6/10

I like the eloquence that some of the listeners have when they express their likes or dislikes.  The originality of the negative comment tied to the song can be quite funny sometimes.  While I don't agree with them, I would much rather see a comment by PhysicsGenius or Excelsior over ManBirdExperiment any day.  Jeez, I get tired of seeing that picture.

P.S.  I'm guessing that the tattoo on Annie's forehead is so when she passes people on the street they'll know who she is because if it was for her to remember who she was when she looked in the mirror it's backward.{#Cheesygrin}

Do you see the irony in your question...or was that intentional?

Another interesting cover that I don't fully enjoy though I do appreciate Ms. Lennox's artistry and talent.  5/10.
interesting (nice) take on this song I think.  7 here

Gorgeous voice, second only to kd lang on my list of female vocalists I could listen to all day.
Drop your preconceptions about "style!" This is just well sung and well done. End of story.

At first, I thought this was Joni Mitchell as it reminded me of Kissing of Summer Lawns, but then I realized that this was a cover (something Joni would most likely never do) and not a very innovative cover at that.
{#Zip-lip} While I like Ms Lennox, she more often than not is more style than substance. This song's been done and better.

Hmm... I just can't decide on this one. I normally love re-interpreted covers. I love Bob Marley, and generally like Lennox.

This just leaves me sort of flat. I initially like the familiarity, but after a few minutes I really don't care any more. It gets a bit overdone towards the end.
As always her voice is fantastic. The orchestration is much too.....easy listening.
