Dark in the city, night is a wire
Steam in the subway, earth is a fire
(Do dododo dododo dododo dododo doo doo)
Woman, you want me, give me a sign
And catch my breathing even closer behind
(Do dododo dododo dododo dododo doo doo)

In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd
And I'm hungry like the wolf

Straddle the line in discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
Mouth is alive with juices like wine
And I'm hungry like the wolf

Stalked in the forest, too close to hide
I'll be upon you by the moonlight side
(Do dododo dododo dododo dododo doo doo)
Higher blood drumming on your skin, it's so tight
You feel my heat, I'm just a moment behind
(Do dododo dododo dododo dododo doo doo)

In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
Scent and a sound, I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf

Strut on a line, it's discord and rhyme
I howl and I whine, I'm after you
Mouth is alive, all running inside
And I'm hungry like the wolf

''Hungry like the wolf''
''Hungry like the wolf''
''Hungry like the wolf''

Burning the ground, I break from the crowd
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
I smell like I sound, I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf

Strut on a line, it's discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
Mouth is alive with juices like wine
And I'm hungry like the wolf

Burning the ground, I break from the crowd
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
Scent and a sound, I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf

Strut on a line, it's discord and rhyme
I howl and I whine, I'm after you
Mouth is alive, all running inside

It is a source of much debate. What would that even mean?

Dunno...tho an IPA has been named after that lyric so....

Smell Like I Sound is a New England IPA style beer brewed by Carton Brewing Company in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Score: n/a with 4 ratings and reviews. Last update: 04-14-2019.
Didn't much care for this band until I realized than Simon LeBon was a world-class sailor -- or at least owned and sailed a world-class sailboat, Drum.

About got himself killed on it in 1985.

This was my favourite of their singles. I hate them all. What a horrible decade.

Given that this comment is 10 years old . . . enjoy your 30th!  ; )
Hiatt and Landreth are so fine...saw them at Jazz Fest in NOLA years ago.
Pretty overplayed.  Not my favorite of theirs.

The song is OK to hear just for that:  "Yep, that's how it was!"  vibe
Flash-back to my early childhood, I probably said something like "ARRGGHHHH!!  Stop playing that tape, sis...put something else on!!"  This gets a 3 from me for the torturous repeated listening in early 80s, and a 9 for fun playing it on Rock Band....so I'll call it a 6 and be glad w/ it.  Long Live RP!!

{#Good-vibes} yup!
I've never appreciate Duran Duran... But why I know all words to this song?!? {#Ask}
For me, this DD song holds up the best. It got heavy rotation like popcorn in a microwave.  I didn't like them then but this song grooves pretty good without sounding as dated as other tracks like how hum "Rio" (too much like Men at Work) or later stuff likesucko barfo "The Reflex."
Marginal then, marginal now.  Now, "Girls on Film" much better track.

Each decade probably was if one were to really think about it.
Aaaah... Smell the 80s!

Those over-processed guitars!
Those synth drums!

We had only just discovered digital technology, and hadn't learned to use it responsibly yet.

(We're still learning)
Couldn't agree more!  This is a great bit of song writing, and I've heard it work well as a more rootsy version, too. I'm not saying RP should go crazy on 80s pop, but this is a great foray.

Good song, glad to see it added here to RP.  Yes, Duran Duran were pop teen idols, but if you actually listened to this whole album, it was a very well written rock album.   Strong lyrics, strong music, pretty impressive for a bunch of 21 year old kids.   There are some great "deep" songs on this album that you should check out (New Religion is by far my favorite).

If you thought that was sexy, you should try DD after Sam & Dave.   Oh my, Bill, that was epic.

Great.  Now it's in my head again.
Hey...I haven't been able to keep sitting down with this set of fun dancing songs....and they cover 3 different eras, too!!  so cool, Bill
Wow! D2 on RP!
More Duran Duran please!  {#Wave}
hee hee hee. Thank you! Not my favorite by these guys, but I appreciate it!

If you are going to play any DD song, should be Rio.  That is a pretty good song.

Rio finally got played today.  I think I'l go out to my local thrift store and purchase a Simon Le Bon "New Romantic" suit to celebrate!

Yes, but you're not alone.  I find it a little jarring on RP though.  I think Bill likes to keep us on our toes.
They had a good bass player. You can kind of hear him on this song.

And the woman moaning at end of song....
The epitome of 80s apolitical hedonism. Still, at least they were openly fun and didn't have some of the dodgier misogynistic overtones of, say, Bryan Ferry or The Stranglers. A band of their times, though, who don't make it past the decade.
I like Duran Duran and this song in particular.

It's the ABBA effect. I hate Duran Duran unless I hear them. Can't fault well done pop tunes.
Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Duran Duran rocks my world. :)
Go play Rio or Girls on Film on bass for Rock Band: it's really hard and a ton of fun!
God the 80s were a strange, weird time.
Smells like he sounds? gak.

Still can't believe this POS is on RP.
Weird...I just saw them last Friday in Houston.  Good show even though a couple of them were getting over colds.
Hearing this does nothing to help me accept that I have a 20 year high school reunion coming up.
All you naysayers... to you I say {#Nyah}

I saw Duran Duran twice, back in the day. They were among the best bands I ever saw.
I don't know how to rate it...
Admittedly I owned it in 80 - whatever. But, now?
Closer to 6 than 4 right now. Definitely still catchy.
*shrug*
I head this song way too many times in 1983, when the NCSU Wolfpack was making their run at the NCAA basketball title.  But it's fun to hear it again now...I'd also like to see the Pack be competitive in basketball again !!

HA!  I love it when you go 80's, Bill.  Too many memories, not all that I want to remember mind you, but fun nonetheless.
no rating, yes fun quirky tune and a definite icon of the 80's

Sorry, only one way to describe this song/band: total crap. Pleae burn all the DD MP3 files.
Say what you will about this today, this song is very important in the development of my musical tastes as a young child, so it gets a pass (and a nostalgic sigh).
Most unexpected
Shocked to find 25% of people voting 1 on this.  It's fun and bouncy.  Certainly not great music, but not bad enough to warrant this.
Hahaha.....so dorky.{#Tongue}
{#Moon}

To all those naysayers who give this pure, majestic, genius work of art a "1".

I saw them live in '86 or so. I was 12, and went to the concert because a friend had tickets—I wasn't that into them, otherwise, so although I thought the music was fun, I was still mystified about the special cordoned-off section for all the teenage girls who had fainted in excitement. That part was kind of surreal to me. Otherwise, the stage show was super-cheesy and very fun. First arena concert I ever went to. I can't help enjoying this for nostalgic reasons.

Great song. Kick ass band. Fun story...my wife and I were on a camping trip in western Michigan around the time this was popular, '82 or '83, and the campground manager at Muskegon State Park was a Brit from Birmingham. The group registering in front of us is a bunch of teenage girls who, when he mentions he's from Birmingham, pelt him with questions, "Ooh, do  you know Duran Duran?" Well, this guy's easily in his '40s, but he goes along, "Well, sure I do. Simon LeBon and I are tight, y'know, lass?" We're dying laughing.
Maybe not their best, but it sets my mental 80:s hairdo a-sway.
Lighten up whiners, it's just a couple of minutes long and you don't have to focus your undivided attention to the noise. Catch up on your work instead whydoncha?
Made me smile.  What a strange decade.
Mmmmmaybe, maybe , if there was an '80s day' or something.... right now?  On the fence.
So my head's been buried in my monitor all morning.  When I heard this song, I was like what year is this?  What radio station is on?
Anyway...snap back to reality.
Thanks!
Duran Duran on RP? Nice.

I can't claim to really understand what any Duran Duran song is about (if anything) but they sure are fun to listen to.
i am NOT hearing this. an all-time low.

1. Death
2. Taxes
3. RP Listener outrage, often resulting in a record number of posts in a very short amount of time, over 80s chestnuts (see also: "The Safety Dance", "Electric Avenue", "Crazy Train").

Always makes me think of clubbing out on Far Rockaway Beach in '82. . . whew!

Months before their got really big on Top 40 - Album Rock Radio was playing Duran Duran

the older I get, the better these guys get.
That said, this wasn't one of the best of their tunes to me.
I did like the Arcadia version of the group when it came out though.

And yet look at them now — seasoned veterans with at least a dose of critical acclaim.

I can do some DD, but not this one.

Oh Bill, like shooting fish in a barrel. {#No}
Last played on Jan 31, 2003 at 4am! Any regrets it made it to the playlist, Bill? Hope it got a decent burial. Really is a classic, but way to overplayed. I still listen to this and others like it to revisit my hormones.
one of the most fantastic duran songs. impossible to overplay this song. the lyrics make no sense but hey, who cares. duran duran were the best thing to come out of the 80's and their recent world tours prove they still have what it takes. this song is magic, will always be one of my faves
Please, Bill. This is just pathetic.

i dunno, seems about a 50/50 split to me i like it more for memories than the song itself, but like it nonetheless. and you are correct, no matter what songs i loathe here...a favorite is bound to play next. :D

YEAH!!!!!! More more more! One of the top bands of the NWG playlist.
Am I the only one who pictures the silly video of this tune? What can I say...it's an addictive song! Go, Simon LeBon!
As much as it embarasses me, this song gets me all pumped up...... ;)
Uhhhhh .... Hmmmmm ... I think you might be trying A LITTLE hard to add some variety to RP with this one Bill !?!?!?
Oh yes, those parachute pants of very many colours. You\'d think with the amount of money they were on they\'d have gone for the jet pack \'VTOL\' pants, although I hear they\'re far tougher to operate.
I hate pop music....but early Duran Duran (first 3 albums) are really good, and I think these albums show talent that lies beyond their hairdoos and parachute pants. My CD collection is filled only with the greatest music: Zeppelin, FLoyd, Yes, King Crimson, Black Crowes, Chris Issak, Tori Amos, Genesis, Moody Blues, Who, STones, etc. But, I do also have the first 3 Duran CDs.....they still sound great.

Good point, but come on. "Seasons In the Sun"? That's the worst of the worst, along with "Afternoon Delight" and "Muskrat Love". This song sucks but not as much as those do.

Because this is better
