We were drinking like the Irish
But we were drinking scotch
Bartender turns on a movie
Everybody turned to watch
And every single eye was gleaming
When they reached the final scene
Well, at least mine did
Here's looking at you, kid

You know it's a mad mission
Under difficult conditions
Not everybody makes it to the loving cup
It's a mad mission
But I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission, sign me up

I think I've seen the look before
Yes, it's kind of non-committal
It says come hither, baby
But then he's hard wood to whittle
It says it don't mean a thing
But still somehow it does
He'd like you to join the club that likes to say
There's no such thing as love

It's a mad mission
Under difficult conditions
Not everybody makes it to the loving cup
It's a mad mission
But I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission, sign me up

Sometimes you find yourself flying low at night
Flying blind and looking for any sign of light
You're cold and scared and all alone
You'd do anything just to make it home

It's a mad mission
Under difficult conditions
Not everybody makes it to the loving cup
It's a mad mission
But I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission, sign me up

Sounds like she's trying to emulate Bob Dylans style of singing(talking)!
Well written piece and well presented audio
Apparently, they aren't married after all. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/robert-plant-patty-griffin-not-married-350315

Flaming Red is her best album imo.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Flaming Red.

Ditto to both.  Thanks from me as well.
Start with 'Living with Ghosts'.  Flaming Red is great too, just very different from this one.

I started with 1000 Kisses so I'm biased but I think it's a good cross-section. And it's got one of the best songs, by anyone, in the last decade, Long Ride Home.

Saw Patty open for John Prine at the Wang Theatre in Boston last week. She is why I went, and she didn't disappoint. Just fabulous.

It wasn't, but I have a copy online for those interested. Send me a PM for the details.

Ms. Griffin is something else!  Thanks BillG and Rebecca!
Thanks RP...I really needed some hope today and I find it every time I hear this song.
Yes, the terrible set is over and he's starting to play some good ones now. Thank you...thank you. Only 40 mins left at work and I'd love to spend those minutes enjoying the music lol.  Patty is great.   Her voice is superb. {#Daisy}
Love it, love it, love it.... Big Patty fan and don't have this disc — fantastic - thanks!

Thank you RP for introducing me to Ms. Griffin. She's my new favorite artist (along with Porcupine Tree - again, thanks to RP).

A good solid 3.
I love, love, love this entire compilation of tunes...Thank you so much RP for entering my life and introducing me to this phenomenal artist.
So, so, so glad to hear this here.
i'm sure i have heard a billion songs by this time in my life --so it takes a really great song to move me. this song, and in fact, this entire album is absolutely remarkable.
Wow, this hasn't been played since 11/11/02? I'm playing Living With Ghosts right now (problems with the RP 128K stream, otherwise I'd be listening to RP right now). Just wanted to point out that "Mad Mission" is from this album, so Bill can update this listing.
Really, I was thinking mere Michelle Shocked meets Bob Dylan. Whatever. I like it.
She\'s got a GREAT voice. Shawn Colvin meets Sarah McLachlan. More!
Absolutely nothing special
