Last time I was sober, man I felt bad
Worst hangover that I ever had
It took six hamburgers and scotch all night
Nicotine for breakfast just to put me right
'cos if you wanna run cool
If you wanna run cool
If you wanna run cool, you got to run
On heavy, heavy fuel

My life makes perfect sense
Lust and food and violence
Sex and money are my major kicks
Get me in a fight I like dirty tricks
'cos if you wanna run cool
Yes if you wanna run cool, you got to run
On heavy, heavy fuel

My chick loves a man who's strong
The things she'll do to turn me on
I love the babes, don't get me wrong
Hey, that's why I wrote this song

I don't care if my liver is hanging by a thread
Don't care if my doctor says I ought to be dead
When my ugly big car won't climb this hill
I'll write a suicide note on a hundred dollar bill
'cos if you wanna run cool
If you wanna run cool
Yes if you wanna run cool, you got to run
On heavy, heavy fuel

Maybe their worst song.

Hearing this one on the Monday after a long New Year weekend is PERFECT timing (of course I got this from 'My Favorites' but BillG's playlist prowess persists here too!)

Long Live RP and here's to a great 2022!!
Excellent

+1 Rock and Roll Forever...

Is this a cover? The lyrics don't seem to fit...
Love Dire Straits, but they became too pop for me after Pick Withers left.

If you want to really appreciate this song, you got to run a good subwoofer.

Yeah, but even generic Dire Straits is pretty good Dire Straits. I guess because Mark Knopfler never has any giant, raging 20 minute solos, he's never attained "Guitar God" status, but there's nobody I'd rather listen to play the axe.

I disagree - I think the cognoscenti do consider him a "Guitar God"

A much underrated song, at least in the comments section here. It still rocks!

Yes, me too - but "Calling Elvis"?? Pretty darn good.
I also like Dire Straits, but this song has gotta go.
Not a great song for them.
Down to 3
I'm a HUGE Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler fan.  This album was... meh.
starts off solid "YEE-HAAAA" then those disappointing vocals start an' its all downhill from there  ...  psd

I've been thinking the same thing for some time now.  I've always loved this one, even knowing it's not "great" music; something about the growling guitar and hangovers goes together well, and that makes me smile, and that's a good thing.  8 from the currently sober Seattleite!
If only you would play this...
Prefer... "On The Night" Album Version
Like it a lot!

 Not so bad, but never as great as the classic stuff. I\'d like to hear some \"Six Blade Knife\" or \"Private Investigations\".
Like this one. The B-side (back in the days of cassette singles :) ) was a song called "Millionare Blues"- good song, and really funny lyrics. Worth hunting down, IMHO. Actually, It might have been the B-side to "Calling Elvis", now that I think about it. Same album...
Generic Dire Straits. Nothing to see here.
That was really jump\'n there. Thanks Bill, I neeeded that. :)
mark and the band making good music.
