Hahahaaa! This is 20 years old! Timeless classic. The monkeys will always be monkeys.

OOps, I'm nearly 70, but what the
A couple years later, but ditto for today.

As someone who has been on both ends of this 'couch' situation, I can fully attest that sleeping on the couch sucks and sleeping in bed with the girl rules! Except when couch dude gets bent out of shape, doesn't leave, makes problems, etc. Sure wish I had this song to play back then!! Long Live RP!! And HJB, wherever you are, if you're still alive.....yeah...thanks for kicking him to the couch!!

Great post, friend. We're right in the middle of yet another one ...
was waiting for "Gold coast slaver bound for..." after the guitar intro
To me a SOLID 8 - Most Excellent

Even the name is an appropriation with a little twist. What else should folks expect?
Beck does this same thing, but he's more prolific. I don't see as many complaints with him, except maybe on the song Jackass.
Good call wolfy!
This is a wonderful set. Still have the headphones on and am not getting much work done.
Isn't that soo bizarre? Rock to Let It Be... so much happened between the two.
Last 15 years ...so fast!
Totally
yeah, me too!
I hope you never come to this: I lost the X-wife to the tune of Radiohead "Hail To The Thief" album which I listened to with my daughter over and over, on the way to Coachella. Now, 10 years on- very happily remarried, and all-is-cool- I still can't listen to "Backdrifts- Honeymoon is Over" without feeling a little seasickness. Yea, that song "captured it all" I suppose you could say.
So, did he get bent sleeping on the couch while you were there?
Everything is derivative; this band often does it overtly. The listener comments are almost the same in the threads for every one of their songs here (i.e. "...sounds like blablabla, derivative, etc.). Given the band's name, it should be apparent that their being conspicuously derivative is at least a part of what they're going for.
Derivative? Definitely. But damned good derivative. Gets my body moving every time.

definitely "whoa"
Bummed ?
What's wrong with that? The Stones have done many great songs and there is room for a few more like them.
I think it's quite a sharp satire, for a bunch of stoners. Funny thing about the Dandy Warhols: they do super-rocky numbers like this, you buy an album on the strength of those, and the rest of the album is mumblecore stoner stuff with the incisiveness of a marshmallow and the bite of an earthworm. 9 from the Nottingham jury for this number, but a nailed on Ho-Hum for most of their output.

Aren't you glad we live in a time that doesn't force you to buy an album of dross to get the one nugget you crave?

Agreed on all accounts. I acquired several of their works hoping for more output like this but found nothing equal to this and with a few exceptions found it mostly disposable...

That which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. - Ecclesiastes 1:9
Good point and probably could be directed to half of the posts on all of the song boards.
In fact, the entire song seems to have been constructed around that riff rip-off - almost as if they used to cover the stones before writing original material...
Like Keith Richards never lifted a riff?
As in Chuck Berry?

We need RnR!!! 21st century rock music sucks...so far.
Ding ding ding!

Yep. And 13 years ago, too.

Must admit the DM's rather passed me by the first time around... but having heard this several time on RP, and also the most excellent Godless, I invested a whole £3 in a 'Greatest Hits' CD, and I've not (on the whole) been disappointed...
Was it really meant as an homage? Well at the least it's a pastiche, and a damn good one. I like it a lot better than the 'original' :) 9.
agree. It's the guitar that reminds me of the Stones but the background vocals do too. Pretty good album.
Oh yeah, I wait tables too.

How can anyone resist this bouncy beat, killer pop hooks, and witty lyrics?
So that is what passes for witty these days?

The volume on my air guitar goes up to 11!

Exactly what I came in to say. Kinda like the Stones, all right . . . but way, way better.
There's a huge gap between "rip off" and "homage". And having heard Jumpin Jack Flash approx. 1,670,325 times — I'll take the Dandy Warhols' homage.

10, but only because 10 is tops!
In comparison with Pink Floyd it would be something between 17 and 28!
One of the best rock-songs - EVER!
I like reading your posts because I know you are one of the few people here whom I actually believe is writing the truth about what they really think of a song....99% people are saying conventional bullshit trying to impress everyone else about their taste and knowledge...and therefore their input is worthless...
..but then I also learn from your posts that all taste is subjective..because I really do not find this song anything special...it's meh..

woo hoo hoo hoo

So I'm ripping off some other band when I loudly whoop out a "woo-hoo"?? I think not my dear - it's all in fun. This jolly song is just one of many unique and cheerful blendings of sound and lyrics that makes the Dandy's a one of a kind band!
I can hear the resemblance now that you mention it, but a ripoff? No. Lots of songs sound like other songs. Probably every song sounds like at least one other.
Everything's been done before, and much of this band's material is direct references to well-known songs. I wouldn't be offended by it.
Someone will always find something not to enjoy...which is fine. I'll assume they find enjoyment in something else on RP (or why else would they be here?).
I find plenty to enjoy in it, but for me its not an all-time great.
