Hurrah i awake from yesterday
Alive but the war is here to stay
So my love caterina and me
Decide to take our last walk
Through the noise to the sea
Not to die but to be re-born
Away from a life so battered and torn....
Forever...
Oh say can you see it's really such a mess
Every inch of earth is a fighting nest
Giant pencil and lip-stick tube shaped things
Continue to rain and cause screaming pain
And the arctic stains
From silver blue to bloody red
As our feet find the sand
And the sea is straight ahead..
Straight ahead.....
Well its too bad
That our friends
Cant be with us today
Well thats too bad
"The machine
That we built
Would never save us"
That's what they say
(That's why they aint coming with us today)
And they also said
"It's impossible for man
To live and breath underwater..
Forever" was their main complaint
(Yeah)
And they also threw this in my face:
They said
Anyway
You know good well
It would be beyond the will of God
And the grade of the King
(Grace of the King yeah yeah)

So my darling and I
Make love in the sand
To salute the last moment
Ever on dry land
Our machine has done its work
Played its part well
Without a scratch on our bodies
And we bid it farewell

Starfish and giant foams
Greet us with a smile
Before our heads go under
We take a last look
At the killing noise
Of the out of style...
The out of style, out of style

You need to be more than a great guitarist to make this boring song enjoyable.
Always loved this.

'...It's too bad, that our friends,
can't be with us today'
.
As true to me today as it was all those yesterdays ago (when 1983 was still in the future....)
Mitch Mitchell was a very, very good drummer
Excellent
Love Jimi as a player. Don't love Jimi as a singer.

This is a rarely heard Hendrix tune.  Thanks for reminding me it's out there Bill.
Aceeeeeed!
Sometimes, when I hear the first notes, I think to the Christian Death's version, with Gitane Demone at the vocals...

IRON BUTTERFLY - IN A GADDA DA VIDA
Spent many, many hours listening to Hendrix as a teenager, with and without guitar in hand, with and without earphones ... buying and devouring every album I could find.  I still regard it as time well spent.  This song ... a strange masterpiece.

Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches loves this song...
Actually nice to hear some Hendrix that doesn't usually see the light of day.
Really bad quality. Or its the music, arrangement itself?

Jimi's music just connects so well, so completely, so trippily to other worlds, other realms, other phases of Energy Flow, and I'm so glad he still lives here on RP!
Electric Ladyland, Side C.

My one and only "11".
It is not "Godlike." It is, indeed, voiced directly from the Gods.

— (Although I think is a sin that RP cuts when Jimi starts channeling the Gods!)
Jimi was simply a genius.  One who made some bad choices and died way too young.

A GREAT Snopes article on what really went down when Hendrix opened for the Monkees.  I never really got into Hendrix's music, but my Aunt Janet fell into his lap one evening in Arizona...

Best heard though good headphones or an excellent stereo.

Weak intro, but oh man, it got better.
JIMI.  Wow, as I listen to this, I get caught in my own feedback as my brain tells me this is from the 60's and my heart and ears tell the ole' brain that there's some really cool, new sounding tunes coming down the pike!  I wish Jimi was still with us — it's hard to imagine what else he would given us, but we know it would set the bar incredibly high.
LOVE THIS SONG!

Released 1968? or is this another 1969 gem.

I agree about the album but, although this song is definitely one of my 4 or 5 favorites, both Voodoo Chile's always blow me away everytime in a more visceral way than this one does, much as I love it. And give me the 13-minute version every time!

Humming into a comb with wax paper sounds almost like humming into a kazoo, but the latter instrument has a tube with a lateral orifice over which a vibrating membrane is attached.

Read the article, not just the status.  Hendrix DID open for the Monkees.  He just wasn't dropped for the reason the false rumor stated.  Very cool bit of story there, and some great quotes!

Nice.  I was just thinking about this very song in the previous PT number, and how PT comes up somewhat short in comparison.

This is the first time I've heard this. It's ... I don't know what to say. I'll just sit and listen. That'll be enough.

Ted Nugent?  I can see some arguements about technical superiority but as a guitarist Nugent is a B- at best.  Not a comment on his music or musical tastes, but his guitar playing is nothing special.

Jimi, on the other handtruly transcended the instrument. And that is the ture hallmark of a master.

Ted Nugent.... Hahahaahaa{#Moon}

Ted Nugent is a chickenhawk that was so cowardly he went to his draft appointment in pants that he had purposely soiled to avoid having to serve. I have tried to imagine how one could be that hypocritical, but just can't picture it.

He has some minor talent with the guitar, but many, many people, live and dead, are better, including Jimi. Let him stick to shooting things that can't shoot back.

Oof. I respect the man's talent, but I gotta change the station. This does nothing positive for me.
I wonder how many brain cells fired their last pulse while their chemically altered host was listening to this song/album in the 60's/70's. A not inconsequential number, I would guess.
awwwww shucks. just what i needed. the hook on this one is permanently lodged in the cortex. killer.
Guess this was a futuristic/apocryphal vision...wonder why 1983..maybe just because 1984 did not rhyme with be etc. doubt it. I looked up the lyric, dont recall quite what piece of planetary madness was happening when this was penned but the feeling is well captured. I see the use of "lyrics" in the plural to refer to one lyric, which is the words of a song, is too well established to be stemmed. Our language is ever rendered more inexact by the ignorant. Just like criteria, plural of criterion, or media, plural of medium. (signed) finickety curmudgeon
