Alone tonight in somebody's bed
She gone and dyed her hair red
She only went and did what she did
'Cause he would drive her home then
There's lipstick on her new dress
She hadn't even paid yet
But it doesn't matter where the money went
It wasn't how she paid her rent

One, two, three Marlenas
There's got to be someone we can trust out here among us

Now lookin' out across the city lights
She thought they'd be a good pair
Now he could make a living sellin' cars
Maybe she could work there
She's gonna pick a star in the night
And pray to make it all right
She tried so hard not to pick a kite
She always prayed to head lights

One, two, three Marlenas
There's got to be someone we can trust out here among us
One, two, three Marlenas
It's see no, speak no, hear no evil about us
The three Marlenas

Man, I think I'm gonna buy myself a Rolls
Maybe a Chevrolet
One where I can pull that top down
Just let my radio play
Now I'm headin' out on that highway
I'm goin' right out of state
Now ain't lookin' back 'til I'm gone
Right through heaven's gates

One, two, three Marlenas
There's got to be someone we can trust, here among us
One, two, three Marlenas
You see no, speak no, hear no evil among us
The three Marlenas
Three Marlenas

They did a solid show up at Chautauqua on a sultry night last summer... If you get the chance, see them!
Always loved this album! For me, it's great drinkin' the Blues into the background music! Makes me want to hear Matt Mays & El Torpedo!

Good, not great. Nothing wrong with a good song that is enjoyable for three minutes.

I agree!

I like the organ notes during the opening. I though immediately of Garth Hudson. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปโค๏ธ

It's interesting how I can listen off my phone app last night, and hear the same playlist the next morning on my work laptop.

This very tasty beer doesn't seem to selling too well here at the moment.  Shelves are full of it.  Silly.  It's tasty and not too poisonous.

reminds me of playing talisman with the gang during the 90's... the wallflowers had good songs, and I like that JD tried to make it without his dad's name.

There's a two-note interval in this track that reminds me of Philip Glass' Anthem. Just gorgeous, although it's the only thing I like about this song.

I'm sure she would if she could (or maybe she's in a new place of infinite music?) I'm between 7 and 8 on this one, and sticking with the 8 cuz it's roadtrip music and it's roadtrip season in the PNW.
Long Live RP!! And RIP Ann aka Cynaera

Well, I've heard this a few times. Yes, it's commercial (heck, even OUR radio station plays it!) Jakob Dylan's got better music than this song, but for a set, it's a good fit.

Someday, Bill should just do a WTF set - close his eyes and click on five songs at random. I know it seems to some folks like he does this all the time, but there's always a method to his seeming-madness. He could schedule a "clash-day" set, in which he just picks five songs at random and plays them. Or, he could offer up a "listener-set" in which an RP supporter could submit a set and get it played.

Just sayin'....

I got 'The Great American Whale' in the intro/riff.
Thirty Helens agree.

But many troubadors like him, as he followed the many that came before him.
I hear Sweet Jane in the background.

There in only one Bruce Springsteen.

Imagine Bruce Springsteen couldn’t remember exactly how Sweet Jane went so decided to jam round it. Result Three Marlenas.

i. cannot. stand. the wallflowers. they make me ever-grateful for PSD.

This is just an easy, likable, singable song. Not high art but familiar and comfortable.
Nice transition from Ryan Adams.
First time I heard this I was sitting in studio audience of Late Show w/Letterman and recall enjoying it, despite the obvious Sweet Jane similarities and that the studio felt about 45 degrees โ˜ƒ Still enjoy the tune, miss Letterman though :(

Well, Mr. Petty was profoundly influenced by Dylan the Elder, so I guess it's like a full circle.

This was released in 1996, not 1992.  It was my freshman year of college.
Not exactly sure why, but I just can't stand this song.
Just insipid.

I like the idea of a listener set.  Are ya listening, Bill?

A friend of mine used to do a show called, "Hey Mom!  I'm on 91X!" which was a listener selected playlist and the listener chosen actually got to go in-studio with the DJ and talk about their selections.  I was asked if I wanted to do the show and it was Mother's Day, so I actually brought my Mom with me.  True story.
I could very happily eat organic food pellets to this music...they were great opening for Clapton, especially from the third row center (talk about hitting the LiveNation online lottery).

How obscure does a song have to be to not be labeled "commercial"? So obscure that it sounds like crap...to satisfy the hyper-critical cognoscenti?

Get over yourselves, lighten up, and try to enjoy a decent tune when you hear it. It ain't life or death.

Three Marlenas on the Wall?  Nice!

They could have least played Suzanne Vega's Marlena on the Wall with this,,,
I like specially this song over the rest. Good choice !
Duh, what is this about?
I like the Wallflowers, but this is bad!

{#Yawn}
Having the famous Dad probably hurt him more than helped him with the hipsters out there.

That's a Hammond/Leslie setup, folks. Not a Farfisa. Inamorato wrote:

Actually, it wasn't a moment too soon for me! I propose a mandatory 3.5 year wait time for 95% of the songs you hear EVERY DAY on commerical radio. That would be cool.

"Sweet Jane..." Fair to middling at best.

Jeez, I feel like I need to say something, just to counterbalance all the slagging. OK: I think it's kinda kewl, in a laid back way. Vaguely evocative of a lot of the players the old man used to hang with. I especially like the Farfisa organ fills.

Yeah, but He was resurrected, so perhaps Bob's boy's career will be, too. :D
BDTH was waaaaay overplayed in its heyday, but still stands up as a really really damn good rock album. Even Breech has some really stellar moments and Red Letter Days is very good as well.
Okay, I\'m pretty much burnt out on this one now. Something about some songs makes it seem like I heard it yesterday, even if it\'s been six months.
Pffft, naysayers be damned!! I think that \'Bringing Down the Horse\' is a superbly moody album. The singles from it may be very formulaic, and overplayed, but the album played as a whole is still in my top 50.
nonononononononononooooooooo...spare me this horrid abuse to my ears, mind, soul....
Whatever happened to the Wallflowers? I thought this album was pretty good and then they just fell off the map...
To a lot of people Bob Dylan is God and we all know what happened to His son.
great tune....you should play \"I\'ve Been Delivered\" off the Breach album
I think I\'m still burnt out from oversaturation by radio/MTV circa 1998.
