He could have tuned in, tuned in, but he tuned out
A bad time, nothing could save him
Alone in a corridor waiting locked out
He got up out of there, ran for hundreds of miles
He made it to the ocean, had a smoke and tea
The wind rose up, set him down on his knee
Wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw,
Delivered him wings, "Hey, look at him now..."
Arms wide open with the sea as his floor
Oh – ah, ohhh...

He's - flying! Woah!
Flying! Wide! Oh...

He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share
His key to the locks on the chains, he saw everywhere
But first he was stripped, and then he was stabbed
By faceless men, well...fuckers, he still stands.
And he still gives his love, he just gives it away
The love he receives is the love that is saved
And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky
A human being that was given to fly

Flying! Woah...
High! Flying! Woah...
Flying! Woah...
Ohh, oahh...

Bad song?  Oh please, that is way off the mark.  And I'm not even a PJ fan.  Read the rating and weep.

Plant?

Yeah, that puzzled me at first, too, until I looked farther down in the comments and somebody mentioned the resemblance of this song to "Going to California".  I think that is the connection with Plant.
In my fantasies, I'm the drummer to this track. Fookin' masterpiece.

I feel that way about Silversun Pickups, Decembrists, post-'78 Stones, Alt J, Radiohead, a few others. Usually not Eddie, since the band overall is no slack, and is spectacular live.

Yeah, growing on me, especially late at night.
I think I may have to investigate this band more deeply, perhaps a little late in the day, I know, but better than never!
Noise.

To quote the first poster, here's hoping Cynaera is listening to this:

I remember hearing that LZ had accused PJ of stealing elements of their songs (ironic, considering the songs/song credits on LZ's first two albums)... anyway,  this does not remind me of Going to Califirnia except that I like them both.
looking forward seeing them in three weeks in berlin, wuhlheide!{#Bananajam}

Led Zeppelin's "Going to California"? or is there another one that actually sounds like this song?

Clearly influenced by and borrows some structure and chord progression from that great song.  Hardly mimics it.  Search for Robert Plant & Pearl Jam on you tube to see how these songs played out when they shared a bill.

I don't know what you're hearing, but I don't hear only a hint of Going to California in this piece. In any case, it's no rip off. Perhaps you should write a song called Going to Name That Tune on The Way to the Ear Doctor.

Okay - there it goes. To 10. And now, I have to meddle in a friend's life (well, she asked me to!) and perhaps save a life. Funny how music can influence things like this.

This song obviously is based on, or at least "inspired by" Led Zeppelin's "Going To California", but it is not "EXACTLY" the same tune.  For one thing, the Zeppelin tune has quite a few more chords.
I am 51 years old, on my 40th Bday my daughter burned me a copy of "Ten", hooked on Eddie & Peal Jam.  Amazing, powerful

Stingray - you are clearly clueless - Just come to a PJ concert and look at the reaction of the 20,000 in the crowd as they groove to this beauty and all scream =- FLY - with one voice.

Brilliant PJ tune melodically inspired by Going to California.

What does "bead marmelade" or "pearl jelly" mean for a rock band?

Love love love

A great track from a strange yet appealing album.  I always seem to like popular bands' oddball albums like this one, R.E.M.'s "Up" and U2's "Pop."  I like it when bands take chances even at the risk of confusing their fan base and delivering lowered sales.

{#Clap}

Great album

Awesome song, awesome album. This album marked the transition away from their pop grunge fans to becoming a well refined group, and selling out shows around the world.
