Got a gun in my holster
Got a horse between my knees
And I'm goin' to Arizona
Pardon me, boys, if you please

I have been a desperado
Raped and pillaged 'cross the plain
Now, I'm goin' to Arizona
Just a Rider In The Rain

He's a Rider In The Rain
He's a Rider In The Rain
And I'm goin' to Arizona
He's a Rider In The Rain

Oh, my mother's in St. Louis
And my bride's in Tennessee
So, I'm goin' to Arizona
With a banjo on my knee

He's a Rider In The Rain
He's a Rider In The Rain
And I'm goin' to Arizona
He's a Rider In The Rain

Used to work in Uncle's feed store
While he was fightin' in the war
Now I'm goin' to Arizona
Ain't gonna work for him no more

I'm the son of the prairie
And the wind that sweeps the plain
So, I'm goin' to Arizona
Just a Rider In The Rain

I'm a Rider In The Rain
I'm a Rider In The Rain
And he's goin' to Arizona
Just a Rider In The Rain

He's a Rider In The Rain
He's a Rider In The Rain
And I'm goin' to Arizona
Just a Rider In The Rain

I'm not a fan of the line after 'desperado'
Not sure why he's heading to AZ if he's a rider in the rain.
Loves me some Randy Newman.

I only know three chords... four...
Man!  I haven't heard this in ages!!    Wow.  I'll have to dig out the vinyl.  Great song, off of a great album.
Gretchen heard the eagles Too. Great ear Gretchen!

yes

Sounds like the Eagles are backing him up.

cuz, they are (or some members are).
Good cut off a Great Album.
In "Welcome to L.A." Canadian actor Allan Nicholls plays a singer/songwriter named David Howard, whose look and style is a dead ringer for Newman. The Howard character is totally self-absorbed, a monument unto himself—and I just don't know if the send-up is a dig at Newman or just writer/director Alan Rudolph having a bit of fun.

BTW, I recommend viewing it and Altman's "Nashville" back-to-back, a sort of Keith Carradine/Geraldine Chaplin film festival. Nicholls is also in the latter.
