Little ditty about Jack and Diane
Two American kids growin' up in the heartland
Jackie gonna be a football star
Diane debutante backseat of Jackie's car

Suckin' on chili dogs outside the tastee freeze
Diane's sittin' on Jackie's lap
He's got his hand between her knees
Jackie say, hey, Diane
Let's run off behind a shady trees
Dribble off those Bobby Brooks
Let me do what I please
Say a

Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin' is gone
Say a
Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin' is gone
They walk on

Jackie sits back
Reflects his thoughts for the moment
Scratches his head
And does his best James Dean
Well you know, Diane
We oughta run off to the city
Diane says, baby
You ain't missin' nuth-in
Jackie, say-a

Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin' is gone
Oh yeah, I say, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin' is gone

Gonna let it rock
Let it roll
Let the Bible Belt come
And save my soul
Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make us women and men

Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin' is gone
Oh yeah, I say, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin' is gone

Little ditty about Jack and Diane
Two American kids done the best they can

"Suckin' on chili dogs outside the tastee freeze
Diane's sittin' on Jackie's lap..."

Hmmm- Redneck AI?
Nowhere near a John  Cougar Mellancamp fan. But this song kicks ass.
Not a big fan of "classic rock" pablum, but this is good in small doses.

That said I remember when this was huge on the radio... it peaked in August 1982.

My mother HATED this song.
Iconic snapshot of rural US America!
JC's "American Fool" and LS's "Street Survivors" will always be favorites of mine, since they were my mom's favorites when I was a 5 year old.

And my mom was a 'Diane' too.

I'll call this a 10 which includes a +2 for nostalgic reasons.

Long Live RP and memories of our dearly departed (miss you, mom!)
This song still does it for me.  Giving it an 8
Even though it is John Cougar,  without the Mellencamp
Great song.
Overplayed but still great.
Sittin' at 8
I was 20 when this was released, and more than 20 yrs went by. Almost like an equation: solve it for x. O yeah
He puts on a good live show.

Especially outside.

In a ball park.

Stealing home.
