Now...in this faraway land
Strange...that the palms of my hands
Should be damp with expectancy

Spring...and the air's turning mild
City lights...and the glimpse of a child
Of the alleyway infantry

Friends...do they know what I mean
Rain...and the gathering green
Of an afternoon out-of-town

But Lord I had to go
My trail was laid too slow behind me
To face the call of fame
Or make a drunkard's name for me
Though now this other life
Has brought a different understanding
And from these endless days
Shall come a broader sympathy
And though I count the hours
To be alone's no injury...

My home...was a place near the sand
Cliffs...and a military band
Blew and air of normality

Wait—was I supposed to do some acid before I listened to this?  It's like listening to Yanni, the WHO and Seals and Croft all at the same time.  HELP!  OH, that guy  Mikecc9 was right—-there IS a didgeridoo on the next song!

Hey you know sometimes rock isn't just a Les Paul or Strat, a P-Bass, and some Ludwigs playing 3 chords in 4/4 time.
If I wanted to wind up my father this was the song that would do it faster than anything else. He thought that I only listened to it upset him, but I loved it 43 years ago and I love it now. Looks like lots of Radio Paradise listeners feel the same as my dad and I’d give them the same advice I gave him. If you don’t like it go into the other room till it's over.

With respect to King Crimson this is one of the worst songs I have ever heard. Didn't the producer have the guts to find  different singer?

I marvel at your polite restraint. Must now play "The Court of the Crimson King" to wash out my ears.

Respectfully disagree. John Wetton has a beautiful voice, but perhaps it helps to have grown up worshipping this deep and intense and beautiful period of KC.
I appreciate the challenge of this song, but it seems I'm not up for it. 2.

I can't believe I used to listen to this shite. I used to have shoulder-length hair and wear a beret and little round sunglasses, but that doesn't make that anything other than a disease. This musical recording is a disease.

So what are you now, shaved head & goatee?

How utterly predictable, "me too!", and cliche'. {#Razz}  Also looks pretty ugly on most men.

Could never stand the sound of Wetton's voice.
I find it ruinous.

Well, it's not as bad as Yoko's...but this guy just can't sing.

Very cool emoticon array, Otomi.

One could never accuse Robert Fripp of being "Easy Listening".  ; )

I find it interesting that most songs that have an average rating of 5 or 6 is because most people rate it around there. This tune is a 6 because it received lots of 1's and 10's. People either love or hate it...

It's another early 70's progressive rock band like Gentle Giant, Genesis, ELP, Tull, etc.. To your point there doesn't seem to be much in between.
I love this period of KC, culminating in the absolute masterpiece of RED.

Bill Bruford is my hero.

Very good song from an outstanding album.
Too many rock'n'roll people among the RP listeners ....
Nearly unbearable ... my least favorite song in the universe, other than any song featuring a didgeridoo ... (sp?) ... which I think I hear on the next song that's playing right now.

Arghhhh!

This is one of my fave Crimson albums, along with Starless & Bible Black and Red, although this track doesn't do much for me.
