The dawn is breaking
A light shining through
You're barely waking
And I'm tangled up in you
Yeah

I'm open, you're closed
Where I follow, you'll go
I worry I won't see your face
Light up again

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find, you and I collide

I'm quiet, you know
You make a first impression
I've found I'm scared to know
I'm always on your mind

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find, you and I collide

Don't stop here
I've lost my place
I'm close behind

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills your mind
You finally find, you and I collide

You finally find
You and I collide
You finally find
You and I collide

I'm with ya on that one
I first heard Howie Day live at Coachella in 2004 and picked up his CD. I liked this song so much with its bittersweet lyrics that I put it on a mixed CD for my new boyfriend. This was at least a year before it started getting airplay, here or anywhere else. Just because something becomes popular doesn't mean it's necessarily bad. It made me happy to hear this today.
I remember, I heard this song on my radio. I changed the station after about 15 seconds. I go to RP for odds and ends of the music world, not crap like this that is played all the time by everyone else.
not more than a 3!
It's easy for a radio station to play the popular music. It's also easy for a radio station to just play the obscure "good" music. It's not easy for a radio station to mix the two. I applaud Bill for playing the songs he wants, whether it's an obscure independent artist or a huge pop sensation.
A crime against ears.
Yay for the mellotron chorus

Oh, I'll complain. This is trite and its crap and and there is much better comercially driven music to listen to like Matchbox 20, Maroon 5, the Gorillaz, and so on and so forth.
"Complain"? Nobody has any business complaining about any music played on RP. You can listen or not listen, like a song or not like a song, but "complaining" is a bit much, as if you have a right to be indignant that something you don't like gets played here. Where you hear trite crap, others hear a pleasant well crafted pop tune. There's room for that. Everything doesn't have be music by guys with whiney off key voices and erratic jerkey beats and funny squeaky sound effects.

OK, this is too commerical to be played on RP.
Watch your language ... I do like this song. I am not sticking up for Mr. Day as much as the notion that by making this statement you rule out at least 10% of songs played on RP (probably an understatement). Coldplay ... Beatles ... Stones ... Dylan ... U2 .. just to name a few ... As I look at some of your highest rated songs, you do enjoy the commercially fruitful music of years past. Just because high school girls enjoy something doesn't mean you can't. Unless that is of course your approach to music in which case my arguement is moot and your approach is sad.

The claim that something is "too commercial" to be good is, at first glance, stupid. However, I believe it to be a shorthand for the idea that most things that become commerically acceptable and widely liked have a certain vanilla blandness, and are fairly forgettable. This is not true in general, but when someone says something is "too commercial" I think of them as saying "this is boring." And that is a fair criticism.
