If language were liquid
It would be rushing in
Instead here we are
In a silence more eloquent
Than any word could ever be

These words are too solid
They don't move fast enough
To catch the blur in the brain
That flies by and is gone
Gone
Gone
Gone

I'd like to meet you
In a timeless, placeless place
Somewhere out of context
And beyond all consequences

Let's go back to the building
(Words are too solid)
On Little West Twelfth
It is not far away
(They don't move fast enough)
And the river is there
And the sun and the spaces
Are all laying low
(To catch the blur in the brain)
And we'll sit in the silence
(That flies by and is)
That comes rushing in and is
Gone (Gone)

I won't use words again
They don't mean what I meant
They don't say what I said
They're just the crust of the meaning
With realms underneath
Never touched
Never stirred
Never even moved through

If language were liquid
It would be rushing in
Instead here we are
In a silence more eloquent
Than any word could ever be
And is gone
Gone
Gone
And is gone

Saw in a church off Sloane Square in London and it was everything I had hoped it would be after adoring her music for 20 years or more.
What happens in Vega does not stay in Vega.
annoying song.
.....so let me guess - he's gone?!!!!  Not her shining example for sure.  She sure does like to repeat herself in her music - not the best "signature" for a musician IMHO.
I love that she has one of the most natural voices and let's it just pour over the lyrics so smoothly.
I like Suzanne Vega because she sings the deep lyrics
I love early Suzanne (and newer Suzanne too)

Like the song, but yea, that is a difficult ending to listen too...

She's got a voice as smooth as honey....Suzanne Vega is high on my list. Thanks for not playing "luca"
We just saw her in Chico on Tuesday February 23rd.
Decent show.
All she had with her was a bass player and a guitarist.  You could tell the drums, keyboards and all that other stuff was missing.  There were some of her songs that had huge holes in them.  I'd give that show a 6.  Needed more instruments.  She probably on a budget.
Love Suzanne Vega, but this record was a pretty big disappointment to me after her amazing debut album. This song is just trying too hard without getting anywhere.

Yes, a refreshing aural-quencher.

I'm not sure SV has ever topped this album.  How many other artists are members of that club?

Yes this is a hypnotic piece.  Thanks, Bill & Rebecca for playing so much Suzanne Vega.  The station in Toronto during the 80's mostly played only "Luka" and a couple of other pieces.

love it...

Marry me, Miss Vega.
Just love Suzanne
This is really good.
Vaguely reminiscent of Paul Simon's Canticle.
Wow, polarizing! I'm in the like-it camp.
This Vega song is mysteriously beautiful. Thanks for playing it Bill..

On of the only english-language singers whose words I can catch. :) I'd suggest adding Tom's Dinner (original, a capella version) to RP's playlist.
she does have excellent diction. and i always enjoy Tom's Diner!

I agree. And she only needs a few notes (the first bar) to be recognized as Vega. Excellent.

You know, she has her detractors, many of them quite vocal here on RP, and there is some reason for all of it -- talk-singing, repetition, etc -- but, still, she has a unique way of getting some pretty heavy concepts through. And a lot of her stuff is simply haunting. It stays with you. I say that makes her an artist with whom one has to reckon.
Beautifully said. Bravo!

"I'd like to meet you, in a timeless, placeless place. Somewhere out of context, and beyond all consequences." Sounds like a cool place to be. :)
