We were above
You were standing underneath us
We were not yet lovers
Dragons were smoked
Bumblebees were stinging us
I was soon to be crazy
Eat drink and be merry
For tomorrow we die
Eat drink and be merry
For tomorrow we die
Cause we're tripping Billies

We're wearing nothing
Nothing but our shadows
Shadows falling down on
The beach sand
Remembering once, out on
The beaches
We wore pineapple grass bracelets

So why would you care
To get out of this place
You and me and all our friends
Such a happy human race
We're tripping Billies

We are all sitting
Legs crossed around a fire
My yellow flame she dances
Tequila drinking, oh,
Our minds will wander
To wondrous places

So why would you care
To get out of this place
You and me and all our friends
Such a happy human race
Eat drink and be merry
For tomorrow we die
Eat drink and be merry
For tomorrow we die

I disagree with you. +8.

Maybe based partly on nostalgia, but I also like it.
This song an average 4.9? Absurd!
Great artists.  Saw him in Roanoke Virginia Victory Stadium about 1999.  Amazing musicians.  8

That goes double for live versions of dumb overplayed songs. {#Stop}{#Shhh}

Is that just a list of unrelated items or the chapter headings from my autobiography?

Sweet!... apparently, good things come must in fours.

The RP masses seem to agree with your assessment of EC and DMB, and weren't too thrilled about their "reward" of Frazey Ford and Of Monsters and Men; that 4-strong stretch averaged 5.875, and could be in the record books as lowest RP foursome.  Personally, disturbed that EC is in that group.

Saw DMB at the Concert for Tibet in Washington. The highlight was when lightning struck inside RFK Stadium, injuring a few people.

Fortunately no one was killed, but I was nearly beaten to death when I mockingly imitated Dave's nasal twang for my girlfriend inside the crowded RFK Metro station.

Try it sometime. It's easy.

News item: "A thunderstorm forced an early end to yesterday's Freedom for Tibet concert at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington after 11 people were struck by lightning, four of whom were rushed to D.C. General. One of the four people hospitalized — Lysa Selfon, a third-year GW law student — was listed in critical condition.  John Shaw, a trauma paramedic, and Jamshed Zuberi, a surgical resident, were sitting near Selfon when the lightning struck her. The pair started CPR immediately and were able to prevent brain damage that could have resulted from the accident.  Selfon suffered burns and internal damage from the strike and spent nearly 2 months in the hospital.  Surgery was required to repair damage to her face resulting from the strike."

I'm guessing Lysa Selfon didn't consider the lighting strike the "highlight" of the show.  Empathy... try it sometime.  It's easy.

Surely, somewhere, there is a foundation dedicated to alleviating the plight of the sarcasm deficient.

same trio again
hopefully something good is coming

Once you get in the habit of dumping crap on people . . .
sucko barfo Dave-o
Wow! Rock concert in the middle of nowhere.
A note to DMB: if you're going to sing as poorly as Bob Dylan does, your lyrics should be good enough to make up for it.
James McMurty, Costello and DMB....this means we are due something good.

No love for bad-ass fiddle player, Boyd Tinsley?
Where did this come from? That whiny sax, those odd honking vocal sounds?

This is why I love RP.  I pretty much ignored Dave Matthews like, always.  With RP, I'm getting exposed to them in little doses.  It's been nice to hear them on here.  As opposed to, say, the preceding artist (U2) and any selection of theirs.  And the current over-dosing that's been going on.
there are DM songs that I really like and his drummer is crazy-good....but most of his songs sound alike to me.

He seems to sing through his nose.  Do you suppose he smells through his mouth?

So you're saying you are in Goa and it is 1973...?
Saw them live with Carlos Santana at a free concert in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco many years ago.

I am totally blown away by how many people rate this a 1. I've never seen a song so hated. Interesting.

How many years now has Dave Matthews been re-writing the same song: 10? 20?, feels like 30.

Yuk, yuk... duh.  It feels like you haven't really been paying attention to his music but, rather, have been perpetuating a stereotype.

Carter Beauford is tearing it up on this track as he ALWAYS does in ANY venue.
Have John Tesh and Dave Matthews ever been seen in the same place at the same time? I'm just wondering...do you think...nah...but then, that racket...nah...

DMB live at the new Home Depot Center 7/26/03. Can't wait! (Haven't seen them since 1995.) Also, it will be my four year old son's first big concert. (He chose this as a birthday gift over Disneyland and Legoland. But it makes sense in that has been playing drums since he turned 1, and would rather watch Carter Beauford instructional videos instead of cartoons...)

Cool story: what an amazing son you have!

I equate these guys to an amalgam of original ideas/compositions from other musicians. technically, dm band is superb. They are great concert musicians. On the level of original composition they deserve a #2 or #3. But, originality is not necessary what makes a group economically successful or a crowd pleaser. Davie is $rich$. does anyone remember \"the best of the classics\" tapes that came out in the 1980\'s? \"the best of the classics\" = crowd pleasing amalgam.
