This is no great illusion
When I'm with you I'm looking for a ghost
Or invisible reasons
To fall out of love and run screaming from our home

Because we live in a house of mirrors
We see our fears and everything
Our songs, faces, and second hand clothes
But more and more we're suffering
Not nobody, not a thousand beers
Will keep us from feeling so all alone

But you are what you love
And not what loves you back
That's why I'm here on your doorstep
Pleading for you to take me back

The phone is a fine invention
It allows me to talk endlessly to you
About nothing disguising my intentions
Which I'm afraid, my friend, are wildly untrue

It's a sleight of hand, a white soul band
The heart attacks I'm convinced I have
Every morning upon waking
To you I'm a symbol or a monument
Your rite of passage to fulfillment
But I'm not yours for the taking

But you are what you love
And not what loves you back
So I guess that's why you keep calling me back

I'm fraudulent, a thief at best
A coward who paints a bullshit canvas
Things that will never happen to me
But at arms length, it's Tim who said
I'm good at it, I've mastered it
Avoiding, avoiding everything

But you are what you love, Tim
And not what loves you back
And I'm in love with illusions
So saw me in half
I'm in love with tricks
So pull another rabbit out your hat

The Shining ~ corridor of horror ! It’s an ok track, but lacks depth and skilled musicianship. Certainly not a Mellow track.

I guess you could say she has back's back ?!  ;)

Was wondering if I was the only one seeing them too!

All three could certainly chase me off of that bed's edge!
Only the music is less sexy!

HA! I thought this said JERRY LEWIS! The first phrase to come to mind was... la, la, la...nice lady!

I have the same reaction, I was singing along to Charging Sky in the car this morning on my way to work in the pouring rain.

Holy CARP! That was really amazing. Her command of tone is stunning. Made all the more so by the no-budget production of the clip. Wonderful!

Great lyrics - love her hair too....

Thank Gawd he put on something good to wash the David Byrne/TH out of my ears..
worst song of a great album

and those are the twin girls from The Shining....all grown up.
Any gal that can work the phrase "a thousand beers" into a song is OK by me

Personally, I think it's a brilliant cover and a good tune as well.  I'm not sure what either of you find "terrible" about it.

Love this song and the album {#Good-vibes}

A harmless if forgettable 5. Good filler between the great stuff.
Thank you for playing this. Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins are so great live!

Um, well, LaoZi says the good man does not argue, so....
Bumped it to a "9"!
The production is brilliant - so naive, innocent, and yet perfectly so. A band with the awareness of a cagey, sarcastic band, but the sincerety of an innocent folk singer.
great song. great performers. great music. all you negative nellies are blopops.
I'm really digging Jenny and the Twins. Yes they are really twins; Jenny and the Twins were on Letterman a few months back. Yes, the album cover is really freakin' creepy. The Watson Twins appeared equally creepy on Dave's show; it's obviously their schtick. Or they're just really creepy; it happens. Jenny reminds me a bit of Neko Case, another fave. And Hank Dogs, who give me chills (both the good AND the creepy kind!) I'm surprised at the negativity towards this. When I first heard it I assumed RP folks would be really into it. Oh well, different strokes. I watched the video on her website. LOVE IT! The rapidly-fading smiles is the best part; they KNOW they're creepy! The original Hee-Haw is actually really funny to watch now; they KNEW it was totally cheesy, and ran with it. It's like 'Dumb and Dumber' for C&W fans. Say what you will about 'that' kind of music; Roy could freakin' PLAY. And Buck (R.I.P.) created a new kind of country sound. Yeah, it ain't everyone's cup o' java, but that's why we listen to RP; to hear stuff outside the over-produced, over-censored, market-researched, Arbitron-chasing, all-commercial-all-the-time Broadcast Radio. Clear Channel is in league with the devil; their headquarters are literally a stone's throw from where I'm sitting. So a tactical strike is out of the question... c.

Well, you know, for the sake of showmanship and an album cover, they may just make an exception. -mt-

Did you get a T-Shirt from her too?
Nice song, terrible album cover.
Like one of the better Annette Funicello songs.
I have no idea why, but I really like everything I hear from her. Not a big fan of this type of music, or even a fan of her voice; there is just this something about all the songs that gets me.
This one always reminds me of the quote from the movie Adaptation: "You are what you love, not what loves you." I also like it because it has a retro sound to it, like when Patty Duke would do a song on her show in the 60's. Also, are those real twins or trick photography? Most twins I know get sick of wearing the same clothes as their twin by about the age of eight.

I'll second that one... but in a hetero kind of way. EDIT: "not that there's anything wrong with that." *studio audience laughter* EDIT #2: wait, she's not of the other persuasion is she? that would be a serious buzz kill.

Ok. I have heard enough from this album...I am gonna have to buy it!. Thanks RP. Just wished you'd played it earlier so I would have known enough to catch their show when they were in town.
