Her name is actually spelled with an umlaut: Anaïs Mitchell.

She has been doing a wide variety of music — I really like her 2010 "Hadestown" and I will be interested to hear 2012 "Young Man In America".

Neil
i like it.
I like this. And her voice is interesting. And she has a cool name.
She's lending her song to Buzzflash.com https://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/05/02/con05052.html
I've met Anais, and seen her perform on several occasions... This track doesn't do justice to how amazing she is live. I was THRILLED to see her show up here on Radio Paradise. WooHoo! More Kerrverts on Radio Paradise!!!!!
I like her :) Reminds me of that Aussie... Kasey Chambers. I picked up the CD. Nice sound.
Jeez, tough crowd 8-< I like the sound and lyrics...
I think they've misspelled her name. Shouldn't there be a "u" in her first name?
(EDIT: March 2012)
Okay. I didn't like her voice back when I wrote this in ...2005. I think either her voice has mellowed or I have; at any rate, I just watched an NPR clip of her performing Tam Lin and came here to see what else there might be at RP by her. I don't usually go for the "little girly" type voice that irritated me in THIS song; but her recent work on the Child ballads is more palatable to my ears.

This is downright annoying.
i really like this. it sounds to me like an updated un-countrified hazel dickens, and i really like hazel dickens. but the song itself, as well, is very strong. also, anyone named anais has my vote. maybe i'll change my name ...

Did anyone else nearly jump out of their seat when she started singing? Something about the tone of her voice just clashes with the music.
I did. I agree it's been an unusual sound for the first seconds. But isn't it a little too easy just to shout and nag before listening at least twice? I appreciate RP surprising me like this. The song is good. The voice is interesting. And somehow everything fits together - I can make it fit in my head :)
ACK! Did anyone else nearly jump out of their seat when she started singing? Something about the tone of her voice just clashes with the music.
No, thanks.
FIRST! At first her voice was annoying...now I've grown used to it after a minute and it's a 4.
